my husband is self-employed, so that's why I have the employee insurance. ACA subsidy - he says we make a little too much to be able to take advantage of that. (He's a good researcher, I trust him on the numbers.) And like another poster mentioned, I don't want to start collecting SS this early, would want to wait a few years to get the higher payouts. I've had cancer, he had a heart attack in his 40s, so insurance companies don't like to give us good rates, even though we've had no issues for the many years since then and lost weight and got healthy. Prisoners to health insurance, IMO.
