higher productivity--same pay - used and abused

Posted: Jun 28, 2012

After AGAIN seeing more productivity and no increase in my pay, I sent my CCM an e-mail asking to explain it.  Will keep you all posted!  Maybe everyone should do the same, let them see how frustrated we all are.  Betcha M*Modal is the only one reaping any benefits from our increased productivity.  Bet the suits are getting major bonuses while we can barely keep our heads above water.

that doesn't make sense. are you saying you are not getting paid for all your lines or that you should get a raise because you are producing more?

I keep strict records of all lines produced and actually figure it out how much I will be getting paid every 2 weeks and they have always matched what I do get paid.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about that . . . My "downtime" has improved by 35% for a solid month now and there is still no change in my pay. Between bouncing all around between work unavailability, ASR/straight transcription, I'm not sure how you can figure out your pay so accurately, but I DO know that there definitely should be SOME increase in my pay, and there definitely isn't. Something really seems strange here.

I don't really get the whole downtime thing... - SM

They want you to "park" your job, so it is not open when you are not typing so it is not being counted in the inactive time. If you do this, it appears your productivity has increased, when really it will be the same but the amount of time you spend in reports overall is less. Not really sure what the point is. If you close out your report when you are looking up an old report or checking/answering emails, it is all still the same amount of time, you just don't have it on the report clock as inactive time. Then they are going to blame us for not having the DQM time matching your time sheet time. Not sure if this is making sense...

My mentor said the goal of the BOOST program is to decrease the net lines per hour (the lines THEY think you should be producing) and the gross lines per hour (the lines YOU are actually producing). She indicated this would make a difference on my HOURLY rate, the rate I get paid when I take PTO or if there is downtime, etc. However, I believe they only review this every 6 months so pretty sure I won't be seeing a change in my hourly rate for awhile as I think I just had a review a couple months ago. So pretty sure the BOOST program is simply a way to get us to increase our productivity while we THINK there's a reward in there somewhere!

Just because your downtime as improved it doesn't mean you are producing more, that would depend on how many lines you are doing, whether you are working faster or slower during your active time. You can check your detailed productivity in Ultripro from paycheck to paycheck and see what you are getting paid for.

The only way to get paid more is to do more lines. You would have to track that by actually keeping track each day of how many lines you do. The productivity email stats have no bearing on how much you are making.

I keep track each day of how many lines I do and my checks always match with the totals I have.

it's because the rate for minimum wage in my state is $8.25 an hour for 150 lines, which equals 0.055 cents per line, but they only pay 0.04 cents per line, so anything you do beyond 1200 lines a day is gratis by you.

That totally makes sense, but would only apply to someone who was making MW, right? - NM

Yes, for minimum wage. That's all I am paid, so I only do 1200 lines a day. I don't/won't work for free.
I agree. I won't either. 1200. That's it. NM - MT2

I've never been the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to numbers, but I don't understand what you're saying. If you did 2000 lines x 4 cents in 8 hours, wouldn't it come out to $10 an hour? I don't see where the working for free over 1200 comes in. TIA
There is a space between... - sm

If they got paid 4 cpl for SR, you would have to type 1650 lines for the day to make minimum wage. MM has to pay minimum wage though, so anything you do between 1200 lines and 1650 lines benefits MM. Now, if you type more than that, then yes, you would make more than minimum wage. Of course, these numbers would be different if we ever got straight transcription...

0.055 x 1200 = $66

0.04 x 1650 = $66
so you're saying - I think I see
[ In Reply To ..]
You're saying why type 1650 for the same pay as 1200. Okay now it makes sense.
Exactly, and could be a reason people are not seeing a difference in pay. - NM

That is so true! - Now I see it too
[ In Reply To ..]
That makes perfect sense to me if you are in that gap. No wonder there is such a big push for this BOOST, they hate paying out any extra money. It has nothing to do with helping the MTs, the company just hates paying out money. They would rather you work those 450 lines instead. They think we MTs are so stupid, we have been working their system to our advantage as long as they have been trying to cut our pay.

Are Requirements Getting Higher
Aug 03, 2010

Seems to me, "one year acute care experience" was the basic requirement to sign on with an MTSO. Then it went to three years. Now, a lot of places require "five years' experience." Plus, QA has gotten unbelievably picky. I've always had top-notch quality and even been complimented personally by physicians at various local clinics. Recruiters call my test scores "excellent." And YET, wherever I start working, my QA looks like the homework of some dyslexic third-grader that comes back fr ...

I Would Work Harder If...This Is For The Higher Ups
Jan 18, 2015

Let's see who reads this board. This is a challenge to the "bosses" to try and improve production and cut costs. I have worked in many jobs in my life from delivering papers at 12, to retail, to public service jobs, the one constant in ALL of them is..a happy employee is a productive employee. Business 101 says, if your employees produce more, you need less of them, and that cuts overhead. That being said I would be happy if: 1. You simply paid 15 or 20 minutes a day paid time to re ...

Very Interesting, Another Reason My Counts Are Higher During The Day.
Jul 21, 2014

I normally work nights and get the worst dictators and horrid ASR. Of course, the worst dictators are usually the low man on the totem pole and get the worst coverage. At least, that is my experience from everywhere I have worked. Plus you get the sleepy doctors that can barely move their mouths in between yawns. I also only rarely get operative reports. On the few occasions I have needed to work a day shift, in addition to much better dictation, I get a lot of operative reports (I am tie ...

Productivity???
Jun 14, 2012

I just don't get it.  When they started doing these productivity checks, I was at aan "inactive time" of a whopping 40% . . . or so they said.  I have steadily improved it every week and have dropped it down to 18, then 15, then 9, 9 and again 9.  However, my pay hasn't changed.  Doesn't that seem extremely odd?  Are we being cheated? ...

CALCULATOR just of a stupid waste of time.  I use a notebook, pencil, and calculator to track all the info I need to make sure I make my line count. Productivity Question
Apr 07, 2010

Does anyone out there have their productivity bonus taken away if you make too many errors? For example, where I work if an incorrect date is put on a report or if a report is typed on the incorrect encounter we lose QA points. That then is added to the random QA done every month and if you go below a certain percentage you do not get your productivity bonus. Just wondering if this is standard? ...

Increasing Productivity

Anyone know any good advice on increasing productivty using Medrite or just in general? I have been working for almost a year since graduating and i'm getting better slowly but surely, but i'd like to see more progress, as my pay rate is on the low side and I figured if I can be faster than I can kind of give myself a raise. Why Is It After Getting My Productivity Results

like such a failure?   Average lines per hour 250+ ASR (which I thought was pretty darned good for our ASR), and average inactive time 1.0 per report.   In the space of the past week, I find my daughter telling me I do not do a proper job in taking care of her son, my husband tells me that his house has never been messier and that I dont care for myself anymore, after scrubbing the carpets my cat puked all over the place as if to prove "I missed a spot" and then the productivity re ...

Do The Productivity Numbers Really Add Up?
Apr 13, 2011

My actual ASR lph and what they say I could do if there wasn't any "inactive" time is usually almost double. I have no idea how I can humanly close that gap. And yes, I am not using the dreaded mouse. I put my nose to the grind stone with absolutely no inactivity due to doing anything other than edit, and yet, I still come up with the lph they report I am doing rather than what they think I should be able to do without any inactivity. Interesting that this time they had a mouse click re ...

Speeding Up Productivity
