New NJA policy - MT

Posted: Feb 03, 2014

I would love to know how people are handling this new NJA policy.  As I understand it, if we get NJA during our work schedule, we are supposed to keep checking back for work through our shift.  We are allowed to work at any time up until midnight to get in our hours for the day without approval.  I really think if they have no work during your shift, they should pay your benefit rate for the hours there is no work.  I know some states have this, but mine does not.  It just does not seem right to have to work at any time, why even have a schedule.  It is like working all the time, very stressful.  If there is no work and we cannot make up the time, then we HAVE to use PTO to make up the difference.  This just does not seem like a good policty to me.  What are we supposed to do when we need to take off for vacation and other family things if we have no PTO left.  The whole thing just seems confusing to me and wrong.

You do NOT have to use PTO for NJA. You can take it without pay without using your PTO. Please read earlier posts just this last week about this.

Ths is what I was told by TSM - just recently

We can work up until midnight to get in our lines or ours without permission from TSM. If we do not have the work available to do that, we still have to make the time up another day at her direction. She did not say whether or not it had to be in the current pay period. If we were not willing to make up the time/lines that day, or another day agreed upon, then we HAD to use PTO. Now, what you do if you do not have PTO, she did not say.

Just recently - Hmmmm

So in a nutshell, you have to be on your computer to see if there is work for what 12 hours a day if not more and if there isn't any, you have to take PTO? What a bunch of BS. How many more ways can this company screw over its employees and yet they continue to take it. I would say, when you have NJA be actively looking for another job and leave this demonic place.
No, you do not have to make it up the same day - sm

If you cannot make it up the same day, you schedule another day with your TSM. If THAT is not possible, I assume because there is no work or you can't work that particular time, then you are supposed to use PTO. I did inform my TSM that I would not ever be using PTO because of NJA.

The time without pay is reserved until you use up your PTO, and also has to be approved. They were very clever in doing this. When you run out of work, then you eventually run out of PTO. At that point, when you leave, they owe you nothing.

leave without pay - mt

Just wondering about the 13 days we get without pay. How do we request this in teamwork? There doesn't seem to be a category for it.

There is a category in Teamwork - for it:

[ In Reply To ..]
it's in the drop-down menu under leave type. Excused Absence or Excused Absence - No work. You DO NOT have to use your PTO for NJA. It's in the HR Policy
excused absence - mt
[ In Reply To ..]
Is it okay to use excused absence for a sick day or internet disconnect?
The way I understand it, - yes. Our TSM
[ In Reply To ..]
sent out a note about using it. It is in the HR Dept under policies, then under "Excused Absences"
It also says
It is not necessary to exhaust all PTO, before requesting use of an excused absence.
So it's there in the HR policy. If your TSM says different, I would politely bring the policy to her attention.

I was told by my B.O.S.S. that we COULD NOT - The Typing Dead

not use the 17 days of unpaid leave for NJA, that this was time that had to be scheduled in advance and approved by B.O.S.S.

RE: I was told by my B.O.S.S. - Acquisitions

I believe you were misinformed. The reason we were given 13 days was for NJA situations. How can you schedule that?
I guess I really would not trust anyone but HR on this. - The Typing Dead

I was told PTO was for NJA and time off w/o pay for for vacations. Go figure. Also I think it was said on this board before that if you used TOWP, you had to use it in 8-hour blocks even if you only had 2 hrs of NJA.

OK, I'll admit it. I'm 62+. I personally don't care. If I run out of PTO and can't make up NJA, I'll retire. If I don't get approved for vacation with PTO or TWOP, I'll retire. If I get really pissed of about something some night, I'll retire. I never thought I would enjoy growing old so much.

time off without prior permission - mt

But what if you are sick or lose your internet connection and want to just take that time without pay. There is no category for absence that is not pre-arranged with supervisor, at least not on teamwork, not that I can see.
riiiite...MM changed the policy a while back, you - L&L

must use PTO or make it up. Period. No more time off w/o pay for NJA.

I'm starting to feel the pinch too. I used to have just enough work to get me through my shift and now with other MTs working whenever they can, working is running low. This is not a good solution for any of us.

How can you solve this problem? Quit! Find another job; anything, anywhere. I have been struggling so long with this company and every day making less and less money and losing my PTO, and not able to take any time off for fear there will be work and checking constantly, 7 days a week, I just finally quit. I totally broke down. The thing that did it for me, was the QA and hearing about all the poor quality reports from India and the nitpicking me to death and never, ever being able to feel I was getting a grasp of things, not to mention getting ahead. I found a small office job, no transcription and I am looking for something else, but this part time job which doesn't pay that much, pays me the same as when I worked full time for MM without the anxiety, etc. Please, everyone, do yourself a favor and get out and let them blow in the wind. They deserve it.

Possible Use Of New NJA Policy?
Sep 05, 2013

I know this isn't what they intend, but I'm wondering if we need to stick to our schedules anymore.  If we can "make it up" in the same day, is it necessary to wait til our scheduled start time if we usually run out?  I mean, why wait til our scheduled second shift hours if we're afraid of running out?  Can't we get on earlier ("same day") and get whatever is available then?  I'm not saying this is fair to those who are scheduled earlier, but there ...

PTO Policy
Sep 10, 2013

So help me understand this "new" policy.  Are we taking a cut in what we accrue for PTO?  I have over 15 years with this company and find it hard to believe longevity/loyalty do NOT count.  So as I read it, the person that started yesterday will accrue at the same rate as me?  "full time employees will accrue 0.059 hgours of PTO for each paid hour up to a maximum of 4.62 hours  acrrued in a pay period."  HUH?  Not real clear to me.  So we only get 4.62 hours per pay period?  Havin ...

Conflict In Policy
May 29, 2012

A couple weeks ago someone on here mentioned that we do not have to use our PTO for NSA. She advised me to contact HR, which I did, who also told me the policy is we do NOT have to use our PTO for NSA. The conflict is, my SM sends out emails prior to time card approval stating we have to use PTO if we have it, or submit PTO for unpaid if we have no balance. I am curious to know if my SM just isnt aware of the policy, or if she just wants us to use our PTO so our hours will all be accounted for. ...

Interesting This New Policy After My
Aug 23, 2013

When we got the New Work Availiability Policy last week I replied and made a suggestion that they go back to the idea of a 12-hour shift within which to get your 8 hours.  I pointed out that it would eliminate the work tickets and all the other administration and mumbo jumbo that goes on trying to get everyone's work hours in.  People would be more likely to be able to get their 8 hours in if they had 12 hours to look for work. It would increase employee satisfaction being able to ...

Confusion About New Policy
Aug 24, 2013

As I read the new policy what has been eliminated is the option if you run out of work during your shift, to just call it quits for the day and take leave without pay.  Instead, you have to keep checking back during your shift.  However, if you still are short hours you have the option then to take leave without pay.  I know this is not what the TSM's are saying, but the option to take PTO or leave without pay still remains in the official policy on line, at least as of yeste ...

Out Of Work Policy Question
Jul 05, 2013

Has anyone ever contacted HR definitively about the NJA policy?  Our new CCM is telling us we have to stay punched in for the "15 minute" wait, then punch out and fill out a Remedy ticket.  If we get a job within that 15 minute period, the wait begins again.  That would mean potentially we have to sit at our desk all day, only getting a job every 14 minutes!  When I asked how that would affect my benefit policy, she said "the lines you actually transcribe will offset some of ...
