I have this to say. You don't say what kind of "provider," but even the most experienced nurses and other "providers" can't necessarily transcribe. Let's say you were/are an acute care nurse. Just because you can understand that Middle Eastern doctor when he's talking to you face-to-face doesn't mean you'll be able to understand his dictating style. I have literally heard them turn into a different person when talking in person. They are horrible at dictating, unclear, etc., but then turn away to talk to a colleague and they are clear as a bell. They don't converse with us like human beings. They are speed demons when they get that microphone (or whatever) next to their mouth.

Let's say you have anatomy and physiology knowledge. It doesn't mean you'll be able to understand it when it's all run together in your ear.

A 3-month course isn't going to cut it. I took a whole year of an online course at the best school in the country, and still struggled. FYI: There is no such thing as a good MT course anymore. The best one (Andrews) closed their MT doors. They are still teaching billing and coding, but closing their MT program should tell you something.

You also have to have excellent spelling and grammar skills to begin with.

The why not's list for this field goes on and on and on.

Question: Do you figure those people taking your on-line and/or catalog orders are in a big building somewhere? Check that out. Christmas is nearing, and they hire lots of people to take gift orders.
