productivity time - ready2quit

Posted: May 10, 2012

Just curious .  .  . was anyone else shocked by an extremly high inactive time on their productivity report?  I was given an inactive time of a whopping 42%!!!!!!  How could that possibly be when I've never even been repriomanded for not producing enough?  So if this inacive time is accurate, that would mean that out of 8 hours a day, I am somehow sitting here for over 3-1/2 hours not working, and yet somehow still meeting my line quota?  Just wondered what ratings some of you were given.

we did have this discussion last week - but in case you missed it

Some were under 15%, and some were way over! Mine was 33% last week. Actually I do goof off a little. So I tried to reduce it this last week, and today it was 24%. I feel good about my improvement.

Haven't been rated yet but I'm not going to take it - shortcake

seriously at all because I do spend time referencing and proofreading in order to produce an excellent quality report and I always meet my line quota. Just another way for the company to micromanage I guess.

42%? What the... - I had 8%!

[ In Reply To ..]
That is damn near half of your time not typing! No wonder why people complain they dont make any money. So, in an 8 hour shift, you only type just under 5 hours! OMG...

I think that is excessive, for sure.

There are other factors causing inactive time that have nothing to do with the MT. - dnr

[ In Reply To ..]
The speed of the computer makes a huge difference. At least for me it did. Cut my inactive time in half when MM finally sent me a decent computer. That cut down my inactive time by 50%!

Also, affecting the number of lines you can put out is the time you have to speed in the ADT screen trying to get and chose the patient name/correct admission date which can take up quite some time if the doctor, which many do, does not enter a correct number, if at all, and does not spell the patient's name. Add onto that, certain accounts have massive numbers of cc's that you have to find and add, worst of all having to add the address too - and for no pay(!) which I consider highway robbery. They claim their counting software can't count those fields, but not being able to have software that counts those fields is bunk. When I was an IC (lost my accounts to an Indian company) Sylcount counts those fields just fine. Unfortunately, since the hospitals aren't used to paying for that anymore, it would be easy to lose an account by charging them for this. Either way, we should be paid for our time and effort. When I worked in house, we were credited and paid for downtime for the average amount of time spent downloading/uploading jobs and checking/filling in the patient demographics.

Uploading and getting a new job also adds extra time at some times during the day when the server is busy, especially since we are only given 1 job at a time in our upcoming cue to aid in making meeting TAT better. Sometimes, I get the NJA message for a while when there are indeed jobs which I assume is due to a glitch and/or current load on the server.

I imagine, with some people, their internet might be slower. I noticed that, for more money, my internet provider gives you a faster connection, a little more money and you get even more speed. Although, I imagine that beyond a certain speed, it could be faster than the MM server can download. You certainly see the server speed for getting into the email varies with how many people are on the system.

Then, of course, some accounts have lovely ASR (most often with the smaller accounts I have noticed) and some accounts have a large number of standard dictation that only has to be brought into the document and filled in in certain parts of the document, such as left and right.

As you can see, there are a lot of factors that can affect the ability of an MT to produce lines that the MT has no control over and the company should work harder to minimize.

And, of course, there are the dreaded doctors who are difficult to transcribe because of either their accent or speech impediment (got a few of those in my accounts) or laziness and/or disdain for dictation (the mumblers, 200 mph dictators, etc.)

worry about my inactivity time as long as I meet my lines per hour. I usually just delete these emails without looking at them.

I agree with you. For 12 years I have worked for this company through 3 different names now. I have yet, not once (not once) have I ever looked at my lph count in those 12 years, and I don't intend to. I've been shifted around, a million different accounts, different hours on different days, work extra 98% of the time when they need it, I figure...I do what I can do as fast and I can do it with the dreaded ASR, horrible dictators, the multitude of accounts some with 6-7 page long CP's, and if they think I'm going to worry about my % of inactivity or lph...well it's simple. I'm not. If I'm not doing my job well enough or productive enough, fire me. All that crap is 1-2 more things I refuse to worry about. I'm like you...I read it, then delete it from my mail and my mind.
How do you have a clue if they are cheating you - if you do not know your
[ In Reply To ..]
line count for the pay period? Also how do you make sure you are meeting your minimum lines?

I'm in the same boat with a new team - as of the end of April...

[ In Reply To ..]
Poor timing to start tracking my productivity. I went from 30% to 36%, just because of the ridiculous CPs and unfamiliarity with the accounts. Funny thing is my primary account was moved to a new team so we had to go with it, which I thought would be okay because I still had the same primary. It amazes me that there was always a lot of work in that account, and then about a week or so before the move it seemed to seriously dwindle to almost nothing. Now I spend the majority of my day being bounced around like a ping pong ball, and I am NOT a happy camper!

Guess my 12 years with this company doesn't mean much at all... good thing I started college January 2011 and will graduate December 21, 2012, and then I am so outta here! To those of you who think you have no other options, I am living proof that at 47 an old dog CAN learn new tricks, and learn them well!

Productivity???
Jun 14, 2012

I just don't get it.  When they started doing these productivity checks, I was at aan "inactive time" of a whopping 40% . . . or so they said.  I have steadily improved it every week and have dropped it down to 18, then 15, then 9, 9 and again 9.  However, my pay hasn't changed.  Doesn't that seem extremely odd?  Are we being cheated? ...

Is Is Just Me, Or Is This New PRODUCTIVITY
Jul 13, 2013

CALCULATOR just of a stupid waste of time.  I use a notebook, pencil, and calculator to track all the info I need to make sure I make my line count. I wonder how much time was spent and how much $$$ was paid to come up with this waste of time.  We actually do real work, but a lot of employees at MModal seem to have difficulty justifying their (probably much larger than our) paychecks ...

Productivity Question
Apr 07, 2010

Does anyone out there have their productivity bonus taken away if you make too many errors? For example, where I work if an incorrect date is put on a report or if a report is typed on the incorrect encounter we lose QA points. That then is added to the random QA done every month and if you go below a certain percentage you do not get your productivity bonus. Just wondering if this is standard? ...

Increasing Productivity

Anyone know any good advice on increasing productivty using Medrite or just in general? I have been working for almost a year since graduating and i'm getting better slowly but surely, but i'd like to see more progress, as my pay rate is on the low side and I figured if I can be faster than I can kind of give myself a raise. Any help would really be appreciated. ...

And Another Thing About That DQS Productivity BS...
Nov 30, 2010

Gross Lines?  Net Lines?  What exactly does that mean.  Should net lines be more?  If I really average what they say I do, I should be making 27/hour???  I times the net lines by my rate = 27.  Well, that is for SURE not the case.  I only wish.  And what difference does it make whether we use the mouse or not IF that is the most efficient way?  Will their ridiculousness never cease to amaze me?  ...

Productivity Report And Job Log
Dec 09, 2010

Been told in the past not to bother with keeping a job log.  Got my first productivity report today and boy and I glad I didn't listen to them and continued keeping my log and screen prints.  They only show base numbers.  No accounting for: Having to use mouse because keyboard shortcuts are hard on carpal tunnel suffers.  No time allowed for their FTR without QA research in past reports. Inconsistencies on slider bar. (they're never wrong.....WRONG) No time allo ...

Why Is It After Getting My Productivity Results
Jan 24, 2011

like such a failure?   Average lines per hour 250+ ASR (which I thought was pretty darned good for our ASR), and average inactive time 1.0 per report.   In the space of the past week, I find my daughter telling me I do not do a proper job in taking care of her son, my husband tells me that his house has never been messier and that I dont care for myself anymore, after scrubbing the carpets my cat puked all over the place as if to prove "I missed a spot" and then the productivity re ...

Do The Productivity Numbers Really Add Up?
Apr 13, 2011

My actual ASR lph and what they say I could do if there wasn't any "inactive" time is usually almost double. I have no idea how I can humanly close that gap. And yes, I am not using the dreaded mouse. I put my nose to the grind stone with absolutely no inactivity due to doing anything other than edit, and yet, I still come up with the lph they report I am doing rather than what they think I should be able to do without any inactivity. Interesting that this time they had a mouse click re ...

DEP MT's And ASR Productivity Statistics

Speeding Up Productivity
Apr 06, 2014

I am looking for suggestions to speed up my productivity. I have been with a company going on 7 months. Besides the fact that I have had numerous problems with their Service Manger, which has slowed my production, but I also use Dragon Speech; not only does that help with accuracy, but production. None the less, for a FT contractor, we are suppose to be doing a minimum of 1100 lines in an 8-hour shift. I work at times 14+ hour days, 6 days a week and still fall short by roughly 200-300 lines a d ...

Productivity: Am I Too Conscientious?
Mar 01, 2015

I was an IC for 20 years before having to work for a service.  I hated to have to leave a blank and in the beginning would spend a half hour searching references (pre-internet) not have to leave a blank.  This became a habit I find hard to break.   Although the MTSOs require you research previous reports to try to get a clue as to what mumble mouth is trying to say, is there really time for that when we have to meet production demands?  With good dictators I do 200 to 300 LPH ...

Productivity Questions For You Seasoned MTs

ASR Productivity Statistics Rant
Oct 25, 2011

Regarding ASR productivity statistics, measured in ines and hours.  If the goal is to minimize the difference between gross and net LPH by decreasing inactivity length, then instruct all dictators to stop eating, talking to others, pausing, etc when dictating, and stop telling me to limit my time spent researching in one instance and then in another I'm being told to use the multiple resources available--you can't have it both ways! Regarding total mouse clicks:  Get real!&n ...
