I hope the sting of remembering how you spoke to others who are in that boat now is not so painful that you become discouraged or hardened. I hope you can forgive yourself. I hope you are offered the compassion you were unable to offer others. I hope you are humbled, but not humiliated. I hope it is a gentle lesson learned and that you are then able to see that you are just as flawed and vulnerable as everyone else in the world. When we know that, we are better able to treat people respectfully and with some kindness. Pride is a harsh teacher.
