THE OTHER WOMAN - NO, NO

Posted: Mar 30, 2014

I am one of those oldies, but goodies...higher education, BS university level, married to a professional as a young woman for many years.  At the time of my divorce, I told many of my friends and family, "When the men get away with doing this to their wives ("First Wives" movies needed to condone it), the corporations will do the same to the men, and those same men will not be able to point any fingers because they did the same thing to their women," a labor issue, if you will, which is what slavery wa$ all about.

Well, at this young point in the new normal of labor, the corporations are still not brazen enough to do it to the men but are still doing it to the women with good result$.  They are selling their software to hospitals, with reassurances that these SEASONED hospital transcription departments will still have jobs for their people, will phase them in if they come aboard with the MM platform while they train them and (unstated) phase out the SEASONED MM workers (now over-hired and over-staffed by a long shot).  Note, incoming are higher level, experienced workers from the hospital transciption departments who are replacing US.  There is money to be made in the platform sales these days, not to the degree in transcription (keep those costs low).  MM must remain "good guys" to the hospital buyers and the hospital staff, however, or the bad rap for their system won't sell further.  The hospitals rightfully want their people treated well.

When AHDI published the breaking news of Nuance putting out the University of Pittsburgh hospital transcription workers, I was confused because AHDI plays ball with these big companies.  Later, it became apparent that it was a ruse.  It changes the focus to skew the truth of things and who is being wounded.  You get rid of the first wife for the other woman in order to get ahead with a new system of things, along with an upgrade in power and influence.  (The first wives, after all, have been through the hard times that took more intelligence and skill than with the new technology.)  However, the team of hospital employees at M*Modal is going to LOVE THIS MAN for the chance they have been given in this "new-normal" labor market that...sure, it does not pay what we oldies remember, BUT...everyone is going to be happy to have a job, with the upgrade, the new platform, the increased productivity...except...who? who? who?, asked the wise, old owl.

JP Morgan is NO loser, folks!  They took the company private for a reason.

I don't think the hospital cares about their people being treated well. - Val

If the hospital gave a rat's patootie, some person would have researched the conditions their transcriptionists would be dumped into. At my ex-hospital, all the CEO and minions were interested in was reducing expenses b/c they had built a resort-style hospital in a non-resort area and were trying to resuscitate their white elephant by giving the transcriptionists the door.

And AHDI published the news? I thought that the Pittsburgh transcriptionists took the initiative, notified the media, and said "Look at this!"

I'd disagree that corporations specifically pick on women workers. WalMart and McDonald's are certainly equal opportunity abusers. It's an attitude problem. No dollar amount is enough to swipe.

And I think a reason I never got married was that I heard more than one horror story about the little woman putting hubby thru dental school or med school and then whoops! he was gone...

Only 2 issues here, Val:

1. We are almost all woman. It is run like a system that once historically ran hospitals. We are not a Walmart, Kmart, Target, McDonalds. We are skilled workers, women for the most part, and from the old days, historically this has been a woman's role/job in a fraternity of higher powers, the men who once often had nuns as cohorts filling this postion for no pay at all.
2. Although some individual hospitals may not care about their individual people, believe me, hospital position within the community is driven by political correctness and their reputations including donations, volunteers, monies for clinical trials at the university level, etc. They care about their people from that reputation standpoint. M*Modal has no community relationship to uphold or connection with any religious denominiation, state funding/regulation at the university level. There is NO COMMUNITY to pass judgement on ethical integrity at M*Modal, only civil rights abuses to the individual.

The time is coming close... - Anon110

For M*Modal to spew forth their B.S offer to the MT Dept. at our community hospital. Have some ideas already but could use more suggestions/ideas on ways to get the community involved- to let our patients know exactly where our JOBS and THEIR health records will be going.... any help/ideas???
My suggestion - start a new post - at the top of the page

TERMINATED: A WOMAN SCORNED
Aug 15, 2013

It's 7 hours since being terminated and I have begun the dismantling of my office, sorting through e-files, papers, sticky notes, reminders, etc., gotta oil the shredder because it's gonna be working overtime (pun intended).  After 26 years of working here in this room I have many emotions.  I loved working at home for Secrephone and Medquist.  MModal, however, is the worst, the worst management crew, no scruples, no morals, (just plain no brains), money-hungry execs loo ...

Do You Like Transcribing For A Woman Better Than A Man Or Vice Versa? (SM)
Jan 19, 2010

I am to the point where I despise hearing a woman dictate because she is usually even more unorganized than my male dictators (if that were possible, lol), at least that is how it is for me.  The 1 that I am working on currently cannot make up her mind, is mushed mouth, once she makes up her mind she rattles it off so quickly that it is barely understandable, if at all at times and constantly goes back up into the report because she forgot something. Just curious as to how every once ...

To All MTs Who Claim To Make More Money Than Woman With BS Degrees.....
Jun 13, 2012

Those of you who claim to make TONS OF MONEY TYPING....  You are not straight typing MTs under regular circumstances IF I believe you...and I don't.   You probably work 7 days a week, all hours of the day like most MTs.  You DO NOT work a regular 8-hour day, 5 days a week and make that much money.  If that were true...there would be much more competition.  The only perk is being at home.  Period...End of story.  Stop trying to sell me your ocean front pro ...
