...asking if they are interested in an article or essay (heck we practically do that on this board) about what's going on. Off-shoring is an interesting topic. Will invite them to read this forum. There are many e-news places such as Huffington Post, New York Times, etc. Awareness needs to be spread. We on this board already know what's going on...other people don't. Laid-off Day-5.

It isn't easy to do as I'm more of an introvert and love working from home, but there's just no denying any longer that this "career" is abysmal. I do wish, though, that Americans knew that their private notes are often finding their way to places like Mumbai. This not only includes notes, but even things like x-rays are being read by foreigners.

It is too late. I tried to rally people years ago, fell on deaf ears. It is not illegal to move work outside this country, never has been, and now is encouraged. THE ONLY ONES that can stop this is the people of the country making a stand on not wanting their personal information shipped overseas to our enemies. To me this is a violation of homeland security, and they wonder why ID theft is rampant.

U.S. MTSOs must be HIPAA-compliant. This includes ALL contractors and agents no matter where they are. Offshoring does not inherently violate HIPAA regulations.

Shouldn't hospitals and clinics be a bit more concerned about this off-shore in medical records. Making imported gadgets off-shore for industry is one thing, but private medical information?

Again, what Mattel brings to market is Mattel's responsibility. A Chinese subcontractor violated Mattel's policies - the compliance to which is Mattel's responsibility. Mattel has since instituted improved testing controls.

from India-owned it became a publicly traded company, then went private again in July 2012 when majority shares were bought by One Equity Partners, an investment arm of JP Morgan. However, recent rumors have hinted that One Equity Partners will be "spun out" on its own from JP Morgan and will likely be selling off assets. Who knows at this point who will end up owning what... but apparently for the time-being at least, MModal is still US-owned.

Ten years ago was the time to get out, five at the outside.

I didn't do it, I kept thinking they will ALWAYS need some of us to edit. WRONG. I no longer believe that.

So, I am just waiting to be laid-off so I can qualify for TAA. Right now I work full time and never run out of work, I suspect those days are numbered and I am embracing that reality and ready for a new life.

This article is actually almost a year old, but the writing is on the wall. If you don't feel like wading through all of the patting themselves on the back crap, scroll down to the paragraph that starts "Speaking on the company's India plans..." Either that or they are just that incompetent and can't catch any errors. I'm doing QAing on an account that is half overseas and half in the US and for now the account is 100% QA since it is new. The ILPs have to go through 2 levels of 100% ILP QA before it gets to me and they never have any errors marked. When I go through it, I find upwards of 10 errors on each report, some critical. I know QA wouldn't be able to get it either, but when I uploaded the job the QA box was checked and I tried to uncheck it and it wouldn't let me. Are they kidding? Who is going to be sending ANYTHING to QA and take a chance of having their pay cut? Especially if it's the beginning of the work week! I feel that I flag a lot and send to QA a lot. I've been at this for about a year, do acute care, lots of ESL etc so I think it's a reasonably difficult account; but I ask myself do really experienced MTs, e.g. those at this for 5 years or 10 years or more, send so many jobs over to QA? Okay, I got a ding today from my extremely sweet and helpful QATL. It seems I did not send as a cc a requesting physician dictated. I looked at the report and I did enter the requesting physician in the ADT and the body of the report. I thought if they did not specifically request a cc be sent, then you did not. Am I wrong? Old dog needs help. Also, I thought if the Req Physician was in the ADT it automatically received a carbon copy.. Hmmm.. ...

Yes. The Privacy Rules allow hospitals to disclose patients' names and other directory information to anyone asking for the patient by name or to the clergy.
