I have a question for anyone who is willing to give advice. I just tested with a company, and one of the specialties they were offering was OB/GYN, so I tested on that since that is what I did my internship on. I know I did well on it, because I had all my reference books and knowledge from internship...but it says I did not pass, then it says, "we need people with 2 or more years experience." I was being honest on the application when I said I did not have that much experience. Do you think the reason why I did not pass was because of the experience part? I have a feeling that is the reason I did not pass. I know I did well on the test! What is your take on this! Thanks!

How is a new person supposed to get a job if they won't give you a chance? I'm so confused.

It is hard to get a foot in the door when just starting out, but my advice would be keep trying and keep taking the tests. I believe it is all about timing.

When I was just a few months into working after finishing MT school, I did the testing online even for companies that wanted 2 years experience. I figured if nothing else, it was good experience.

I actually got accepted with a few months experience because this one company had just taken on new clients and needed a bunch of MTs immediately. I had 98% on the test so was hired even with no acute care experience. I did great and stayed with them for almost 2 years.

So my advice is keep trying. Good Luck.

i agree with the above. I, too, did testing actually before i was even out of school. I ended up getting a chance with a local who helped me a lot. I worked for her for a few months and kept testing with companies online. I had only been out of school for about 2 months and got accepted by the company i work for now (for 6 years now) and am currently QA. I don't know what they meant by "you didn't pass", but is it possible you didn't meet their percentage standard on the dictation part of the test? Anyway, i say keep trying, look at ads every day and keep on testing. BTW, you were right not to lie on your application; being honest will get you farther. Good luck!

I have spent days and days doing testing for several companies and either get ignored or some saying my scores were not high enough or they are not hiring after all. This is really such a waste of time. lThen after telling you they are no longer hiring, you see them advertising again the next day. So, what is going on??? Seems like a waste of a lot of time to find out later on pay scale is not what you want or schedule you want isn't available. Used to be they would give you an oral exam during interview and guess you good to go. Is that out of the question anymore? ...

This company's written test says that I can't use any references, but based on the questions they're asking, I'd have to be a doctor to be able to answer them! So am I to assume that I can't use references when I work either? So sick of jumping through hoops for these companies... ...

It is truly laughable that MQ expects US MTs to jump through hoops, passing their tests, audits, trying to decipher absolute garbage and paying us like we were 6 month trainees, etc., and then have the audacity to send work to India. I hope MQ gets its due for all the grief they have caused and their role in the demise of this industry! If Verizon were to put them out of business, that would definitely be what they deserve. ...

How are you supposed to know whether to put the headings and text on the same line or put the text on the line under the heading, put a colon after heading or not put a colon? They said they go by BOS, but all I see pertaining to that in the BOS is the sample reports where they put the text under the heading with no colons after the heading. This surgeon dictates the same over and over in multiple reports, and I cannot understand what type of testing this is. "s/l Manuar test reveals 5/5 strength in forward elevation, external rotation, internal rotation, and abduction." It is getting very hard to even find the energy to test anymore. I have tested till I am blue in the face and dont understand why it is so hard to get a job in this profession. I graduated top of my class with a 3.98 and you would think I would have had a job by now. I tested for a company who stated that my skills were not up to their requirements, which I find very difficult to believe, as I have been in this business for 10 years, nonetheless, I am beginning to wonder if some of these companies are not scamming us. I was required to transcribe four different files with the shortest one being 6 minutes and the longest 12 minutes, but apparently, they were not good enough. Just found out my employer is requiring all employees to take the HITECH test. This is from the law that was passed last year. We were told it would take about 5 hours to complete.
