DISAGREE!! - MT

Going from medical provider to MT absolutely CAN be done! I went from RN to MT and it wasn't that difficult at all. I found a company willing to let me test based on my medical experience (NO formal medical transcription training, just a fast typist and my knowledge as an RN). I studied the current transcription style guidelines on my own and educated myself on the company's style guidelines. I had an excellent grasp of medical language and anatomy and physiology skills. The hardest part was the actual quality of the dictation like loud talking in the background, dictating outdoors, etc., which would is difficult for ANYONE to hear, not just those without experience.

I wish people would stop equating this career to that of a nuclear physicist or something like that. Yes, it does require extensive medical knowledge, but it's not something that you can only be good at if you've taken a course and have a certificate. The MT courses and certifications are great if you don't have prior medical exposure, but prior experience in the medical field WILL help you in this field.

It's really sad what the MT jobs have become. I left the MT field earlier this year for a better paying job, but while working as an MT I had a good LPH rate and high QA scores, all without formal MT training.

If I could successfully transition from medical provider to MT, others can too. It's not as hard as everyone makes it sound.
