Well after being put on  100% QA for 5 days, not passing an audit at 97.95% I was terminated today.  This company is unbelievable.  They not only knock you down, play with your mind daily, they set me up to fail,   I told them about this doctor that I had critical erros on, that she was impossible to do, that I had sent all the work they sent me for her to QA after I did my best to try and get it done.  But as I said I must of had 10 of her reports in a row, and she was just impossible for me to do.  I wrote my CCM an e-mail documenting all the job numbers that I sent to QA, and then they perform an audit on those exact job numbers, give me the critical errors, which was no surprise to me and said it was my fault, I am credited with the errors, not QA.  By the way this was after I passed a regular audit at 99.19% but there were a few descrepancies they did not like and that is when I was audited which included these jobs that I complained about and every critical error they found was by this dictator.  Then they did what they call a comprehensive audit from January and I scored 98.39% and they put me on the 100%, at reduced pay.  The whole  idea is that I passed the first audit and they just kepy auditing me until they were able to make me fail.   I am so angry right now.  I just talked to my brother who has a best friend who is a lawyer and if they do not pay me my unemployment, I am going after them for so much more.  Very angry and upset right now.

You should certainly be eligible for unemployment. Write everything down in chronological order so you are prepared for your interview. Take some deep breaths and enjoy being out from under the MQ (a rose by any other name...)thumb. Good luck!

Thank you all. I am just so angry at how I was treated. They tried to destroy my confidence, but if anything they made me realize even more that I am a good transcriptionist. I have been in this field for the past 18 years and that says something. I am embarrassed to be terminated. I have never been terminated from a job, and that did bother me. I maybe said 2 words during the whole talk, but I was fuming. I just know that there is something better out there for me, because this job has been hell for the past year and a half and for my mental well being this is not a bad thing.

I too have some sooo close to being terminated, actually being on the phone with HR and CCM as CCM read her "corporate" speak about my not making line counts in conjunction, as luck would have it, not passing an audit..i.e. 98.75%.. anyway somehow talked my way out of being fired, but continually feel like any minute I will be terminated and yes..I am audited all the time.. But here is the thing..I am so unhappy here..so unhappy with what ths profession has become, I do the bare minumum, make no money and I know the Universe is telling me GET OUT. I know it is scary..I know it sucks..but it has got to be better than this!!

For now..yes. I am still hanging on, but I have an exciting prospect for job I love doing and just need a nice segue into it.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I am so sorry this is happening, but do as others have told you, take a deeeeep breath, GET your unemployment and take your vast medical knowledge and see what else you can do with it.

Just my experience, but w/in a month or so of being bought by that thorny rose, I suddenly had no work, no layoff, no termination, forced to use my PTO or take no pay. I was a top tier, and I'm fairly sure that is why as I hadn't ever missed the quality mark. At least you might be able to get UE while you find another job and some sanity.

That said, were you leaving blanks for QA and/or highlighting areas you questioned or were you typing what you thought you heard? Also, were there no samples/OLC help for this doc? Just kinda playing devil's advocate, I guess, but I think (at least I was) being out from under their BS regime.

I was told to try and type, leave blanks and sent to QA with a note that I was not confident in what I had typed and the work should be checked thoroughly because she was such a bad dictator.

I'm sorry to hear that yet another person at this company has been thrown to the wolves. Having once nearly been fired by MQ for quality myself (quit before they could), I know a little of how angry you must feel right now. MQ/MModal has made it very clear over the past decade that we are dirt clods sticking to their customers' shoes that need to be scraped off. It's infuriating.

When I hear on the news that the fire department responded to a fire, but the building burned to the ground, my first assumption isn't "I guess they're lazy and incompetent." I assume that a professional is doing their job to the best of their ability until proven otherwise. MModal however assumes that doctors, being perfect in all ways, cannot make mistakes. Only the MTs could possibly be at fault.

Probably the biggest stress I have now is worrying about whether I'll get canned in the next couple months for quality because there are several doctors I can't understand who are fairly prolific dictators. When I had these same dictators and trouble accounts at my old company, I didn't worry. We all knew they were terrible. You just tried your best and everybody understood garbage in, garbage out. There's only so much an individual can do about it. Besides, if they care so much about their records, they could open their mouths, learn English or find a job where you can be hopelessly ignorant and human lives won't be on the line. Although a couple of these guys might get someone killed working at McDonald's. But now that these accounts belong to MM, it's 99% accuracy with no exceptions. So if I'm unlucky enough to get a ton of bad reports in a row (the chances of which are increased by the fact that when the bad ones come up, suddenly no one else is on my accounts but me) my quality will drift further and further down.

Essentially, a certain number of MT losses are taken every month, not because their skill declined, but because MModal, too large to see us and too inhuman to care, sends us in as cannonfodder against dictators that only a select few, if anyone, can understand. It's simply a lack of understanding that so many have been fired. Completely avoidable. Especially since sometimes a different set of ears are all that's needed. There are a couple doctors I can't understand in the least, but another MT I know will get it first time out and vice versa. There was one guy everybody hated and I understood him perfectly.

It would be nice if for once in the life of this corporation they could stand up for us, can this "the customer is always right" routine and tell the worst dictators that until they straighten out their act, they will be charged more and get however many blanks we feel are necessary to avoid compromising the report by making educated guesses to avoid getting our pay docked or being fired. Plus, remind them that if there is ever a malpractice suit and their records are in such a poor state, they could be in serious trouble.

I hope everything works out for the best and that you're lucky enough to get a job a hundred times better than this one. It couldn't be much worse...

I feel so very sorry for you! When I worked for Transcend the did this to many transcriptionists, those who had gotten very high scores, and all of a sudden they started to fail QA. When a company does this they are setting up an MT to be fired. I think you and your brother should talk to a lawyer. I hate to say this, but oftentimes if you get someone in QA who has a chip on their shoulder it can be very tough to make your score, but not to even give you a break with this dictator is absolutely unjust. All of the best to you...you will find a much better company to work for.

I have been in the process of getting out this business ever since being bought by MQ, and I do have a few offers (not MT) but confused as I have not seen too many negatives changes YET...What you described happened to you is exactly what I know is going to happen to me. I believe you absolutely can collect SUI, not a doubt actually. Just show them this post. MModal's First Time Right is setting us all up to fail and lowering the quality of work as we are pretty much forced to guess or get paid less. Instead of First Time Right, it should be Guess or Get Paid Less. You are bounced from acct to account with different rules, you are penalized for leaving blanks regardless of why you are leaving a blank, yet you have to meet a 99% score on audits...it's impossible and frustrating to say the least. I keep track and a good 99% and sometimes 100% of my QA submissions are doctors' errors or descrepancies or auditory issues, or even due to client profile rules for some odd thing or another. File for SUI immediately and hopefully a new door will open soon, a company who will appreciate all your skills and talents and not knock you down on a daily basis. I will pray for you tonight, but my gut sure is telling me you are so much better off than a lot of us right now! Good luck to you.

doc that is so difficult we were told to just do the best you can and send to QA. Now that we are MQ/Mmodal, that is not so simple, NOW IS IT??? I take pride in my work and I also want to respect and follow the rules of my employer but in this case it is very stressful, and Yes I do feel that this will eventually happen, but you know, this is not about me now is it. Believe me, I'm not a pessimist and definitely not a debbie-downer, but since being bought by this company and the micromanaging, all of which I have yet to see, I know is coming and is distressing and this poor MT who got canned for having a string of reports from 1 bad dictator, that is just not professional on the company's part. Yes, and you tell the unemployment people just what you told us. I would like to add that they should have given you the difficult doctor in small doses. They did that for me when I first started and they never said a word to me about anything because they have common sense and enough decency to to understand who the difficult doctors are.

This is a terrific point to make and here is what I would tell your lawyer about being fired: The scoring system is terribly unfair and dishonest. It is NOT 99% correct. How could it be? If you make 1 error on a 50 line document or 100 or 150 line document -- they call it 99%. We produce work way over 99% correct -- only in this insane industry do they rip us off constantly by giving us unintelligible dictators and demanding 99% (which is NOT actually 99%, it is their way of saying - if you make ANY mistake no matter how long the document is, we will say it is 99% correct -- with no particular rhyme or reason how they get to their imaginary 99%. it is so wrong. In any other industry if I produce 99% work that means that out of every 100 choices or widgets I make (keystrokes in this case) only ONE can be a reject. Every industry has standard tolerances for error -- but the MT industry's standards are grossly unfair and change with every employer. The policy of 99% is a farce and if every MT thought about it for a second - no MT would be required to maintain an imaginary 99% accuracy. As far as your situation, it is the DICTATOR's problem if no one can understand him/her NOT the transcriptionist's problem. I am sorry to be long-winded but this particular policy of the MTSO's makes me wretched. 99% accuracy means out of 100 choices you make (type of report, name of patient, MR number, etc. included) and each keystroke included -- THAT should be 99% NOT if you make one error of any kind a full 1% is subtracted. We have been victims because of our collective non-wave-making personalities and where has it got us? It got our jobs sent to India and our pay reduced until our children are eating the putty out of the window sills for candy. Sickening. Get a lawyer and sue them. Tell your lawyer what I am telling you. Draw your unemployment to make a point -- they should not be allowed to get away with all the stuff they do -- they get away with it in India and it is slowly encroaching upon the US MT's work habits and QA. QA USED to be based on how many LINES you typed, not per report. It is the luck of the draw..you get 5 short reports, chances are you will pass..but get that longwinded, gum smacking..uh.uh.uh.uh.uh dictator and chances are YOU will miss a number of 0.25 bullcrap The's and As (actually had a QA person tell me..leaving out an "a" changes the "integrity" of the sentence...uh...WHAT???). So blatantly unfair....COMPLETELY set to fail. There is no way that MTs are not audited are maintaining 99% all the time. NO WAY!! It is IMPOSSIBLE to do and maintain line count..IMPOSSIBLE

Dear Terminated, I left this evil company 08/2011 by choice. After the pay cuts and all the other changes I could read the writing on the wall. I had gone to PT to work more hours at another PT job, they offered me full time, and I was actually agonizing over what to do because I still loved the actual work....they day before I had to give my now full time employer an answer my account of 10 years "went away." Well I figured - here's your sign. You WILL come out the other side better and stronger. You need to sit down and put together a plan - NOW! File for UE, you have nothing to lose by trying.

I was so shocked to get my termination effective immediately and I did hear human resources would send me a letter but do you know what equipment needs to be returned. Well, it looks like Nuance is starting to get what they want....giving out walking papers because of their "patient safety" bullshit.  I was fired today because of their new metrics scheme and the QA pend percentage being above the minimum when 99.9% of my pends were MANDATORY pends, and because of crappy audio, VR that had to be deleted and started from scratch and dictators that don't know how to key in the right patient info and crappy dictators in general and me painstakingly suffe ...

Quit job to take guaranteed hourly paid editor position with MedScribe (FL) 3 weeks ago.  Recruiter promised huge volume of work, plenty of backup accounts on hourly pay plus CPL for transcribed lines. Was rushed through paperwork to start immediately, gave only 5 days notice to former employer (burned that bridge) for an hourly paid "sure thing".  Never saw hourly pay; only 0.08 CPL for full transcribe acute care, and only to catch up an out-of-TAT acct they knew was bailing ...

DQS is driving me crazy today.  When I push the pedal, it takes a couple seconds to start playing.  If I let off the pedal, it keeps going for a couple seconds and I can't get it to stop.  The typing I am doing does not keep up with my finger speed either, with words not showing up until after I've typed them. I use my own computer and have never encountered this issue before.  It is a major hindrance though, slowing me down. What's next? ...
