Sending a letter to - Dr. Sanjay Gupta

Posted: Aug 19, 2013

Idea to contact CNN and see if we could get the attention of Dr Sanjay Gupta to do an investigative piece on offshoring. After all, this is his country, and it might interest him for many reasons. We'll see if we can get some attention, and maybe you guys can also send in requests at this link. http://www.cnn.com/feedback/show/?s=storyidea

Found this on a website.

Good luck to you - sm

I have better things to do with my time, personally.

Agree with having better things to do -- - like learning new job skills

[ In Reply To ..]
I also think it is inappropriate, if not just plain bigoted, to single out that poor man because India is "his country."

I was wondering about that. I hope the OP really meant the U.S. - because Gupta was born in Michigan. nm

nothing gets done about the world of MT because of lazy responses like this. "I have better things to do with my time"... like what? Complain about how awful this field is, but then don't try to do anything to fix it? Yep, that's a great attitude to have and this is why some MTs are miserable and some aren't, because some choose to fight for what they want and what they believe in and what they feel they should have for work and don't even try to come back with "oh it's not my fault, etc., etc.," because ya it kind of is with this attitude!

Better things to do with my time - short list

[ In Reply To ..]
Spend time with my husband and kids. Read a book. Go for a walk. Check out my neglected garden. Deep clean my house. Make plans for school.

There's other stuff on there, but I'm sure you get the idea.

The real deal is this -- this field, as we have known it, is in its last death throes. I, personally, don't care about saving it anymore because there's nothing left to save.

Putting effort in trying to make this field thrive again would be like putting effort into bringing the typewriter back or the horse and buggy.

You all want to try, go for it.
agree. No matter how hard you try, you cannot throw a potato chip. - anonMt nm

Not lazy, we just know better. If you wanna play hero - fine. I am busy supporting...

[ In Reply To ..]
while looking for another job, while selling my house before foreclosure which includes cleaning, boxing up, throwing out, donating to Goodwill, having people trapse through looking, searching schools to see what I can evolve into next, finding a home for 2 cats, making arrangements to relocate to another state, and crying a lot because I am not well and overdoing it as I have no help.

I'm supposed to give a flying flick about this profession NOW? Don't ever call an MT lazy. You should know better as an MT yourself that many, many of us work 2 - 3 jobs (common sense the hours that takes) just to get by. Perhaps some of us realized long ago with all the union boo-rah wanna-be heros that it's not going to change. Wake up and start reading/watching 'world' news. It's becoming a global workforce involving many countries and as many professions as possible. Those that can, will. Sit yourself in any country world-wide - same thing - technology/outsourcing/unemployment, in that order.

Take it to Gupta if you will, but I suggest not copping an attitude if you don't get your way, and calling the man lazy, interalia.
I am sorry you are going through this - me too
[ In Reply To ..]
I also had to sell before foreclosure, relocated, still cannot find work, and will have moving again, but this time with no more ideas. No more 401k. I have burial insurance left. I have a bachelor's, several certificates for several professions obtained last few years and still cannot find work. So next step is a mystery, but it's coming. Student loan due next year.
Thank you. Me too, you. Saying a prayer... - anon

some things you just can't save - this is one of them

[ In Reply To ..]
You can't fight progress. Some jobs just become obsolete. It's irrational and naive to think that the jobs must be "saved" so that you can have one of them. Offshoring is not even your biggest concern, it's technology. Your goal now should be finding a way to translate your skills into something more viable.

Not lazy, realistic about how the world works - Ex-MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I am not going to get bogged down fighting for a "profession" that is gasping it's last breath for the US MT.

This is capitalism in action, profits are all that matter and that goes for the MTSOs, hospitals and docs. All they care about is getting it done cheap.

You can write letters and yell until your lungs burst, nothing will change until it no longer makes sense to them based on profits. If there are massive breaches in confidentiality and if there are huge numbers of expensive law suits for medical errors, then and only then will things change.

It is about profit margins and nothing else.

I think your plan is excellent and I appreciate the link. I believe this is newsworthy and there are some of us who will move forward, but can still try to right a wrong and educate people about what is happening in offshoring in this field. Medicine and support services are huge in this country. I, for one,do not believe this is a dead career, I talk to doctors who do not believe it is either. You have a good idea.

I think this is an excellent idea. I have played around with sending something to msnbc (Rachel Maddow) for a long time and now this is the perfect opportunity. Everyone should.

Excellent idea - idmt

[ In Reply To ..]
I know that most people have no idea that every phone call, every visit, every little detail that happens between them and their doctor or nurse or medical receptionist is dictated and transcribed and put in their permanent medical record. Our job affects every single person who seeks health care. Before I became an MT I had no idea and was amazed to realize this. I think the general public would be very concerned if they knew how these records are being outsourced and that our privacy laws cannot be enforced overseas.

I think that's a good idea - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
I think I get it now. There is no more real work ethic. People just want to do what they want to do at their job and get oodles of money for it. God forbid there's any type of criticism or complaint from an employer, especially since we all know as workers, we're God's gift and should only get platitudes and lots of money.

yes, we're so high on that list I don't evem see us. We are but a speck of dust in the global vacuum cleaner. Look at who we are up against...

"General Electric has 13,000 employees in a research center in Shanghai. Pfizer Drug has 200 employees at this same center. Pfizer is running 44 new drug trials in an outsource center in India. Microsoft has 1,500 employees at research and development centers in India and China. Nokia is building a new $150 million mobile phone plant in India that will employ 2,000 workers. Intel has 2,500 employees in India working on a micro-compressor called Xeon7400.

Other big name corporations involved in outsourcing in China and India include: Daimler Chrysler, GM, Siemens, Matsushita Electric, IBM, American Express, Hewlett Packard, and Johnson & Johnson."

And then there's medical transcription, the weebles that wobble. Read the whole thing.

Dec 20, 2009

A few weeks ago, for no reason that I can find, I cannot get the first letter of a sentence to be in all caps automatically, (unless I do it manually.)  The same for the letter " I " by itself when typed.   It was always automatic and now all of a sudden it is doing this and I cannot figure out how to change it back. Has anybody else had this problem, if so, how did you fix it? Thanks, appreciate the help ...

Any MDI MTs Not Sending Their Paperwork In?
Nov 28, 2009

Just curious:  Any MDI MTs not feeling like jumping through the hoops, printing out the paperwork for Transcend on THEIR deadline even though we don't become official employees until Feb 1?  Anybody going to just quit and save yourself the hassle?  Doesn't seem quite fair to want MDI MTs to just say "how high"  when they say "jump" does it?  I'm just put out at how we've been treated.  Yeah, it's business, and that usually means it is okay t ...

SENDING BLANKS THROUGH

I'm just sayin....as a radiology MT in this company for 14 years...we have always sent radiology reports straight through to the docs to review and sign (because of turnaround time)....never knew they did QA until I got new accounts 2 years ago....and have had some pretty bad foreigners.  I believe it is docs job to go over his reports anyway...he is legally responsible.. ...

Question About Sending To QA
Mar 06, 2010

Just wondering about the sending of blanks.  I had a few blanks due to inaudible dictation.  I know QA wouldn't be able to get it either, but when I uploaded the job the QA box was checked and I tried to uncheck it and it wouldn't let me.  So, how do you just send it straight to the client and not to QA? ...

Who In Their Right Mind Will Be Sending Anything To QA?
Mar 19, 2010

Are they kidding?  Who is going to be sending ANYTHING to QA and take a chance of having their pay cut? Especially if it's the beginning of the work week! Yes, the clients will be getting blanks and I know they will be complaining.  The Q keeps sending us e-mails telling us to cut down on QA submissions. Are they kidding? No amount of "tips" will help if the dictator mumbles, sneezes, is ESL, etc. Don't they think we know all the "tricks" already? Besides that, we can't ...

Sending Jobs To QA..
May 22, 2010

I feel that I flag a lot and send to QA a lot.  I've been at this for about a year, do acute care, lots of ESL etc so I think it's a reasonably difficult account; but I ask myself do really experienced MTs, e.g. those at this for 5 years or 10 years or more, send so many jobs over to QA?  I mean, do you get to the point where you can pretty much understand everything these guys are saying, even when they're chewing, slurring, belching etc.?  I would love to make it ...

MQ Sending More To India
Nov 20, 2010

My husband is in the stock market and has been checking up and reading things about MedQuist.   MedQuist is now in a transition of sending more to India than ever before.  According to the CEO and COO, they are looking to increase their volume of 15% of MQ total work to 45% in the next 6 months.  The purchase of Spheris was a smokescreen.  The contract with Spheris was that they could come in and set up shop with their own people and move the MQ folks out.  Which is ...

Need Clarification On Rules For Sending Cc's.. Sm
May 11, 2010

Okay, I got a ding today from my extremely sweet and helpful QATL.  It seems I did not send as a cc a requesting physician dictated.  I looked at the report and I did enter the requesting physician in the ADT and the body of the report.  I thought if they did not specifically request a cc be sent, then you did not.   Am I wrong?   Old dog needs help.  Also, I thought if the Req Physician was in the ADT it automatically received a carbon copy..  Hmmm.. ...

Getting Docked For Sending Work To QA :(
May 31, 2010

Why should we be docked for sending work to QA especially when there is an issue with poor audio quality, having a job that is incomplete or simply not being able to find the correct address even after we have spent time doing the propper research. This is as ludicrous as it would be if the phone company decided to charge us extra to call 911. ...

Sending X-mas Cards To Accounts
Dec 16, 2010

Does anyone send Christmas cards to their accounts?  I work as an IC for an MTSO and this is the second year now that I have received a fruit basket from one of my long-term accounts.  I get nothing from my MTSO, however.  Last year I sent them a thank you card and maybe a Christmas card as well, but I can't remember.  Anyways, I was thinking of sending them a X-mas card with a thank you note in it for the fruit basket.  Thoughts?  Anybody else get x-mas gifts ...

Sending Work Offshore
Nov 04, 2011

There is one thing that people should know when it comes to sending work offshore, be it India or Pakistan or any other country.  The patient’s information is strictly protected.  It is true that the SSN number and the MRN number is being given away by the doctors while dictating the demographics, but at the same time a person transcribing those reports does a minimum of 20-25 reports a day, do you think he or she will even remember at the end of the day what number belonged to w ...

If You Keep Sending Problem Docs Through QA

So sick of these repeat bad dictators..If we keep sending them through QA then they never realize what a pain in the tail they are..I honestly think a lot, not all, if they realized how bad they sound would straighten up..Especially the English speaking "slurrers".. Sending Email From MT Stars
Aug 15, 2012

If I email someone directly from MT stars will they see my real name? I notice a box comes up when you click to email and you type in your name and address. Is that the name that shows up when the person recieves the email? Company Still Sending Emails.
Aug 18, 2012

I quit working for On-Time Transcription due to VR and lack of income; also the fact they sold to Accentus.  I get emails almost daily where QA is complaining about this or that.  I've replied asking that she remove my email address as I quit and would really appreciate never hearing from this company again.  I've received two more today.  Ugh.  Just shows how they are unable to get things done. ...

Why Bother Sending An Email
Sep 03, 2012

I just wonder, as an MT we are REQUIRED to respond IMMEDIATELY to an email that they say "respond immediately" to.  But if in that email it states any questions, please let us know and you email them back with questions and now 2 weeks later, you still have not received an answer back.  Why is it that we are required to immediately respond and have emailed the same question now a few times and yet no answer from their side.  I wonder how this makes their side of the company run so ...

Does MModal Know That Their ILP QA Are Sending Reports
Nov 14, 2012

Either that or they are just that incompetent and can't catch any errors.  I'm doing QAing on an account that is half overseas and half in the US and for now the account is 100% QA since it is new.  The ILPs have to go through 2 levels of 100% ILP QA before it gets to me and they never have any errors marked.  When I go through it, I find upwards of 10 errors on each report, some critical.  It's nice to know our pay is going to lazy ILPs. ...

SCAM: Before Sending Your Resume... (sm)
Feb 09, 2014

This con artist is using indeed.com to advertise for MTs.  They use various cities, state the job is for a F/T MT to be paid $13 to $15 per hour.  They do not list a phone number or address, but list a legitimate business Web site.
