on a higher note... - kp

Posted: Mar 18, 2010

Have you guys been using the search engine to look up previous reports?  I LOVE IT, have been waiting for it for YEARS!!!  I just did a look up by patient and was able to avoid 2 skip markers...the doc was flying through the medicines and I could NOT get them, looked up a report for the patient, there was only one, but it did list the meds...WOOHOOO....there are some good things in these changes if you look for them!!

I hate it... time consuming and cumbersome - too much info to enter

[ In Reply To ..]
It should link right in with the repository, then click either patient or dictator.

They have so much technology out there, they can tell exactly when our foot is on the pedal, and this is what we get???

I do agree with you there!! - kp

[ In Reply To ..]
XX

But it will help you to avoid a ding to your salary, - something is better than nothing . .

[ In Reply To ..]
Just saying. At least now with things like meds you can get a little bit better help. Be careful though of both the repository and the previous report search. Make sure you look at who transcribed the report. Many in the repository were put there by the ILPs I was told by a former QATL. At least on the previous reports in the system, you can see who typed it.

Cumbersome, yes. Slow, yes. Better than nothing, yes.

where do you see who typed what? the names of the MTs are on there? - WOW...

[ In Reply To ..]
I never knew that.. I am going to check on their quality myself now.
transcriptionist name isn't on it... - kp
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm talking about the name of the patient when you need help so as not to lose money by using QA...it's just one of the tools...yes, it is time consuming, but if you only have to use it during the hardest reports, it's well worth it!!

Either way, we lose money. - Tired MT

[ In Reply To ..]
If we do the research, we are not transcribing; ergo, we lose money.

If we don't do the research we get dinged for sending in the markers.

Either way, we lose money, and the Q gains more money.

OMG, I cannot believe some of you people - OMG

[ In Reply To ..]
I think you would complain if you were handed a million bucks because you think it should be more!

The lookup feature is a great tool and could possibly save you from going over the 5% mark in QA submissions and maybe just learn something in the process so you do not have to look it up again. The same goes for those complaining about Bennchmark KB, another great tool I use daily. If you refuse to use the tools offered to help you do a better job, then perhaps you deserve to have your pay decreased and whatever other deciplinary action taken.

It still sucks - LucyK

[ In Reply To ..]
Do we get paid for the time it takes to look this up? Do we get paid for the time it takes to pull it up? It may save us going over the allowed QA markers, but they are still shorting our checks and not paying us for all we have to do. Don't throw this starving dog a bone with no meat on it.
Between a rock and a hard place. - That is what it is called.
[ In Reply To ..]
We are given two unsatisfactory options --

1. Take time researching and waiting while the system limps along -- cutting into your time -- and time means money.
2. Sending the blank to QA and taking a ding to your salary.

Either way, you lose money. You may fill that blank, but the time it takes waiting for the system does mean money.

It is a great tool, only if you are not on a shift where the system just hangs and doesn't give you the information anyway.

There is no good salary to be made in this field any more with any national/international MTSO any more.

Find a local job with a small hospital/clinic with no need to outsource or get out of this stinking field. Or stay on and hopefully you will get laid off and collect UE while you go back to school.
short and sweet, and oh, so right! - mushroom
[ In Reply To ..]
and add to that time spent reading work-related emails and sending work-related emails -- just not fair at all!!

YEAH - a voice of reason - mt

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm going to get flamed for this, but I agree - it is AWESOME to be able to look up reports on the same patient, and fantastic not to have rely on someone having put a document into the repository. Sometimes at the end of a shift, you can't even here the best of 'em and this can save your butt big time.
Playing into their hands - LucyK
[ In Reply To ..]
The way I see it, it's just a way to cut into our time and our lines, making us look things like this up, and as I posted before, I refuse to play their game. They aren't going to sucker me into working my tail off and not paying me. I'm going to continue doing my job as I always have. I'm glad the searches do help some people, and I hope they help others, but I just don't care anymore.
You are right. The MTs and the clients are now QA for MQ. - More work for less pay.
[ In Reply To ..]
It is great to keep from sending a blank sometimes. But the truth is, it takes time. Time is money. And the truth is YOU are all now doing with QA once did for a decent hourly wage.

So, I look at it like a self serve check out counter at the supermarket. What a cashier and a bagger once did, we are doing ourselves without even a penny discount for our order. The only ones keeping that money saved from no cashier, no bagger, is the management of the supermarket.

Just like MQ. No QA. No QATL. The MTs do the research themselves for no exra pay, and the only ones benefitting are the suits at MQ. They are saving two departments worth of salaries. And not sharing a dime with the MTs now doing the work.

Boy are you right. The employees are being SO conditioned. Just accept it. Be happy. Sure you can research. Take all the time you need. But you ain't getting another penny for your trouble.

OMG I cannot believe YOU.......... - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
Sounds like a non-MT to me. If you were, you would understand who utterly ridiculous it this is. YES, the idea of being able to look up past reports is excellent...but this system fails miserably....because of the amount of TIME that it takes to MAYBE pull of something of use....it will drag your pay down so far the 5% is a moot point.

I'm sick of the people who say we always "complain." I'm sick of MQ hyping every one of their ideas up to sound good, only to be let down each and every damn time.

Now, if we could go in there maybe when we are not working and read some of the dictators we have a problem with when it wouldn't affect our pay, that would be different, but nope...have to be WORKING to do it.

I don't have Benchmark yet, but I really, really, really hope it is less cumbersome. I would LOVE to use all the tools available so long as it were QUICK and efficient..........
researching reports - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
How totally unbelievable some are being with this new function. You'd think the majority of MTs posting here never do any researching and only use QA as the look-up function.

Anyone who has ever worked directly for a doctor has had to be their own QA/MME, whatever you want to call it. If you send in reports with massive blanks you could lose your job unless it's due to poor dictation quality. You have to be willing to call the dr's office when needed to ask questions and research things a lot.

I'm thankful for this new function as it helps me create quality reports and due my job better. I find it a lot easier than trying to do internet searches on phrasing - find the doc, search out the phrase, write it down, and next time no search is needing.

The only thing I dislike is not being able to access it directly through DQS. I think the repository should be directly linked to that DQM function.
....do my job better....not "due" - not enough coffee yet

Oh what is with YOU? I am certain if you are working for a private MD - you are getting an hourly rate OR
[ In Reply To ..]
a DECENT production pay rate. THEN you can AFFORD to RESEARCH. And what MD THREATENS you with CUTTING your salary for asking for help to complete the report? HUH? OH PLEASE. Go back to fantasy land, would ya?

MQ's system IS CUMBERSOME, SLOW, AND DOES NOT ALWAYS GIVE RESULTS. So there is 5 minutes wasted making crap per line.

Oh please!
Sorry to burst your "whoa is me bubble" but ... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm paid per line not hourly. The only difference between the two is my cpl is lower at MQ.

I've been here at MQ for over 7 years now and have no problems with the First Time Right procedure.

If you don't want to spend any time finding the information yourself, which is PART of an MTs job by the way, then send the reports to QA or to the client.
However, it sounds as though you're one of those MTs that already uses QA as your personal search engine.

I think it's about time MQ let us have access to these tools. It's your choice to use them or not, to send to QA or not, and to send the blanks to the client or not. Nobody is forcing you to change your ways.

Remember the 5-10% is based on total lines per week/PP and not on a daily basis. The higher your production, the more you can send to QA before getting the lower cpl paid on the overages.

These are the very people who are abusing QA and MQ is trying to weed out. The ones who do not want to spend any time learning their jobs, who cannot deal with any change, and who would complain even if they were in a perfect job. These whiners are probably still at MQ because they cannot get/keep an MT job anywhere else, that is the only explanation for a person staying where they are so unhappy.

Don't need to be working. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
You don't need to be in DocQscribe to look up reports. Please note, I am not talking about repository which I agreed is not particularly useful. However, to look up reports you go through DocQmanage using your user name plus dep at end. This does NOT require you to be in DocQscribe. You can look up as many reports as you want on your own time.
Dear anon - mt
[ In Reply To ..]
EEK! Dangerous ground here disputing the whiners. Of course you are correct that you can reasearch when not working, but the whiners who NEVER take the initiative to do anything on their own don't want too know that it is possible to improve their performance - they just want to whiiiiiinnnnnneeeeee.
So we are whiners, huh - LucyK
[ In Reply To ..]
So we are whiners, huh? When we are working FULL TIME hours, and not making even enough to keep the electricity on? And on some reports I used to spend as much as 15 minutes researching, which is 15 minutes I could have spent typing another report and more lines.
Go ahead and try to shove the sunshine down our throats. MQ has been doing that too... but I personally am not buying it.
if you're working full time for so little money - L&L
[ In Reply To ..]
you're in the wrong business, honey.

After 30+ years I still spend a lot of researching...something new is developed every day.

And I think it is good if MQ is trying to weed out people substituting QA for research. Reports coming to me broken by other MTs are usually pure crap.

Uh, excuse me - LucyK
[ In Reply To ..]
Uh, excuse me, honey, I have been in this business 7 years, with MQ, and when I started I made good money and didn't do any more research than now, my audits were always good, and not one complaint. And now I am making far less than when I started, yet work just as hard. I'd say that is something to complain about.
Those here who are "whining" are not willing to roll over like a good MQ puppy to all these unfair tactics they are throwing out. That is my point.
So don't "roll over," simply LEAVE - amusing
[ In Reply To ..]
Is not leaving a company you hate so much the same as rolling over like a puppy dog? I don't know why...never mind, mute point.

Are you sure about that? CCM said had to be working and could ONLY look up the dictator or patient you were in RIGHT THEN. Doing anything else including looking randomly at reports when you were not working is a HIPPA violation. I'm just telling you what she said. I would like to be able to do that. That's all I need, though, to try it and then get fired for a HIPPA violation.

I think if anyone is going to do this, they might want to get it in writing that it is okay first.......just saying

I would love to be able to use that. It's a great idea at least, but I wish it were more efficient as far as how long it takes to load up the info. Maybe it's just this slow computer, I don't know. But I'm working on it!

How can it possibly be that NONE of your dictators have any previous documents?! Are you confusing the repository with the search?

SOME of my docs are in the system - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
But some are not - a lot of the students who dictate are not in it. But the main problem is that it takes TOO long to do this. Why can't there be something to click on at the client profile - like the repository (which is a joke). How hard could that be? It just takes way too much time - if you have to use it several times a day, you are wasting a lot of time. And some of the ESL docs - there is no way ANYBODY knows what they are actually saying. The only way it is in the repository or anywhere else is that the doc at some point told somebody what he was saying and they put it in a repository or report. And everybody after that is supposed to just put that in. I have been doing this over 20 years and some of these docs, there is just no way. For those docs, a standard would be nice.
Re: Some docs in system - Dina
[ In Reply To ..]
At two companies where I previously worked part-time, (with 2 different systems--obviously not DocQscribe) all it took was one keyboard command to bring up the pt. list. (or a different keystroke for the MD list). So, while typing the report--just one keystroke brought up either the patient list or MD list. From there, arrow to whatever report you wanted to view and click on it. To see MD's past dictations, same thing---just one keystroke brought up a list of doctor's previous reports and you could click on whatever you wanted to read. Hit escape key when through. Could not have been simpler. For MQ to burden production MTs with this time-consuming process is ridiculous.

Are Requirements Getting Higher
Aug 03, 2010

Seems to me, "one year acute care experience" was the basic requirement to sign on with an MTSO. Then it went to three years. Now, a lot of places require "five years' experience." Plus, QA has gotten unbelievably picky. I've always had top-notch quality and even been complimented personally by physicians at various local clinics. Recruiters call my test scores "excellent." And YET, wherever I start working, my QA looks like the homework of some dyslexic third-grader that comes back fr ...
