Congress passed the law last year that if you are 62 you can choose your own SS benefit or half of spouses (the greater of the 2), but then you cannot change it later.
I do think there needs to be changes made to system to be more fair to all women, single and married.
Women who leave the workforce to raise families and who, on average, earn less then men, will have decreased SS benefits for their retirement compared to most men.
