Hello, Sam! - We want to help you

We are not trying to be mean at all. I do need to say that the people who transitioned into acute care transcription (required these days) without any transcription experience, are in the minority. I would say test for a company if they feel you would be a good fit, then see where you might fit in. It's stressful and annoying to go through all that, but at least you'll know where you stand. I do have to say there are a lot of scams, and your test won't mean diddly; it's just a way for them to get a report transcribed, then they will edit as deemed fit.

I have no doubt you are an extremely intelligent person. Some jobs are just very focalized, and not everybody is a good fit. It's not something you would know until you thoroughly research it and test for it.

I have a sister who is a very, very excellent R.N., but I don't think she could do MT. I won't go into all of the reasons I feel that way, but MT is a very focal talent and I just don't think she could do it.

Please don't feel bad. This does remind me of the engineer mentioned in this thread (who is no doubt extremely intelligent), who thought he could do MT. Honestly, I know 3 engineers personally and they are very smart. However, they can't make a sentence or spell simple words to save their lives. I am not saying this is you. I am just saying that not all smart people can do what they think they can do.

I, myself, have exceeded in MT, but not because I am a brain child. I just have an inherent brain cell that has a knack for it. I consider myself to be an idiot in most other areas of intellect, and I am correct. That is not to cut me down---no cheerleader talks, please---it is just a fact. I have done wonderfully well in MT and saved my money, but needed to quit because of the speech wreck, and thus, a cut in pay.

I wish you well. I don't think anyone here means to be condescending. We (as a poster said) just get frustrated when people think they can just bounce into a chair and do MT. Very best of luck.
