all the things we do that aren't production - bitchinandmoanin

Posted: Dec 08, 2014

Here's the thing that gets me.  We have a punch in for production or continuing education, but what about all the general stuff we do that we either have to do on our own time, or if we do punch in, it will go against our production rate.  And it may be that it is just a small amount of time everyday, but the fact is the salary people don't have to read their emails or maintain their computer systems on their own time.  We have our Quality person who is maintaining a book of all things related to our customers in our book of business.  Shizit, I don't have time to read a doggone book.  It seems like they should at least give us 15 minutes a day, a punch in for miscellaneous nonproduction tasks.

It is illegal for you to work in any capacity - without getting paid

You think McDonald's employees come in and prep before their shift? Or are paid per hamburger?

Wake up Nuance...I think your "new and exciting" changes are about to be counteracted.

Call your HR rep.

Nothing will change - sm

We have been handling non paid crap for years and years..I don't agree,,,but no one ever complained and it is too late now..

Did you think you were getting paid a salary when you - were hired

[ In Reply To ..]
Your argument is ridiculous. When you were hired you knew you were getting paid per line, and you accepted that position and you accepted the pay for it. Now that your pay has been reduced and they're using a new formula for figuring out your pay, you want to be a salaried employee??

Here's the FACT. You won't like it. They changed how the figured out your pay and although you didn't like it you continued to work. That's the same as you accepting the change in pay.

And as for salaried employees having it so great, I can tell you it's not so great. They get hired on to make x amount of money per year, yes, but then they have to work until the job is done. Could you imagine being a salaried MT and having them tell you that you have to produce 3000 lines per day and as soon as that work is done you can go home for the day? There would be no OT, no clocking in or out, just do the work and you're done. Many people would be working 12 hour days and weekends.

If you think McDonalds has it so good, I'm sure they're hiring.

There have been a lot of recent lawsuits on - salaried employees

and they are watching just how many hours the companies are requiring them to work.. We could be put hourly, but then at anytime they could raise the line count so that it is hard to meet it. Been there done that with a 15 dollar an hour job I had..This job rots, its not necessarily because of the pay scale, it is because of the crappy dictators crappy equipment they use, the multiple CPs and nonpaid stuff..But like someone said maybe a 15 minute freebee a day would make everyone happy.

when I was hired in, it was dos 3.1 . . - bitchinandmoanin

There were branch offices where you picked up the computer and got your training. You were paid $10/hour for the first 3 months. They paid your telephone bill. You called your boss on the phone, and she was nice to you. You were paid 8 cents a line for TYPING, and you made a decent living. You didn't punch a clock. There was really no internet to speak of. Yes, I have been here a VERY LONG TIME.
I too have been here a long time - clyde

When I started as a newbie I was paid minimum wage until my production exceeded minimum wage. We were paid $2 per page and you better believe we used those returns lots in operative notes! My phone bill was never paid by the company. I believe I started out at 6.5 cpl and climbed up the ladder until I was making 10.5 cpl. We got bonuses and were offered OT often. When the work flow was high like it is now they would open up OT and start a competition. Everyone got paid for their OT lines, but the person who produced the most got, for example, $200, 2nd place got $100, and 3rd got $50 in addition to their pay. MT week we always got something special (and not some stupid letter in the mail saying "we made a donation to a charity in your name." What charity? Uh...you don't remember. Of course!). We got quarterly bonuses based on productivity. The managers knew those who needed extra work and were always willing to offer it when it was available.

Yes, I've been around a very long time too. And yet I never expected to get paid a salary, or paid to log in and out of Teamwork or read an email or talk to my supervisor. I was hired to be paid by the page, and then by the line, and that's the work I did and that's how I was paid.

I just don't understand those on here who are complaining about 15 minutes. For most of them it sounds like they're making minimum wage already so what they're complaining because they aren't paid $2.12 every day ($8.50 minimum wage divided by 4 to come up with 15 minutes' worth of pay) for maintinence activities? Wow!

And did you ever think that things are more expensive than they were 20 years ago when you started. Gas certainly wasn't $4 a gallon, and a gallon of milk sure didn't cost $3.69. Cost of living went up, our wages went down, bonuses disappeared, incentives disappeared, OT was laughed at, and suddenly we weren't making as much as we were before and everything was costing more.

But I'm sure that extra $2 a day would make a huge difference in peoples attitudes! haha! #sarcasm #Icrackmyselfup

Looking To Speed Things Up Some Production Wise
Mar 31, 2013

Hi. I am looking to speed things up some production wise. I have SH as my expander & I am working actively to build my dictionaries to include more phrases. My question is what is a faster way to insert the physician "templates" I have built. Currently I insert them into my documents using my expander but that can be slow for some of the longer ones (like H&P's). Reports are typed in Word 2007. I have been wondering about using macros but it has been YEARS since I have used macros. Looking ...

What Successful MTs Are Saying To Each Other When You Aren't Around
Jun 28, 2012

The "When You Aren't Around" part is just to get your attention. I know that many of you are also successful MTs. There are many others who believe they are and will argue until the cows come home to convince us that they are, when they aren't. Most successful MTs have seen the ones I'm talking about. I've been a successful MT for years. Throughout the years I've known a lot of MTs, some managing to get jobs and somehow keep them because of connections or friendships, o ...

An MT Supervisor Told Me (Regarding MTs Who Aren't Doing Well)
Mar 12, 2010

An MT supervisor told me that when they aren't happy with an MT's work because they aren't following instructions or are getting sloppy, they just take them off the schedule. Sometimes they do it gradually and other times leave them with little or no work. They keep the work for the MTs who are doing the best job with the least fuss. Interesting. ...

Hope There Aren't Any San Fran MT's Out There!
Nov 05, 2014

San Francisco voters approved a bill to raise the minimum wage to $15 yesterday!  I hope no Nuance MT's live there (HA! Like a Nuance MT could afford to live in the most expensive city in the US).  At the current line rates for editing, they'd have to produce over 375 LPH to not have make-up-pay!  I don't know for certain that Nuance has a federal contract, but assuming they do for their Dragon software (or speech recognition software, period), I wonder wonder if N ...

Can You Succeed In Coding If You Aren't Good At MT
Apr 05, 2012

I'm very interested in learning new things. I have a certificate in cosmetology, an associate degree in business admin/microcomputers (worthless now because I learn pre-windows), had a real estate license (couldn't make money in my area), a dental assitant diploma (can no longer work in the field due to a latex allergy and a hip replacement due to a tumor), and a MT certiificate. All the other fields academically I did VERY well at but MT was a struggle for me because I could never dev ...

How Would You Explain Why You Aren't Working At This Time?
Aug 30, 2013

I was terminated in March and now I cannot find a job. I have been working for 31 years, and this past account was a disaster. (I worked for 2 years at this company but moved to another account and had to learn so many, many things, and one of the docs were so bad, that when I asked for help I instead got a critical error. The TSM's seemed to not like me and would not help me learn VR (because my immediate supervisor went on leave of absence). So I ran out of work after 5 hours every day a ...

Aren't Bonuses Supposed To Be Paid Out Tomorrow?
Jul 30, 2013

Aren't bonuses supposed to be paid out tomorrow?  I went on to ADP because normally your check that is coming will show up a day or two in advance and there is nothing there so I guess that means no bonus.  I got one last time and I thought this will probably the last one I ever get with this company due to the new errors that I have all of a sudden started making after 15 years of typing.  ...

Dictator Ranting About How His Stats Aren't Typed
Nov 30, 2013

I just had a dictator rant to me about how none of his stat reports are being typed in an urgent fashion. The thing is, he only dictates that they are stat reports, saying "this is a priority report" on his dictations, but never marks the reports themselves as stats so they end up being distributed as regular dictations. It looks like someone wasn't paying attention in training. He must think we all have telepathy and know what is dictated in a report before even getting them. ...

Landmark Frustrations - Aren't Allowed To Work On My Account Due To Low Volume
Feb 08, 2013

Once again, we aren't allowed to work on my account due to low volume.  This is about the fifth time in the past week.  I've only been with Landmark for 6 or 7 months and I'm really starting to regret taking a position there.  It was great for the first few months, but then the work started disappearing.  Lucikly, I have a second interview next week with another company.  If I get hired, I'll probably just keep Landmark as a side job, because that's really all it ...

Is Anyone Sticking Around To See How Things Go?

I recently lost my MT job with a pretty decent company.  It was due to lack of work.  I know this is happening a lot these days, and I've been reading a lot of the posts here.  I know that no field is perfect, but I have to do something.  How many of you plan on (or can) stick around to see how things go, and how many of you are going back to school or getting into a different field? ...

Things That Make Me Go Hmm
May 19, 2010

Have ya ever wondered, WHY is it that we get "audited" when we are having really, really bad work days? Why does the "computer randomly chose" (ha!) the most difficult, awful report to review?   My latest audit was on a dictator I had NEVER EVER DONE before, on a brand spanking new account, was 1098 minutes and ASR and ESL!  I got an 84%.  (Hey! as far as I'm concerned that should have been an A+++!!  Least I gave them something that looked like a report.) Offshoring, Things We Can Do.

First off, I am truly disgusted with our government for allowing offshoring to such a degree that it has taken most of our jobs away.  We have written and complained to no avail.  We do need to do some things on our own too.  I recently went shopping for my son's school supplies.  I read the labels to make sure things were made in America.  Ink pens:  The only ink pens I found made in America were Pilot pens, BIC were made in China.  I bought the Pilot pe ...
