I currently work for Assistmed, but have a phone interview with Nuance and M*Modal later this week.  I have read all the reviews about both companies and still not sure which is better.  Anyone have any experience with either of the two or any input on which company is better?

I was on mandatory OT for months and months and months. Then, hurricane Sandi it, and ZAP... NOTHING. Barely can get in my 20 hours a week.

Well that helped eliminate one of the choices. I am having that problem where I'm at now.

There isn't a ton of work at Nuance either and QA is a huge nightmare at Nuance. - anon

From all I have read and heard, MModal wins by a hair.

Nuance QA is the worst I have ever encountered and I have been an MT for 17 years and have worked in QA myself.

Also, I have been moved to 8 different accounts this year at Nuance only to run out of work on a daily basis.

Neither. Nuance/Transcend just gave a Christmas present of 25% pay cut. - just me too

Even if I get the highest level of their bonus I still take a significant pay cut with their new compensation plan. I'm currently looking for a second job now.

DON'T GO TO NUANCE - we just got a pay cut, and for their so-called "incentive" we have to work twice as much as we are now. They also raised their insurance rates. I'm looking elsewhere.

I worked for Nuance for 2 years. The account I was on, my super would send a thousand 10-paged emails every day, you don't get paid to read them, you have to sign off on your reports, which takes about 15 minutes a day, for which you also don't get paid for. By the time you get done doing the things you don't get paid for, you are making less than minimum wage. Also, when something goes wrong, your super has no idea how to fix anything, ignores your emails for days on end, never notices when you work extra, but is the first to chew your ass the second your five minutes late. I once got yelled at for taking a 10 minute break two hours after clocking in during an 8-hour shift. She noticed I was off line for 10 minutes, harassed me about it, I told her I was taking a shower. She continued to harass me and accuse me of lying, saying nobody can take a shower in 10 minutes. Why are my showering habits her concern and why is what I do on my allowed scheduled break any of her concern? IMO, it's a horrible place to work.Oh yeah,let's not forget, a year and a half after I started working there, she called me on a Sunday to see why I was an hour late for work. I told her it was an hour before my schedule and I had the same schedule the entire time I worked there. After arguing for literally WEEKS about this, we finally came to the conclusion that in the beginning I was supposed to fill out my schedule in eastern time, even though I can central. So, I said, well, if that's the case, I've been an hour late for work every day since I started here and worked an hour later. She says, "I guess so." How come it took her A YEAR AND A HALF to notice this? Especially since we are required to put our hours in our signature line on our email. Just, wow!! So, that's my rant on Nuance. A good friend of mine also worked at Nuance the same time as me and had the same issues, different account and different supervisor. She has been at M-Modal now for about 6 months and says it's the same thing. Horse a piece I guess if you choose to work for a big company. They all treat us like crap, IMO.

Yours sounds a lot like mine. I would wake up to numerous emails so I would read them and sometimes things happen like windows needs to reboot for updates, etc and boy if you are late and not actually typing in a report at start time you can get chewed out. I was even chewed out for communicating with Payroll during my work time as I should take care of other business in my own time...What? My check due to bank change was being mailed and always usually got here early and it was two days late. I am sorry that I am a single mom and live pay check to paycheck so I needed to know where my check was and anywhere you would work discussing that with payroll would not require you to clock out and yes if you are in a report too long because you suddenly had to go to the bathroom that might get you too. Nevermind that you worked extra two nights that week and no approved OT so you made sure you did not get over 40 hours on your time but you should also be sure to use your own time to read company emails or communicate with company departments. Also if you arrange to be off 30 minutes early for your child and agree to work 30 minutes early so you still get in your eight hours be sure to get in your production as that is all they worry about. It is not about working the hours required it is about getting that minimum report count as I was on radiology where every report is not created equal depending on the length but you still were required to do so many each our and shift. I was with Transcend but all of this started after Nuance took us over and they reorganized management so there you go. Now my account has been running behind ever since I have been gone. I questioned them and put a target on my back so there you go!

If you have no other choice, then do what you need to do. I've worked for one of them and never again. There is a reason why they are continually hiring. If nothing else, they are sucking up all the little companies and becoming king of the world.

Don't even for one second give either one of these companies the benefit of the doubt or let them hire you, only to make empty promises and then treat you like garbage, humilate you, provide no work, so you are forced to take PTO time or make it up (IF work is available), horrible supervisors, who are dictators and most of the work is VR and ESLs from outer space! When they call you, tell them exactly what you have read on this board and that you decline any offer they could possibly offer you and HANG UP! They don't care anyway! You are nothing to them, just like all of their other employees, so don't think for one second you are. That is the cold hard facts!

i always stayed away from employee status, left Medquist when they changed their policy and were forcing IC's to be employees. The reason we all went to MT school in the first place was to have flexibility with our kids and work from home. I think this has to catch up with them, they will lose all good people. MM keeps emailing me to come work for them, i am glad i read these posts, now i know not to even think about it ever!

our kids. When I chose to do this, I wasn't even married and had no kids. This was a real profession at one time. I worked in hospitals for many years, and then for small companies in an office after I had my children. Just like regular folks :}

I worked in-house for years and was basically forced to do it from home because of the out sourcing trend. We got paid better and had better benefits working in-house.

It was a "real" job with a "real" schedule. I personally don't get why people get all twisted about having to have a schedule. It is a business with strict turnaround times.

My complaint is about the steady decline in pay and the total lack of respect the MTSOs have for the MT now.

I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

I'm in shock about all the layoffs at M*Modal this morning!  I'm sure everyone else is too.  I'm scared/worried the same thing might happen to Nuance now.  I see job postings all the time for both companies.  It's crazy how they hire all these people and then layoff a bunch of people.  I'm curious to know how many people in total got laid off.  Does anyone else see this coming at Nuance?  ...

I've reached the point where I'll work for almost any company, even M-Modal or Nuance, if it means I can get a steady paycheck.  My current company is going down the tubes fast.  I've hung in here as long as I possibly can, but I think it's an exercise in futility.  Does anyone at M-Modal or Nuance have any positive experiences, or is it really as bad as all the posts make it sound?  Surely there must be "something" good, or they wouldn't have so man ...

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

I have another question.  When one does a draft in VR, does MT get paid for all lines in the draft or would an MT get paid if it has to be edited.  I will be trying to learn this in the next few weeks and I am scared to death I will not catch on and then I might be without a job.   I have a feeling I might not get paid for the whole draft report.  Then again it may depend on the company.  Any opinions please.   Thanks  ...
