A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I've been working doing transcription full time for a small privately owned company for over a year. I am nearly done with my certification and lucked into this job through a friend. I am also a Medical Assitant and work full time at another job (nonmedical...I relocated and have been unable to find a job in my field). As I am learning on-the-job, I have been given a Neurologist, Urologist, Pain Management and Orthopedic Surgeon as my full time doctors. I don't get a lot of feedback from my employer but assume this diversity and work load means my work is acceptable.
My question is this: How much money should I be making a month? My average line count per month is around 21,000 lines. I'm making about $900 a month and am just curious what I should expect under the circumstances. Any thoughts? Anyone?
Lots of variables you left out. Are you an employee or independent contractor. Are you doing clinic outpatient notes or hospital inpatient reports? Is Full-Time 40 hours per week, 36 hours per week, etc? Was that $900 per month gross or net?
Not sure what Clinics or Hospitals have for minimum lines for FULL-TIME EMPLOYES, but just for a point of reference, here is what I have seen from MTSOs for minimum lines (if you are an employee, before they start bugging you or threaten to stop benefits or drop you to part-time) and usual cents per line pay, recently. You can probably judge the best where you fit in.
Lowest Minimum lines per day (average over five day week) = 1,000 per day / 5,000 per week
Average Minimum lines per day (average over five day week) = 1,200 per day / 6,000 per week
Average minimum Clinic only, straight transcription: 0.06 cpl
Average minimum Acute Care, straight transcription: 0.07 cpl
Average experienced MT, straight transcription: 0.08 cpl
GROSS PAY:
Average Minimum Clinic: 1000 lines x 0.6 cpl = $60 per day / $300 per week / $1300 per month / $7.50 per hour (8 hour day)
Average Minimum experienced MT: 1200 lines x 0.08 cpl = $96 per day / $480 per week / $2080 per month / $12.00 per hour (8 hour day)
Hope this gives you an idea of what range you are in.
