It's 7 hours since being terminated and I have begun the dismantling of my office, sorting through e-files, papers, sticky notes, reminders, etc., gotta oil the shredder because it's gonna be working overtime (pun intended).  After 26 years of working here in this room I have many emotions.  I loved working at home for Secrephone and Medquist.  MModal, however, is the worst, the worst management crew, no scruples, no morals, (just plain no brains), money-hungry execs looking out for "their own," taking jobs from Americans.  NEVER GIVING RAISES.  I will not miss the extreme rules, the ridiculousness that seemed to feed on itself, wait 15 minutes, now wait only 6....can't be late, change schedule, change again, 96% accuracy, then 98+, soon 99, do this, do that....the frustration.  But in between the anxiety and sadness, a sense of freedom.  I'm typing this on the "work" computer because I DON'T CARE.  I will spread the word as much as possible about how bad this company is, and let people know what is really going on.  Maybe a human interest story in the newspaper, maybe even one of the cable news networks would find this interesting.  The sky's the limit.  I will not be getting any more tiny paychecks, but I have the freedom to speak out.  I truly believe that if people knew their personal, medical information was going to all those countries they would be outraged.  Now I'll have time and I'm creative.  Don't mess with a woman scorned.

I know you are probably relieved but 26 years is a long time and it is like a loss. I have been here for 20, starting with Secrephone as well and I am hoping to get laid off. I am sick of it all as well. I know I wouldn't miss MM but I would miss the day to day routine. Great things will happen for you I'm sure. I am ready to retire at this point so I am just waiting for the other shoe to fall so to speak. Good luck to you!~

It not only will wipe everything off the drive, IT will have to put the operating system and all the programs back on which is time consuming.

Thanks, pje. Wow, you worked for Secrephone too? You're right...26 years is a long time. And, "sweet revenge" thanks for the funny post. Yes, I plan on wiping this computer clean. My sons are computer whizzes...waiting for my older one to get home (he works as a computer programmer/software developer so I'm in good hands) and let him work his magic on the hard drive.

Hi love, so sorry to hear that after all those years of service you get no gold watch or pension, just unshackled and set free!!! I would not bother wasting your shredder, oil or even electricity. Put all those old manuals and policies in the box with the computer as packing material - that is all they are good for. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do. That company bought the small company I worked for. I saw no change. I had the same supervisors, the same accounts, the same QA. I still made very reliably $17 to $24 an hour every day. I never could crack the $24 ceiling with MQ but considering that I had benefits and great accounts, that was fine. I believe Philips owned it at that time.

I left and came back 2 years later - for 6 months. It had changed hands and it wasn't even the same company. The corporate climate there was horrible. I've heard its even worse now.

I truly believe that every American should quit working for MModal. Hospitals aren't getting any great deals by going with services. They are just making middlemen rich. Its foreigners mining America's wealth. Its despicable. There are companies that advertise right here on this board that send as much overseas as possible. They should be boycotted. I was told by a middle manager that 40% of MQ's accounts wouldn't allow offshoring. We do have some power.

I don't know what the answer is but sitting by and being treated like we're all wastes of oxygen sounds like a bad idea. Are we waiting for the end? For someone to come out and tell us its over? Last one out, turn off the lights?

I am joining my voice among the rest who received termination today at MModal, (blind-sided as one indicated ao aptly, I received word as well). I am still reeling with shock at the unethical conduct that is taking place in this company. I am a university professor who has worked for them for over 10 years and it is nothing less than despicable - the manner in which this company operates. MModal has been deviously creating a cyberspace sweat shop, nothing short of the dark ages. Obviously American women have to lose their jobs, as India would be one of the few locations left in the world to put up with this. Legally, I hope to see some heads roll before all is said and done.

My company was bought out by MModal and I lasted a year. The BS and unprofessionalism was something I had never experienced before with any job. The pay kept decreasing, the accounts more ridiculous, and sitting there all day hoping and waiting for work when none would show up until after my shift, which I was then supposed to type to make up lines. I was afraid to leave and not have a job, but I can't tell you how much happier I am. Just reading these comments makes my mind go to a bad place. The sad thing is that I believe most of the MTSOs take advantage of their employees and do everything they can not to pay them a fair wage. I have no doubt that pretty soon there will be no more American MTs. My family says quitting MModal was the best thing I have ever done. There is life after MModal. You aren't making any money there, so why not find a job where you know how much money will be coming in every week? The government needs to somehow regulate this industry.

A more powerful constituency needs to come forward if the government can't. A way to stop this practice is for institutions who are contracting with MModal to stop now and protect the jobs of many women in U.S. who feed their families with transcription.

I have worked for this cold-hearted, degrading, ruthless company for 26 years. I started out at Medifax/Secrephone, MRC Group/Medquist/MModal.

I finally told my dad last night I was let go after 26 years and my severance package was $5.90.

My dad couldn't believe it and boy was he angry how this company has treated MTs over the years. My dad, husband, daughter, and family members and friends have seen it all with this company. How this company treated me when my mom was in the ICU and later died at the age of 57. How I worked EVERY FRICKEN HOLIDAY only to find out there was no work to do and not get paid for it. This job was my life. I put my heart and soul into this company. IT IS THEIR LOSS, not my loss.

I did not pack up my computer right away. Instead, I kept getting on the system and was able to see my accounts and emails. This stupid company did not cut me off the system.

In a few days you will get a call from IT department asking you how many boxes do you need. You only need to return back the CPU because of HIPAA laws. The monitor and everything else is yours. If your monitor is over 22 inches, then it is to be returned. I'm like you give out monitors that size to MT's???? I highly doubt it. So you know this company is giving out fabulous equipment to everyone else in this company, but screw the MT's.

I received 3 boxes and 9 labels. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I called IT department and told them I surely do not have 9 CPUs. They said it is a mix up. Too many people being let go EVERYDAY. The last biggest one was the week of July 22-26. Sounds like this week may even be bigger lists.

Do not forget about Glassdoor and writing a review about MModal. I am getting ready to post on their.

I am still trying to find my new normal. It is very difficult because I have this reflex thinking I need to check the computer to see if there is any work only to later realize, I was let go.

I look at all my friends my age. One is retiring from a teaching job at the age 50. Gets everything, med insurance included.

Another retiring from a TSA job. Gets benefits.

I could go on and on. Makes me sick I did not get out of this job 15 years ago. WHAT THE HECK WAS I THINKING?? I just had hope and thinking this job would get better and hoping something would turn around for MTs. Instead? Being let go which is the best thing that could have happened, yet I was foolish to have stayed in it for this long, especially when the holidays come around which makes me sick to my stomach of all the holidays I have missed with my family.

When you are laid off, the IT guys are to shut you out of the system. You are not supposed to get into your emails, schedulesource, etc.

There were so many MTs being let go, that the IT guys were overwhelmed and I was not shut down from the system. I was able to get into everything. It is very hard after 26 years not getting on the system and just packing up the computer and throwing it in a box. I noticed a few days later after being let go that my account was 22 hours out of TAT. I just laughed and said it MModal's loss.

Then when I got the offical letter, which took about 2 weeks, basically stating I am officially free from the company, I then tore apart the system and now my desk in the den is free of MModal clutter. Instead, I have family pictures on my desk.

Why the heck would I get on and work for free after being laid off for this company.

Woman, Scorned, do you think there is some way we can find out exactly how many women lost their jobs yesterday morning (or even this year) without an early notice? This company should not be allowed to continue operating in this manner. A bigger, more powerful constituency needs to know about their practices, i.e. hospitals, clinic, physicians, and other US Medical institutions have the power to remove their accounts and outsource to US companies.

I was also told Hundreds were let go July 22-26th. The largest amount so far. Pages and pages with lists of names. There were managers, IT and MTs let go.

As for this week? Sounds like it might be a larger list.
