The author is guessing about who tried to purchase M*Modal. Did you not comprehend the article?
a fact that a company made a higher offer - anon

Yes I read it ALL the way through, did you? What other possible company could put up that kind of capital (it was a higher deal than the one they accepted) AND just bought out a competitor in March, which was the reason the offer was declined? Do you think there are that many companies out there with that kind of ability to offer that much money who ALSO just happened to buy out a competitor in March? (when Nuance purchased Transcend).
It didn't happen and so it has no bearing on us at all, I just posted because it was interesting. I think there will be a huge battle between these 2 and I wouldn't be surprised down the road if just 1 is left.

Your title said Nuance trying to buy M*Modal. This was just assumed. Doesn't matter if you THINK it is Nuance, facts are facts. The fact is we don't know who it was. Do you believe all things without knowing the facts? Yes it is interesting, but your title should have been worded differently. Can't just go around stirring the pot, spreading rumors and causing unease.
Ummmm - Lay off.

WRONG! If one looks back at the history of alleged wrongdoings and including the Dept of Justice with regards to this company on acquiring other companies raises suspicion. Let google be your friend.

I would pray Nuance was the one who comes out on top. I don't enjoy the low pay and QA nonsense at Nuance but based on my past MQ experience and reading both boards on here, Nuance is the lesser of the 2 evils.
When clients no longer have a choice of MTSO's, - inhouse MT may once again thrive. nm

The administration of the hospital make those decisions and they got rid of in-house MTs because they are expensive. I highly doubt they will go back to in-house and if they do, count on wages being signficantly lower than they were.
I am afraid this industry is forever changed and not for the better.
That's exactly what I thought - who else would be - big enough and have the capital but Nuance?

I get the feeling that someday there is only going to be ONE transcription service in the entire country. One big, BLOATED, EVIL, DYSFUNCTIONAL MTSO.
Makes the hair stand up on my neck.

Good point. It's from a blog. On my blog, I'm the queen of EVERYTHING. The point is, that article is one person's opinion. Bloggers often don't have supporting evidence, so take anything you read on a blog with several large grains of salt.

Just research and dig deeper into the aquisition practices of Nuance and there are articles on the web with regards to their aquisition of Philips involving the DOJ and other companies dealings with them. Seems to me after reading the articles that there DEFINATELY IMO is a suspect pattern here!
I was wondering about the Nuance thing... - jmt

I'm an ex Medquist employee and now working happily away from MTSOs completely and in with a great group of docs TOTALLY out of transcription. M-Modal does our private patients dictations for the docs. Lately the name Nuance has been floating around the office and when I try to get information about why I keep hearing Nuance, I don't really get an answer. I was looking on here to see if I could get any info and saw this thread. Could be something to it, maybe.
Business Week article documenting above...not just a blog - anon

It is really a moot point because M*Modal refused, but it is interesting IMO to see these 2 companies trying to buy out everything smaller. Maybe you don't believe Business Week either, but it is not just a blog. It names only "Party A" but in reality there is only 1 out of million companies that would fit the description of what this describes that could afford to come up with 1+ billion dollars AND also had just purchased a rival to M*Modal in March. This is the link to the Business Week article:
Although this article dates back to March, I found it interesting. Had no idea that Nuance and MQ (M*Modal) only had 20% of the transcription business when this was written in March, 2012.

I have been saying all along to my family only (who sadly knows this crap), that the timing of this Coder Contest was so 'clever.' Yes, it exists, but, the timing, 1st the bankruptcy "rumor", and then the CEO insulting explanation, and then we all did get distracted with the "candy", the coding thing. This board ground to a halt as far as BK discussion, which was intelligent, to nothing but coding. Then the Chap 11 news breaks, followed by a candy trail of notices on who is ...
I thought they were 2 different services. Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows. All the small companies have been merged I guess. I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR. Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

Take a minute to read this interesting article from M-Modal themselves, and what they have to say about compensation for VR. It may surprise you! For me personally, it validates what I have been feeling as I struggle to get back to my former paycheck with straight typing.

I was reading an email about current trends in the industry and it talked about Nuance's acquisition of Transcend and how Nuance had acquired 43 companies since being in business, gaining some of those acquisitions by bullying competitors with lawsuits and then buying them out. Then I stumbled across this article on Bloomberg Businessweek. It's a little dated (May 2011) but quite interesting, especially the quote from the Dave Grannan, CEO of Vlingo: "Competing with Nuance is like havi ...
Interesting article from WSJ about possible news of Nuance selling off parts of its holdings: (it is all conjecture at this point, but interesting that Goldman is often called in to make major changes, and sometimes it involves sale of parts or all of the company)

My opinion, having been in the industry for over 30 years and after reading a few posts on this subject below.
For years a good deal of MTSO's including Webmedx had in place bonus or incentive plans based on production ONLY. Such a plan most likely helped Webmedx win "employer of the year" for years. Employees would go the extra mile even working through breaks to achieve higher line counts while at the same time the newer employees could look forward to gaining more experience and e ...

I currently work for Assistmed, but have a phone interview with Nuance and M*Modal later this week. I have read all the reviews about both companies and still not sure which is better. Anyone have any experience with either of the two or any input on which company is better? ...
I wonder if M-modal is trying desperately to keep their heads above water so as not to be bought out by Nuance. I just can't fathom all these layoffs. I'm really truly sorry. How heavy your hearts must be right now. It's just incomprehensible that they would do this to all of you. ...
I just accepted an offer from Nuance. I know, I know. I used to work for M-Modal when it was Medquist three years ago. I loved the DocQScribe platform. Has anyone gone from working for M-Modal to Nuance? Was there any change in the way lines were counted? How do you compare working on Nuance's platform versus that of M-Modal? ...
I've learned a lot from the M*Modal side, but now if you don't mind I would like to ask questions about Nuance.
1. Do they hire part-time, and if yes what might a schedule consist of?
2. What are the line requirements?
3. Weekend work required?
4. What shifts are offered, do they have 1st/2nd/3rd?
And, just about anything that is on your mind. TIA! ...
I'm in shock about all the layoffs at M*Modal this morning! I'm sure everyone else is too. I'm scared/worried the same thing might happen to Nuance now. I see job postings all the time for both companies. It's crazy how they hire all these people and then layoff a bunch of people. I'm curious to know how many people in total got laid off. Does anyone else see this coming at Nuance? ...
I've reached the point where I'll work for almost any company, even M-Modal or Nuance, if it means I can get a steady paycheck. My current company is going down the tubes fast. I've hung in here as long as I possibly can, but I think it's an exercise in futility.
Does anyone at M-Modal or Nuance have any positive experiences, or is it really as bad as all the posts make it sound? Surely there must be "something" good, or they wouldn't have so man ...
you pulled up a blank Word document while you were in Fluency and just typed nonsense letters while the voice file was running? Or while it is not running? This brings a whole other deminsion to transcription. How can we mess with their numbers like they messed with ours? ...
