Do companies hire ICs with a line committment rather than hours? - SM

Posted: Jan 03, 2015

I have a full-time MT job working in-office, but would like to make extra money as an IC in the evenings and on weekends, but I don't necessarily want to commit to a certain amount of hours, but would rather commit to producing a minimum amount of lines per day or per pay period.

Any companies that work that way?

Yes - IC MT

I work for a few small companies that sort of work the way you described, except they don't have a minimum number of lines. I have a doctor or a couple doctors assigned to me for each company that I work for and I just have to complete the assigned work for the day--there are no minimum hours required. The lines are usually about the same on a daily basis, but sometimes more and sometimes less. Most of my work is due in 24 hours, but one of my clients sends work once a week and wants it back by the following week. One of my docs averages about 300 lines a day, another 500 lines a day, another 1000 lines a day, and another about 800 lines a day. I would look for a small company or individual looking for someone to help out on a part-time basis with flexible hours (24-hour or longer TAT). Try to think about how many lines you would want to do and see if you can find something that matches that. Good luck!

Soooooo, what company do you work for? - nm

like that and I absolutely loved it. They were great, no longer around or I'd say. But it was great. I ended up working longer and harder than I ever have since and felt great. I loved them, would do anything for them. Hope you find that.

Why Don't The Big Companies Want To Hire
May 31, 2010

part-timers for weekend work anymore?  That's the way it was done for years, full-timers for M-F and part-timers for weekends, and it worked great because so many MTs are looking for extra weekend part-time work anyway.  It seems to be mostly the bigger corporations, as usual, changing things for the worse here.  Is it just the laziness of the HR & management people, not wanting to process part-timers?  I suspect a lot of the very-experienced MTs are working at small ...

Any Companies Hire M-F?
May 15, 2014

I know this is an extreme long-shot, but I'm wondering if there are any good MT companies out there that hire M-F and pay a fair line rate (for the way things are today anyway). It doesn't matter to me whether I work employee or IC. I just left Nuance a couple months ago and am working general transcription on my own schedule right now, but it's way too strenuous for the pay rate and the work is sporadic. I've got to figure out my next move, but I hate to go back to working e ...

Will Companies Hire A New MT From Careerstep
Apr 08, 2010

I am taking the Careerstep course and I am going to finish very soon.  I hear that many companies wave their experience requirement if you take the Careerstep course, because it is so thorough and you transcribe so many reports that you can easily find a job.  Is this true?  Anyone out there graduate from Careerstep and find a job easily as a new MT.  I mean how do you get the jobs if you do not have the experience.  ...

RE: Post Below About New Hire With 30 Yrs Exp. Offered 4 Cents A Line
Nov 03, 2010

She says the offer was "set in stone."  This makes me believe that MQ is going to either try to cut everyone's ASR pay to 4 cents a line.  They will either get rid of the ones somehow (nit pitting followed by QA pay cuts, making "tweaks" to DQS that are annoying and slow us down, causing up to want to quit, etc) or we will accept their new "set in stone" rate.  They will sugar coat it by saying, "We are ONLY reducing your ASR pay not your regular transcription rate" and then ...

Oct 31, 2010

Go figure.  Cannot get any line count for today.  Also, to get into DocQmanage, it has a window that pops up and asking to get into your sites.  I wonder if it has anything to do with the email about the ethic reporting by third party?  Medquist stated they have installed a new phone "AND" and Internet-based reporting system, which will be managed by EthicsPoint, a third-party provider of ethics-based reporting programs.  I bet the company is trying to see what sites y ...
