Physicians just aren't very business-minded - anon

They've never realized the full potential of the power they hold to make demands for what they need from the facilities and medical groups where they practice medicine. They generate most of the hospital revenue in this country. And specialists are driving the greatest increases each year in revenue hands down. Hospitals wouldn't exist without them and the companies that run these hospitals know it.

Medical transcription, as some of us remember it to be when we worked on-site and even knew some of the doctors, was very much considered an integral part of patient care because of the service we provided in keeping patient records quickly updated and accurate. We really were appreciated for the service we provided, and maybe that was much more so because we were up close and personal, not out of sight and out of mind like today.

I still wonder if US MTs would have fared better had doctors spoken up and made it their business to demand no job cuts from medical records departments and no offshoring of their reports. We'll never know...
