Confusion about new policy - anon

As I read the new policy what has been eliminated is the option if you run out of work during your shift, to just call it quits for the day and take leave without pay.  Instead, you have to keep checking back during your shift.  However, if you still are short hours you have the option then to take leave without pay.  I know this is not what the TSM's are saying, but the option to take PTO or leave without pay still remains in the official policy on line, at least as of yesterday.

He flat out says you can't take off without pay. I wish we could. It does say you can make up time during the same day without your TSMs approval, and then if you are still short, apparently you need to make it up on your days off. Tell me where you think it says we can take leave without pay if we come up short.

The policy has not been changed yet - all we have is his email

He sent out that email late Thursday evening but the policy that is posted on what used to be MQ Central has not been updated. The policy still says you can take leave without pay and Remedy still allows you to take no pay as an option.

Until that policy is updated all we have is his email. What do you think unemployment is going to believe more? The official policy or some guy's email of wishes?

He says you can't take the remainder of your shift off without pay. To me that is different than running out of work, then checking throughout your shift for work. Then, at the end of your shift if you have a certain amount of time without work, you can then take those hours where there were no jobs available taking that time off as leave without pay. The email does not say that leave without pay has been eliminated. The problem arises with the phrase take the remainder of your shift without pay and what does the word "remainder" mean.

that was bought out. NBD for me i don't mind checking back for work during my shift. I have a life, things I can do while I wait. I choose not to sit around and complain about no work. I don't mind working on my day off as long as i don't have plans. Sometimes in life you have to make compromises. We aren't making widgets, we are typing reports whenever someone decided to get on and dictate. It's natural to have lulls. Just be glad you don't have to clock out and go home and then come back to the factory to check for work ;)

BUT it has to be a choice, not mandatory. Me I work my days and my shift and NOTHING more..but that is me. And I never complain about NJA, I haven't said word one to my TSM when I am out, I consider it bonus points and more time for me without pay..In the past when circumstances in my life were different, I would work and make the time up. Not gonna happen now though. I understand the lulls and all doing whatever to make ends meet. I have been a slave to MT work in the past and when I came back to this field I made a promise it wouldn't control my life again..I hope with letting go of the part timers that we have a better flow of work. They fired people for a reason, not because they were bad, but because the company was trying to keep the full timers in work. Yes I understand the India connection and I know all the work will end up there eventually.

I surely don't have money for my own lawyer. This eliminating remainder of your shift without pay option, is a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. They cannot tell me I have to sit around my house and wait for work and not compensate me...Can we contact our respective labor boards?

So I am looking into making the switch from MT to coder.  The AHIMA program says it takes 15 months to complete and then you can sit for the CCA exam.  The AAPC program says you must complete it in 4 months and you can sit for CPC or CPC-H.  Wouldn't the latter be better?  I've been reading that CCA is pretty much worthless.  So, why would CCA take 15 months and CPC take 4 months?  Also, every job I've seen for a coder requires experience.  How c ...

I have been looking at some ads for coding level I jobs at a local hospital but I have noticed this other places too.  They prefer an RHIA/RHIT credential but will accept a CCS.  Doesn't a person with a CCS have more indepth knowlege of actual coding than a RHIA/RHIT?  I have worked for 20 years as a transcriptionist and have had many supervisors with degrees and the RHIA/RHIT credential that were my boss but knew nothing at all about transcription.  Do the people hiring ...

Does anyone know what the latest status of the Mayo Clinic is, with regards to medical transcriptionists?  I remember they laid off something like 118 MT's last summer, and I believe someone here said they outsourced their work to Amphion.  So today I happened to look on the Mayo Clinic homepage under Jobs, and according to that, it says they're hiring "telecommute" MT's.  I can't find any mention of an MTSO... it appears to be a Mayo Clinic ad, not an MTSO ad ...

Okay, got the shift differential figured out but now I am totally confused as to the pay periods start and end dates. I have an email from Cathy Jones with Nuance that says this pay period runs from 12/22 to 1/4, which I think would be correct as it is 2 weeks.  My TL sent us an email this morn saying we have until 1/2 to approve our timecards and the pay period ended last night at midnight!!! Can someone clarify for me how schedules/Webclock is supposed to to work???  You are scheduled to work 8 hours.  There is no work, you wait 15 minutes, supposed to clock out and check back later, etc.  If all of this considered part of your 8 hours??  or do you have to make up the daggum time for all this crap of checking back and forth, emailing to get jobs assigned, etc.  I only have those 8 hours and cannot flex.  Are you penalized for not getting your hours in?? ...

I know this isn't what they intend, but I'm wondering if we need to stick to our schedules anymore.  If we can "make it up" in the same day, is it necessary to wait til our scheduled start time if we usually run out?  I mean, why wait til our scheduled second shift hours if we're afraid of running out?  Can't we get on earlier ("same day") and get whatever is available then?  I'm not saying this is fair to those who are scheduled earlier, but there� ...

So help me understand this "new" policy.  Are we taking a cut in what we accrue for PTO?  I have over 15 years with this company and find it hard to believe longevity/loyalty do NOT count.  So as I read it, the person that started yesterday will accrue at the same rate as me?  "full time employees will accrue 0.059 hgours of PTO for each paid hour up to a maximum of 4.62 hours  acrrued in a pay period."  HUH?  Not real clear to me.  So we only get 4.62 hours per pay period?  Havin ...


New NJA Policy

I would love to know how people are handling this new NJA policy.  As I understand it, if we get NJA during our work schedule, we are supposed to keep checking back for work through our shift.  We are allowed to work at any time up until midnight to get in our hours for the day without approval.  I really think if they have no work during your shift, they should pay your benefit rate for the hours there is no work.  I know some states have this, but mine does not.  It just does not seem rig ...

Anyone heard when the new PTO policy is going to be rolling out.  I thought they said it would be in January, so does that mean in Nuance time March/April?   Maybe they have to wait until they have "perfected" Fiesa.  This post audit M crap ..
