Um, that's why you'd negotiate a higher rate, maybe? - I feel your pain. nm

...though we both know it sucks. There sure aren't a lot of jobs out there, though....Uh-oh--I can feel a "so why don't you find another job" snarker coming, as though it was that easy....

So don't contribute to the snarking and sidetrack the thread. - I am interested in the answers here too.

actually, you're right. If it works for someone... - anon

...please let me know. I don't think it will, but you never know. I'm just a little frustrated because it seems like every time I (or anyone else) vent frustration about getting screwed by a company (especially this one, and I recognize a snarker here as being higher up in the co.), we get told we need to see Dr. Phil, etc.

This has nothing to do with the original question about whether - these companies negotiate rates. nm

People are angry. - see below
[ In Reply To ..]
THAT's what it has to do with the subject. Does your posting that it has nothing to do with the subject enlighten anyone, either?
If you are angry why not do something about it - VRing

Change what you have, do another job, if you want to stay in this field, then put your mind to it to make it work for you. God, if I were as unhappy as most here I would just crawl in a hole somewhere.

Their web site says they pay according to skills and experience. - Maybe 4 cpl is just entry level? You can ask. nm

nm

Nope. That's not it. - VR 4 years and quitting

[ In Reply To ..]
It's the going rate. They don't negotiate. Only keep lowering the rate each year.

Most of the time, you can't make an honest dollar in this profession anymore.

My rate was cut in half last year. Before that I was making double the rate and doing fine. Now that a new program is in place, the rate has been guillotined to half. Can't make the quota necessary for full time anymore. Any day now, my company will be putting me on PT because of it.

I used to love VR. Had a good program and made decent $$. No more. Not happy at all.

Are Requirements Getting Higher
Aug 03, 2010

Seems to me, "one year acute care experience" was the basic requirement to sign on with an MTSO. Then it went to three years. Now, a lot of places require "five years' experience." Plus, QA has gotten unbelievably picky. I've always had top-notch quality and even been complimented personally by physicians at various local clinics. Recruiters call my test scores "excellent." And YET, wherever I start working, my QA looks like the homework of some dyslexic third-grader that comes back fr ...

Higher Productivity--same Pay
Jun 28, 2012

After AGAIN seeing more productivity and no increase in my pay, I sent my CCM an e-mail asking to explain it.  Will keep you all posted!  Maybe everyone should do the same, let them see how frustrated we all are.  Betcha M*Modal is the only one reaping any benefits from our increased productivity.  Bet the suits are getting major bonuses while we can barely keep our heads above water. ...

What Happened To The Higher-up.....?

What happened to SK?  I tried to CC him on an email that he needs to see and got a notice that the email was no longer valid.  Please tell me they didn't RIF him.  He probably would have fired me for the email anyway, but I'm tired of being told by my supervisor not to go above her head with complaints. ...

Change The Higher Ups To Production Pay
Oct 15, 2009

It is so so sad that some of our own bosses don't seem to care that we are suffering financially with this switch over.  All they say is "hang in there"..REALLY, oh yeah that's right you have no idea what we are going through because you still get your salary pay or even hourly pay....stop and try production pay for 1 month and then talk to me.  I'm done....outa here! ...

I Would Work Harder If...This Is For The Higher Ups
Jan 18, 2015

Let's see who reads this board. This is a challenge to the "bosses" to try and improve production and cut costs. I have worked in many jobs in my life from delivering papers at 12, to retail, to public service jobs, the one constant in ALL of them is..a happy employee is a productive employee. Business 101 says, if your employees produce more, you need less of them, and that cuts overhead. That being said I would be happy if: 1. You simply paid 15 or 20 minutes a day paid time to re ...

Nov 12, 2012

7 cpl job has BCBS about 53.00 per pp, dental 4.00 per pp. Employer pays for short term and long term disability, and they pay your life insurance at 2 times your pay. They offer about 28 paid PTO days per year, 8 holidays a year of which you have to work at least 2, profit sharing if company has increased profits for the year, plus 401K where they will deposit 3%, plus match 50 cents on the dollar up to 8%. They provide equipment. Very easy and transcription friendly software program, pay ...

Very Interesting, Another Reason My Counts Are Higher During The Day.
Jul 21, 2014

I normally work nights and get the worst dictators and horrid ASR. Of course, the worst dictators are usually the low man on the totem pole and get the worst coverage. At least, that is my experience from everywhere I have worked. Plus you get the sleepy doctors that can barely move their mouths in between yawns. I also only rarely get operative reports. On the few occasions I have needed to work a day shift, in addition to much better dictation, I get a lot of operative reports (I am tie ...

Pay Rate-HELP!!
Jun 13, 2010

I've been out of the industry and on unemployment for over a year, and have just been contacted by a previous employer to work for them again.  The catch?  I was very well paid by this company and I will be discussing my rate of pay tomorrow with the payroll manager.  I am gunshy about asking for too much money because I now know what slim pickings it is out there.  Should I just jump in and ask for the same rate as before?  I was paid by the page, does anyone ...

Pay Rate - Rad MT
Jul 11, 2011

What a shock to wake up this morning and realize the almighty "Q" has just sent me hurling into bancruptcy!  My husband lost his $75,000/year job 3 months ago and just found another but only making $8.50/hour.  As we don't live beyond our means, we thought that would at least let us catch up on the major bills.  But now I'm going from $1.65 a report to $1.20 a report.  That's a MAJOR cut in pay ($1,000 to $3,000 PER MONTH).  This is devastating and I feel ...

VR Pay Rate
Oct 11, 2011

I recently read a job posting that required 150 lph for straight type and 225 for VR - Does this make sense ?  These companies are using the excuse that we should be able to produce "twice as many lines" with VR - thus - HALF the pay.  If that is truly the case, then why in the world would the line requirement not reflect that as well.  Obviously, these companies know VR is not nearly as productive for the MT as they claim; however, I would venture to guess with the MT making hal ...

Going Rate For IC?
Jan 05, 2012

After nearly a decade of working with Webmedx, I like many others am looking for extra work to supplement what I will be losing with Nuance.  I have a chance to pick up some part-time IC work, but I have no idea what a good acute care IC rate is.  Ten years ago, I charged $0.12/line.  Is this still an okay rate?  More?  Less?  I don't want to ask for too much and have them laugh at me, but I also don't want to sell myself short. Thanks for any advice! ...

Rate Of Pay
Jan 08, 2012

Wow, I'm an independent contractor and was looking at the job seekers board to maybe take on another part time job.  The rate of pay is still 7 to 8 cents per line??  This seems a bit ridiciulous.  I mean 10 years ago when I started with an online company, this is the rate of pay they started you out at!  I work for local doctors and charge starting out no less than 11 cents per line, especially as an independent contractor where you get no benefits or paid time off. &nb ...

VR Pay Rate?
Apr 11, 2012

Just wondering what to expect.  My company is moving some docs to VR and I have heard that the pay will be a straight line rate.  I worked very briefly for a company who paid one rate for reading the report and another rate when corrections had to be made.  Just hoping to get some input on how many people out there are paid just a flat rate.  Can you make any money doing this or do you find you have to work longer hours for less money?  Is there anyone out there who is h ...
