I do think VR - helps

with the inexperienced MT. It does the work for you basically. I think what most MTs are trying to say is that there isn't much money in it for the knowledge you're expected to have regarding the terminology. You have to be really quick on your feet to learn specs and accept a new dictator every single day.

It used to be a field where you had steady accounts and the sameness made it easy to grasp and easy to make lines.

Most jobs are IC status, so by the time you're done, there's nothing really left. What is there really to write off? It's not like you're running through reams of paper or traveling or any staying at hotels to run your business or offer your services. You're in you own house, yeah write that off, and then maybe a few office supplies.

I've had the same computer and foot pedal for years. I've had my printer for years. I don't travel at all for my job other than to pick up a printer cartridge or maybe a keyboard here or there, maybe a mouse pad. Let's be real here, there's really nothing left in MT but bottom of the barrel difficult dictators that no one else wants to do. Anything clear as day is offshored.

The EMR and VR and offshoring has caused American companies to underbid, so they pass that on to the MT with low pay and no benefits.

It's really a lost cause. I would never suggest anyone get into doing this type of work. It's hard on the psyche, body, and it's not very fulfilling.

No, it's not rocket science, but it does take some coordination to get there that is if you do a lot of straight typing. Again, VR has made it easy on the newer ones.
