You stayed in a dying field for too long, and now you're too old to get into something else.
That is nobody's fault but yours.
We KNEW these changes in MT were coming down the pike 15 years ago. Too bad you didn't heed the warnings. Instead, you stuck your head in the sand and/or were afraid to make a move. You justified your inaction by saying, "I have bills to pay!"
Well, guess what?! You STILL have bills to pay, only now -- because of the changed milieu and your age -- you have FEWER options.
In short, you've missed the boat of opportunity. The same thing happens in almost every aspect of life -- investments, relationships, etc. Timing is everything. The ship has sailed without you.
