I used to do scoping before becoming an MT. I am not sure how scoping is now, but when I used to scope back in the late '90s, early 2000s, you had to purchase a scopist key in order read the steno on your computer. At that time, the key was over $1,000. If y0ou scope for people who use two different programs, say Case Catalyst and TurboCat, you needed a key for both programs. Most court reporters just send you the audio file to type into a template set up for depositions/court hearings. You can set up a template on your computer for depositions/trials. Hope this helps.
