Do all companies have testing that takes hours? - ss

Posted: Mar 01, 2015

Seems like a waste of a lot of time to find out later on pay scale is not what you want or schedule you want isn't available.

Used to be they would give you an oral exam during interview and guess you good to go.  Is that out of the question anymore?

Testing - We are supposed to be premed

Those tests are torture and either you don't pass right in the middle of it or you get a rejection letter with no explanation, or if you do pass, it ends up like stated; what is the pay and hours. If I see MTTest, I don't bother at all anymore. It isn't worth it. They want us to be premed students and an English professor. I am also noticing some of the specifications for computer knowledge/software and what you are REQUIRED to have, even though you provide the equipment. Now the new scam seems to be ICs have to get a license. What's next, we will be doing actual surgery? Gawd, this job just sucks any more and to makes matters worse, I saw a job listing on another web site that had a long list of what they wanted and what did they give in return 5 CPL. I couldn't believe my eyes. I wanted to send them a nasty note or a polite one and ask if that could possibly be a typo, as no one pays that low of a rate, except for voice wreck and what a rip off that turned out to be for us.

MT Test is the - biggest joke of all.

These companies must be idiots not to know that all answers are easily available on line, right down to the exact wording of each question.
The only test that makes any sense is 2 maybe 3 short dictations.

No sense at all on the dictations either. - anon

Testing requires you to also be a computer programmer. You have to download and then voice file and hopefully it all works with the foot pedal, or you are timed and then rejected. Last test 3 VR files to be edited, and one report was that of a Cardiac Catheterization. By email I was informed that I could not do the job because they were looking for someone in Acute Care.

Another service had 9 files all over 3 minutes long, and could not get the foot pedal to work, nor the hand controls. I think they were using testing to get their accounts caught up.

I worked in-house...we were paid for being human...now we are used machines.

Testing With Companies
Dec 03, 2010

I have a question for anyone who is willing to give advice.  I just tested with a company, and one of the specialties they were offering was OB/GYN, so I tested on that since that is what I did my internship on.  I know I did well on it, because I had all my reference books and knowledge from internship...but it says I did not pass, then it says, "we need people with 2 or more years experience." I was being honest on the application when I said I did not have that much experience.  ...

Very Disgusted With Testing At Most Companies.
Mar 07, 2012

I have spent days and days doing testing for several companies and either get ignored or some saying my scores were not high enough or they are not hiring after all.  This is really such a waste of time.  lThen after telling you they are no longer hiring, you see them advertising again the next day.  So, what is going on???  I am sure it is not just me having this kind of experience.  I have loads of experience -- 30 years and have done everything under the sun -- Radiio ...

Why Are Companies Stuck On Everyone Working 40 Hours A Week?
Mar 02, 2012

I've got great experience and when I'm scheduled to work, I'm there working.  What the hell difference does it make if I only want to be scheduled for 6 hours on four of my weekdays?  Would they rather I said I would work 8 hours and actually only work 6 like a lot of people? I'm willing to work 10 hours on Sunday, so we're talking 34 hours a week and more if I have the time, and I'm not asking for benefits.  I'm so sick of this job search.  ...

Do Companies Hire ICs With A Line Committment Rather Than Hours?
Jan 03, 2015

I have a full-time MT job working in-office, but would like to make extra money as an IC in the evenings and on weekends, but I don't necessarily want to commit to a certain amount of hours, but would rather commit to producing a minimum amount of lines per day or per pay period.  Any companies that work that way? ...

Wow, These Companies Are Getting Worse And Worse Regarding Testing...sm
Sep 01, 2010

This company's written test says that I can't use any references, but based on the questions they're asking, I'd have to be a doctor to be able to answer them!  So am I to assume that I can't use references when I work either?  So sick of jumping through hoops for these companies... ...

I Wonder What It Really Takes
May 25, 2012

MT of the year/month or whatever.  I figure if I show up for work every day, do everything I have to do without complaining, sometimes extra when asked, always make 99% or better on QA, then I should be considered for MT of the year, yet somehow imagine my name never even comes up when they are considering.  What do you think someone has to do extra to even be considered, much less win?     ...

This One Takes The Cake....I've Heard It All Now.........
Apr 03, 2011

From CCM:  She says "if the dictator dictates incorrect lab values, the MT transcribes as dictated, the error belongs to the MT.  We must be ever vigilant, not only to our own potential errors but to the dictator’s as well." While I completely agree that the MT should be vigilant and try to catch dictator errors when possible, it is absolutely ridiculous to consider something like this the MT's error--it is the DICTATOR's error!  Saying it's the MT's ...
