it's the old question - how to get acute care experience that everyone wants - when none of the local hospitals are hiring for MT (I've checked). I could try "cold calling" doctor's offices and see who does their transcription (unless they have some kind of digital chart system - fill in the appropriate boxes on their laptops - I think our family doc uses that system).
I actually had "formal" hospital acute care training 11 years ago - so seems like a lifetime ago. The school I went to locally did a great job but dropped their MT training a few years after I completed their program - I was told not enough interest in the program, so no job support from the school. I've been doing MT since I graduated but it's been radiology and orthopaedics - experience narrowed to 2 specialties. So, while I can do those 2 well, I don't have the experience to do acute care or ER, pathology, nephrology, etc.
How to get that 1st acute care transcription job so I can get the experience? I could talk with someone at Career Step or other online schools - explain the situation - see if they just have an acute care module I could get current experience with?
Any advice from acute care MTs would be great!
Hopefully,
Thea
