I would like to add another thing on this topic if I may - Nick

I know of a case in which a guy was hired as an IC and was working as an IC but the company misclassified him as an employee. I could not understand why a company would do that. Well, the other night I was having dinner with a friend, one of those corporate guys with a Brooks Brothers suit and an MBA, and he said that companies do this all the time because it makes the company look bigger than it really is. He said that if, let's say, the owners of Ace#1 Transcription (fake name) are trying to sell the company, the company will be worth more if it looks like it has more employees than it really does. He says this actually happens a lot more frequently than you might think. And, of course, it is illegal. So if you think you are being misclassified in any way, contact the IRS. We just had a tutorial on how they are really cracking down on people who misclassify. Now would be a good time to land on them with both feet.
