Not really. A reporter's job is to take down - the record

The typist should be editing what a CR has taken down and providing those words that weren't able to be captured. Now, you keep on with feeling you're superior to everyone else because you can do it all without having notes, but in essence you're just affirming that there are reporters out there not doing their jobs. If the reporters are not creating a word-for-word transcription at a trial, deposition, administrative hearing, or other legal proceeding, then that's not the definition of a court reporter.
