A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I am one of those oldies, but goodies...higher education, BS university level, married to a professional as a young woman for many years. At the time of my divorce, I told many of my friends and family, "When the men get away with doing this to their wives ("First Wives" movies needed to condone it), the corporations will do the same to the men, and those same men will not be able to point any fingers because they did the same thing to their women," a labor issue, if you will, which is what slavery wa$ all about.
Well, at this young point in the new normal of labor, the corporations are still not brazen enough to do it to the men but are still doing it to the women with good result$. They are selling their software to hospitals, with reassurances that these SEASONED hospital transcription departments will still have jobs for their people, will phase them in if they come aboard with the MM platform while they train them and (unstated) phase out the SEASONED MM workers (now over-hired and over-staffed by a long shot). Note, incoming are higher level, experienced workers from the hospital transciption departments who are replacing US. There is money to be made in the platform sales these days, not to the degree in transcription (keep those costs low). MM must remain "good guys" to the hospital buyers and the hospital staff, however, or the bad rap for their system won't sell further. The hospitals rightfully want their people treated well.
When AHDI published the breaking news of Nuance putting out the University of Pittsburgh hospital transcription workers, I was confused because AHDI plays ball with these big companies. Later, it became apparent that it was a ruse. It changes the focus to skew the truth of things and who is being wounded. You get rid of the first wife for the other woman in order to get ahead with a new system of things, along with an upgrade in power and influence. (The first wives, after all, have been through the hard times that took more intelligence and skill than with the new technology.) However, the team of hospital employees at M*Modal is going to LOVE THIS MAN for the chance they have been given in this "new-normal" labor market that...sure, it does not pay what we oldies remember, BUT...everyone is going to be happy to have a job, with the upgrade, the new platform, the increased productivity...except...who? who? who?, asked the wise, old owl.
JP Morgan is NO loser, folks! They took the company private for a reason.
