Companies that will allow testing without a certificate - Stephanie

Posted: Nov 15, 2013

Does anyone know which companies will allow transcription testing for potential employment, without having a transcription degree/certificate?  I know there are some, I'm just not having any luck finding them!

Not sure what you are referring to - mijaigramma

I really do not understand what you are asking here. Most MTSOs nowadays require that someone being hired, has at least graduated from an accredited medical transcription course. Many MTSOs will hire someone who does not have CMT (certified Medical Transcription) credentials, so not sure exactly what kind of information you are seeking.

In my own personal case, I learned "on-the-job" after being hired by the local hospital, so therefore, I did not attend an MT "school," nor have I ever bothered to obtain my CMT credentials, because frankly, it is a waste of time.

If you are looking for someone to hire you with no formal training whatsoever, I am afraid that will not happen.

Experience, but no certification - Stephanie

I know that there are MT companies that have you do a MT test before you're accepted as a prospect employee - if you pass their test, you don't necessarily need an actual certificate from a MT school or program. I have previous experience, though not as much as most companies would like to see; however, if I am allowed to take a test for a specific company to prove my capability, they'd see that I am able to do an efficient job.

test with MModal - see if you pass

that would be my advice.

good laugh... they would love an efficient job! - 99.6 efficient

[ In Reply To ..]
Unless you are an offshore mt who has no schooling but is efficient... then by all means, apply!

Too funny.

No such thing - As MT degree

[ In Reply To ..]
One would never get a degree in MT---there is no such thing. However, there is a CMT (Certified Medical Transcriptionist) credential that you would only want to take upon either graduating an extremely good MT school or after years of acute care experience.

There is also an MT graduation certificate, but that doesn't mean diddly if it's a bad school.

Years upon years ago, there was job training and you would gradually work your way into more difficult transcription. No such thing anymore.

If you went to/go to a really good transcription school, some companies will test you.

FYI: Accredited means zero, zilch in MT schools in terms of a good education. Accredited just means they qualify for federal student aid. It doesn't mean the school is good. The absolute best MT school in the country is not accredited.

MModal doesn't require any classroom training - just 1 year experience

I don't see what's so strange about her going to apply there, taking the test and seeing how she does.

Taking a test - First, you have to qualify

[ In Reply To ..]
Your resume has to show that you at least qualify to test. My point was, that if you went to Fly-By-Night MT school and have no MT work experience, they're not going to test you.

Though, I have to say that the list by AHDI of supposed wonderful schools, seems to be okay with MM and some other places, so...the whole field is in the tubes in terms of quality. I think they don't care anymore, these companies. It's all a big joke these days.
she does have experience - just not the schooling
[ In Reply To ..]
like a lot of us, she learned on the job. I think she would surely qualify to at least test.
She said she does not have as much - experience as they want
[ In Reply To ..]
That means she learned on the job or taught herself, and on top of that has less than even a year or two of experience.

She also doesn't use quite the right words to express this, phrasing things in a way that makes it appear she does not understand certificates vs certifications. There are also a couple of grammar and word misuse problems in her post ("a MT"). Not that those things are a problem here, but if they also appear on a job application, they would be enough to tell the employer she might not have adequate skills.

As an example, I don't think any MT would express their ability as being able to do an "efficient" job. That is the wrong word to use in this career field.

I applied with MModal - 31 years experience - me

After testing they told me I need to go to school with them and get certified.

Testing With Companies
Dec 03, 2010

I have a question for anyone who is willing to give advice.  I just tested with a company, and one of the specialties they were offering was OB/GYN, so I tested on that since that is what I did my internship on.  I know I did well on it, because I had all my reference books and knowledge from internship...but it says I did not pass, then it says, "we need people with 2 or more years experience." I was being honest on the application when I said I did not have that much experience.  ...

Very Disgusted With Testing At Most Companies.
Mar 07, 2012

I have spent days and days doing testing for several companies and either get ignored or some saying my scores were not high enough or they are not hiring after all.  This is really such a waste of time.  lThen after telling you they are no longer hiring, you see them advertising again the next day.  So, what is going on???  I am sure it is not just me having this kind of experience.  I have loads of experience -- 30 years and have done everything under the sun -- Radiio ...

I Thought About Getting A Nail Technician Certificate.
Jan 29, 2013

But the cost is around $5,000, the time is short only 6 months, but with working full time I would have no life with the classes being 4 hours every evening and 7 hours on Saturday. Okay, so if I commit myself to all of that, will I even be able to find a place to work? Most of the nail salons these days are chock full of Vietnamese workers. I rarely see salons with American nail technicians anymore.  What I would love to do is open my own salon, but where would I get the funds to do someth ...

"State Certified" Birth Certificate

Testing For MQ
Nov 20, 2009

It is truly laughable that MQ expects US MTs to jump through hoops, passing their tests, audits, trying to decipher absolute garbage and paying us like we were 6 month trainees, etc., and then have the audacity to send work to India.  I hope MQ gets its due for all the grief they have caused and their role in the demise of this industry!  If Verizon were to put them out of business, that would definitely be what they deserve. ...

Testing For A MT Job
