Your degree is useless in transcription and coding as well. - You are better off doing phone work SM

like catalog sales and support, food ordering online, and such that you can likely get right now.

That's about as far as you're going to get with your degree.

You've got a lot of experienced people here telling you that transcription is NOT a viable option that you can just sit down at home and start typing. It's true.

Unless you go with general transcription like Rev.com.

By the way, how's your typing speed? It better be in the upwards of 85 WPM and 0-2 errors range. You have no transcription training at all, no MTSO is going to hire you.

Depending on what your specialty was, many people don't know anything outside their own specialty. I have Psy.D. people who have to spell the simplest drugs because they dont work with them every day and havent the slightest idea how to pronounce them correctly.

*** How about a Chinese intern who mumbles/whispers/slurs with a severe accent and you can't tell if they say atenolol or Adderall. That's going to slow you down to research it and you can't always figure it out from the context of the current report. Many times you have no past reports to look at, either. Heaven help you if you leave it blank for QA to listen and figure it out. You get docked pay for a blank, you get a condescending, degrading chewing out email of how YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT IT WAS. Heaven help you if you think you hear the right one and type it, but it wasnt the right one. Your degree wont help you at all on those. Go look at the word board, people are asking for help because they can't understand something. And you better know to cap a name brand and lower case the generic, and you need to know what they are. That's a major QA error in many cases.

If you do get in anywhere as MT, you're going to have to know the basic terminology in EVERY specialty from top to bottom of the human body. No MTSO is going to excuse you out of the work pool of difficult dictators or things that aren't your specialty. You do it all, whether you're familiar with it or not. and if you can't keep up your quality, too many blanks or too many questions? You're gone.

Talk about burning thru crucial savings, that's what you'd do with a transcription course and have nothing to show for it. One scammer who stalks this page and steals job postings for her own page has a school and her course is currently about $2500.

No, don't listen to any of us, we don't know anything. Go find sample voice files online and transcribe those with loud screaming music right behind you, a television show turned up full volume next to you, and see how well you do.
