Does anyone have experience with Lofin? - wren

Posted: Oct 27, 2009

I looked in archives and didn't find much.  I'm trying to get out of a bad situation (very slow pay), but don't want to get into one that is even worse.  Would appreciate any info.  Thanks.

Okay pay, nothing to brag about. The accounts vary. Some have a lot of work, some not. Lots of ESLs. Some accounts constantly have changes to the specs. Work can be slim at certain times of the day or some days of the week (weekends and Monday). You'll be expected to give them a calendar for 4 weeks in advance. You'll be blasted with e-mails to meet that commitment even if there was no work when you signed on to work. You'll receive numerous e-mails or phone calls to work extra, with no incentive to do so other than threats that it's your job to do so. The contract is miles long and intimidating. Training is adequate. The system is Word based. The system can be slow at times, but overall is not the worst in the industry. It has its own expander system, but you can use other compatible programs that work with Word. The pay is on time and direct deposit.

What is the pay range and is it VR combo? - .

Their ad lists their pay range. It is my understanding that some of their accounts are doing VR. Their platform is definitely one that is capable of going to VR and I would imagine that this might be a consideration at any time, based on what everyone else is doing. The accounts I have worked on are not currently VR. I'm sure we MTs would be the last to know if they were being switched over, however.

There must be others who work for this company? What has been your experience?

Exactly what BeenThereMT said. Same exact - experience here. nm

I started with them 8 years ago, when they were still IntelliType.

If you don't mind doing a big chunk of ESL, with a few American English speakers that ought to be considered ESL, you'll have a lot of work if you ask to be put on City of Hope.

You never have to worry about getting paid on time. It's in your bank account at 12:01 a.m. every other Friday.

The weekend bonus isn't very much. It's based on how much work you do during the week. If you do X amount of lines M-F, you'll get a bonus for your Saturday/Sunday lines. If you do 6000 M-F lines during the pay period you get a 1% bonus, just for the weekend lines. For every 1000 lines you get 1% more. It goes up to 15% for 20,000 M-F lines.

It seems to me that they like to keep all of their workers in the dark. They'll bring in new account managers with absolutely no introduction. You'll just get a message coming up on their IM system saying so and so wants you to add them to your account. You can't make contact with any of the other MTs in order to get help. Help that would probably send a lot less jobs to QA. When I talked to Jason (I don't know his exact title. He pretty much only contacts us to complain) and used an actual MT's name, you'd think I'd breached some sort of security system. "How do you know her name? What are you doing?" I actually knew how to find the name instead of just a number using Ctrl+K while in QA mode. It's how we can find out all sorts of patient info. It just happens to also have some MT info.

The threats of "do the work or we lose the account" have been going on the entire time. COH followed through and went offshore for a month. They came back. Lofin needs who they already have and then some. At least for the COH account. They never seem to run out of work, the exception being the day after a holiday. You work five days a week and then they call the other two asking you to work extra. I don't know about the other accounts.

They tell you to fill out your calender way in advance and BE ACCURATE!!! Do not under or overestimate. "COH needs to know how much work to send, blah blah blah." You try to be as exact as possible, but they still ask you to do more work because the numbers didn't match up. You tell an account manager you're going to go over your estimated lines and you're told "Oh, going over is NEVER a problem." Well, then why are they saying DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE!!! ?

Don't agree to do QA. EVER. I was told, "It goes so much faster you'll make the equivalent of 12 cpl, so it'll be like a 4 cpl raise." Yeah, right. It was more like a 50% pay cut. I stuck it out for 11 months, until my financial situation couldn't take it anymore. That was 4 years ago, and I still haven't recovered.

I've been told such and such is my primary, but then rarely get those jobs. They "need" me on COH. No, they just switched my primary to be COH and then say there isn't any work for my supposed primary.

You mark on your calendar that you're going to be working, and still they call you and say, "can you help out with COH today?" Well, duh, it's on my calendar.

I've never gotten a pay raise without asking for one. I've asked twice and got them both. But I think I waited until 2-1/2 years into my stint to ask the first time. I've been told there's one more pay scale above my current one, but of course they don't tell you what they are.

The Costa Rica move is true. The IRS was going after them trying to say we were all employees because they gave out a small Christmas bonus. We don't get the bonus anymore, even though they moved out of the country.

I'd love to cancel my contract, but I need the income more. I don't know if it's burnout from 20 years of MT work, or if it's just from working for this company for the last 8 years. If you need the work and have no other options, apply for a job. If it's one of a few choices, I don't know. I don't know what the other work-at-home companies are like.

No matter how much you work, you will be asked to work more. The e-mails and phone calls are constant, and sound threatening. They want your calendar filled out accurately, but then sound threatening about the status of the account all the time.

And do the math. That weekend bonus does not add up to much. It's something, but certainly nothing to brag about.

I say we get as many MTs together as possible and stage a revolt.
Halfway joking.
It would be nice if we could have some kind of contact with our co-workers.

I have recently been hired by them but hesitated because of the contract stating they would charge me $20 if I made certain mistakes and/or I would have to work for free for a period of time. what do you know about this and how often do you know of it happening? also, the acct they assigned me to is KMA. they sent me an email stating there were almost 1100 jobs on there and needed help. what do you know about KMA?

They've never implemented that part of the contract - charging for mistakes. I don't know why it's even in there. If that were the case, some MTs would be paying Lofin to work.

I've only worked on KMH a few times. If you can make sense of all the account specifics, you should be fine. There are a lot of "If this is/isn't dictated, do/don't do this. I spent more time with my nose in the specifics than transcribing. But, I did KMH rarely. If it's a primary account, it probably wouldn't be so bad.

Lofin Transcription. Any Opinions?
Feb 28, 2012

I don't see much in the archives within the last year on them.  I know someone who just started with them and really likes it.  Set her own schedule, says the ExText platform is easy, is off QA already, and says they leave you alone to work.  Sounds great, but I guess I would like to know if that's the norm. ...

I see this company has an ad after a long time of not being around.  That, of couse, would be because they lost a huge account, as well as  a couple of other accounts last summer.  Then they claimed there would be a new account ready by Oct. 1st.  That did not materialize.  Last I knew, many MTs took a hike.  Many reasons not to work for this company.  Check the archives.  Biggest problem was lack of work, especially weekends.  They were also well known for having the rude habit of cont ...

Do You Think MT Experience Will Help In Getting An MR Job?
Feb 11, 2010

Experience.
Jun 08, 2010

I have been noticing that the experience level required to even get looked at for an MT job has went up. The 2 year experience mark has now went to 3 in most postings, and alot more postings are stating they want a minimum of 5 years. It is an up hill battle in an already hard market but with these kind of requirements I supose the seasoned MT's can rest a little easier and the newbies I guess can look for another line of work. I have already switched my gears and will finish my MA deg ...

Too MUCH Experience?
Jul 23, 2010

I am trying to figure why I never get a call-back on job applications anymore.  For instance I applied at one company who was advertising a week or so ago, I'm sure I did perfectly or almost so on the test, never heard from them, and yet now they are advertising again.   My range is not great, mostly ER and clinic, so maybe this is the issue but I have applied for these positions recently to no avail. How To Get Experience W/o Job & Job W/o Experience?
Sep 18, 2010

it's the old question - how to get acute care experience that everyone wants - when none of the local hospitals are hiring for MT (I've checked).  I could try "cold calling" doctor's offices and see who does their transcription (unless they have some kind of digital chart system - fill in the appropriate boxes on their laptops - I think our family doc uses that system). I actually had "formal" hospital acute care training 11 years ago - so seems like a lifetime ago.  Th ...
