Team Leads MIA when no work? - 7th child

Is anyone else having trouble getting a response when there is no work? All of the people I am supposed to contact in an OOW situation seem to have mysteriously disappeared? No answers to my emails, none of them on Spark.

I have no idea of the convoluted concept of team leads. Do they work on accounts even though work is low? Do they cherry pick work available? What is their job description?

I am a Team Leader at Nuance. This are some of the things I do on a day-to-day basis:
Account specific training and additional platform training for new MTs and QCs. Coach and mentor new, transition, and graduate MTs to bring their quality and productivity to maximum potential. Monitor pend queues and instruct movement of QC staffing as needed to deliver reports within TAT and quality guidelines. Monitor pend queues for stat reports and assign stats to QCs for timely completion. Detect workflow thresholds and notifies TSM so that staff can be moved to other accounts. Perform stat corrections and merges dictations as necessary; available for stat job assignment. Assess and assist the TSM to determine which MTs have achieved direct submission privilege (DSP) status. Other duties as assigned by TSM (relisten to Fiesa challenges, spot checks, client feedback, etc.) Respond to emails from client support services. I can only speak for myself when I say that I do not cherry pick reports. I work according to TAT unless an email request is received for a specific report to be completed ASAP. Sometimes we get requests to complete all reports by a particular physician if they are going out of town, and in that case, then we would not be working according to TAT. I am also available for my entire shift on Yahoo and Spark to answer questions from MLSs and QCs.

However, when a question is asked, you do not know the answer. And I do not believe your statement "I do not cherry pick" as I have seen this happen right before my eyes during hours posted as your shift.

Wow! You don't even know me, so how can you call me a liar. When an MLS or QC asks me a question, if I do not know the answer off the top of my head, I research to try to find the answer. If I cannot find the answer, I send an email to my TSM regarding the issue to get an answer. I really do not care whether you believe me when I say "I do not cherry pick." I have been in this business for 38 years and did not get to where I am today by cherry picking. As a matter of fact, I find the difficult dictators most challenging and the only way to learn their style of dictation and their accent is to just do them. It may take a while, but eventually they become easier and less challenging.

First, let me say, I am answering these questions based on the platform/account that I work on. I do not know for certain that this is the protocol throughout the company for all platforms/accounts/team leads.
1. Team leads do not transcribe anything. All of the transcription is done by the MLS, and in some rare cases, a QC. If there is a request for a report to be transcribed/edited immediately, it is assigned to an MLS by the TSM. If no MLS is available, then it would be assigned to a QC.
2. I am paid hourly.
3. It is not fair for Team Leaders to cherry pick. I do not know what you mean by double dipping.
4. The Team Leaders are overseen by a TSM.

Why do some of us have TLs and others not? - Different poster

I have never been told of a TL on my team by either the TSM or the COM (both of whom are rather lacking in company knowledge). Do all MTs have access to a TL? It sure would be nice to know that someone is available when there is a question that can be answered quickly rather than sending something to QA.

Double dipping is traditionally a supervisor team leader doing 2 jobs like regular duties and filling in as an MT which would allow the double dipper the power to cherry pick the reports she wants to do and leave the garbage dictators for the regular MTs on the account.

Well, we only get our hourly pay. We do not get anything extra if we transcribe. And, honestly, all the TLs I know do not want to transcribe unless they have to.

the TLs have to do, when would they even have time to transcribe? If anyone is doing the cherry-picking, it's probably our fellow MTs. It happens on my accounts all the time.

Exactly! With all the monitoring we have to do, status reports and answering emails and IMs, we dont have the time to transcribe and lately rarely QC. Honestly, the way the work is pooled, I dont know how one can charry pick. On the account I work on, the MLS/QC pools are set up so that the work flows to them automatically by TAT.

I advise you to go to your TSM and ask about TLs on your platform/account. If you do not get an answer, go to the COM and keep going up the chain of command or HR until you are satisfied with the answer. The MLSs on the platform/account I am on as a TL receive our yahoo IDs and are instructed to add us to yahoo and Spark and we are available any time during our shift to answer questions. Again, I assumed this was standard protocol throughout the company, but I could be wrong.

I have the same old complaint----my team lead and her sidekide "SUPER QC" not answering their emails. Only this time, I actually got a response (2 days later, but at least I got one this time). I was intrigued and surprised....until I read the email. It seems she did not even read it. I was asking her an account specifics question because one QC corrected me for doing something one way, so I did it her way and got corrected by another QC.....same pay period, no bonus.&nbs ...

No one "leads" anymore, they just direct traffic. I can remember when the "leaders" used to help their employees so they could get a better line count, get through the hard dictators, or just do whatever was in their power to be encouraging. manipulate MTs' work queues any way that suits them, just because they can? They know just which jobs are crap & which are at least doable or that 1 in 10 pretty good dictator, and no sooner does an MT download a job that's at least understandable/doable, these low-lives snatch up that job for themselves or 1 of their friends as soon as the MT gets it in his/her queue? The TSM and QC person I've worked with forEVVVVER in the west is gone, both of them being moved up into new positions, and dividing their accounts and the entire team of MTs/MMEs has been disassembled and moved to other areas.
