Another major error - new but old

Thought I was going to make it through today with no Major error but no such luck.  I typed "There are" and they heard "The"  Trust me either way the sentence says the same thing and in no way changes the meaning of the sentence so I get dinged a major error for this.  I really hope these quality people get good bonuses for these type things.  Just another major error to add to my very long list.  More in the last 2 weeks then in my entire career of being a transcriptionist over 15 years - so pathetic.  I know they sleep well at night

I am averaging 5 major errors a day now - used to be 1 or 2 a week max.

This QC thing is completely out of control. I just cannot comprehend what they think they are accomplishing with this.

I have 15 years experience and I am floored at what is happening. It is nonsensical. It has always been that if something did not change the meaning of a sentence that it was not counted as an error.

Honestly, why are they doing this?

Same here. I have never ever had this many errors. Trust me the error (if it truly is an error), I did not relisten to it but it in no way changes the meaning of the sentence at all and to be given a MAJOR error kills me. I try not to let this "crap" get to me, but when I get emails and IM's begging me to work extra I want to say why do you want me when I can't seem to produce anything but errors now????

I'm just a VR editor, so I am supposedt to get jobs fresh off the VR press, yet all day I have gotten jobs that have been pre-edited with blanks in them. What's up with that? Which prompts the question, ow many times do these jobs get proofed?

I have worked in QA, you have to report to your customers what the QA scores are. If the QA scores are low, the customer gets a discount or takes their business elsewhere.

They are DELIBERATELY causing low QA scores. It makes ZERO sense. Who is running this company, the 3 stooges?

I know that QC and QA are different but QA is also on a crazy train of errors lately. This company is setting themselves up for failure.

I have been around a long time and you NEVER count something as an error of ANY KIND if it does not change the meaning of the text.

I had not read e mails for a week and went in today and caught up. Apparently there were so many major errors last week on our team the client is now upset and asking that people be replaced.
Another funny thing that I missed since I was not paying attention, one of my errors was reversed, and I did not even contest. They reversed it themselves. HA. Guess I stopped paying attention and now they are reversing their own errors. Either way the client is now up in arms about the recent major errors all of a sudden. Oh yeah, the day after that e mail was sent another came begging for help, stating why wasn't anyone working...smh.

I try and never leave blanks and actually very rarely do. I type it through once and leave blanks if I don't get it initially and then I go back and normally can either fill them all in sometimes I might have to leave one but very rarely leave more then two. I do research things like names and cities and medicines. I still take pride in what I do, but to be marked off a major error because they claim it was The and not They are and this in no way changed the sentence meaning at all is just degrading and demoralizing to me. I am only still here because I have to have this job as I am most likely getting divorced soon and somehow am going to have to find a way to support myself which means I will have to get a second job to supplement this one as I no longer make anywhere near the money I used to. So depressing as I truly love what I do, but this company is going to be the death of me. I have a great TL and I can't blame anything on her as she tries her best but what she is up against is not fair.

I've learned something on my way out of this place. You may THINK your TL has your back and is your friend and tries to make things nice for you but better think again. They are not all they say they are. Just sayin.....

I remember in the not too distant past they were trying to improve our speed/production when more and more went to SR and we were told to not over edit little things that made no difference but ate up time, like a/an etc. Now that is probably a major error too.

That's exactly what the recruiter and trainer both told me when I started with Transcend, don't over-edit and waste a lot of time, it doesn't matter if its perfect just as long as it's close and no actual info is different.

So what's the end game with this? - Just no bonuses for MTs?

I am at a loss as to why they are doing this thing, they have to realize they are not making us "better" MTs at all. Human error happens, get over it. If you ask for our help when (presumably?) everyone has quit, how can you then rake through every single document and give us "major" errors for minor little things that we are not proud of, but certainly are not major.

Here's a question for FIESA haters (which I guess is everyone, except maybe QA/QCs who now have a major money spinner) -- what happens if you just don't respond, don't check it? Does it eventually catch up with you somehow, i.e. can FIESA force you to confess your FIESA sins and do FIESA penance, or can you just ignore it? I have been FIESA'd to death today and I really want FIESA to go away.

Also, I have been so nervous and trying to proofread and be perfect my line count has gone way down. Ironic that today I got close to 5 major points off, so my question is should I just give up the scrutiny that is obviously not working, and try to up my line count, since obviously the bonus is out of reach, or what do you advise?

Also, if your line count exceeds 10,000 per week, what happens if you get over that when you have crappy FIESA scores? You still get compensated for the extra lines but no extra $ or what? Sorry, I do not have access to this info right now as not at my work computer, plus it is exceedingly hard to find stuff about this, am I right? Any advice, inside knowledge (come on, someone must know the diabolical reason behind this), hints, tips, etc., would be great.

I have decided to go for lines over QA. I have been in trouble for both recently.

If you have poor QA, you don't get the bonus period. If you type over 10,000 lines so what, you get 0.04 cpl (all of this based on previous quarter QA). If the beginning of this quarter (the first with new QC bonus in place) is any indication, I will not be above 97% this quarter. Prior to this I was always 99+%. I find it very hard to believe that I have in the last 4 weeks become a lousy MT.

They have buried themselves in "bonuses" for both MT and QC (maybe QA). Now they have to find a way not to pay the bonus. The problem with setting the MT up to fail is that they then fail themselves in the eyes of the customers.

They are plain and simple morons. Clearly whoever is running the show has no idea how the MT biz works. MModal has been sending out daily emails about getting accounts from Nuance. MModal has it's problems but QA isn't one of them.

I think the "end game" is no more MTs in America. - I wish it was no more MTSOs... period. ;)

I have the feeling QC at Nuance and MME at MModal may be the last line of US workers.

I get some work as an MME that has gone through Indian QA and they just do not possess the skills for a company to completely off-shore the work.

They don't fire us cause they're too cheap to - pay UE. Thats why all the harrassment.

End game has to be, IMHO, to show clients how awful US MTs are (and we're too expensive too, comparatively) and then the whole kit and caboodle will be off-shored.

And then the fun will really begin. I don't know - maybe it's a sound business plan to pay 1 cent a line to a foreigner in exchange for sub-par work. Maybe clients will be okay with that. I don't think there's any question that pt care will ultimately suffer.

I'm not a rabid anti-off-shore person. I think part of the problem is that we (and the MTSOs) put ourselves in this position - for a long time we got paid *really* well with excellent benefits, in spite of the economic changes taking place in the medical field. Why did MTSOs come about in the first place? It was cheaper to cut the in-house MTs (remember those days? IBM Selectrics in a corner of Medical Records?) and go with MTSOs. MTs don't *directly* affect the patient experience (I say "experience" not pt care) - admin doesn't get pt complaints about crappy H&Ps - they get complaints about the fact that it's easier to find a unicorn than it is a nurse on the floor. Better to put the $ towards the RN/LPN/CNA/anybody, who is in sight of the pt at least, than to pay for clerical work that is, by and large, accurate but generally unseen by the pt.

It's going to fall on the providers now to actually double check the reports. They're going to have to get used to the assumption that what is in writing is not necessarily correct. I think it's a dangerous prospect in terms of pt care, but maybe it's something providers are willing to accept in the name of cost savings.

So the big question is, when they fire us all - will we get UE?

Or are they just going to minimum wage us into oblivion, picking at everything in the hopes we quit? I for one would welcome UE. I truly hope you are right and that is what they are doing. The minor crappy little mistakes I am making (which I can never see even after extensive proofing) makes me just throw caution to the wind and figure I will get just as many errors with and without proofing so what the heck. Truly, UE would be far better than this. Maybe 6 months is long enough to see if any companies remain as employers in this country if the ultimate goal is offshoring all work.

I don't try to be under 99% but with all their stupid QAing, I am. I seriously don't care. I wish they'd fire me so I could vaca for awhile and then a job that I actually like.

Well you might just get what your wishing for. I received an IM from my supervisor requesting that I do a conf. call and I was let go. They expect you to have lines but when the work is low there is no way to do that so you have MUP and if you have too much MUP then your out the door. It is going to be a stressful time, but it gives me a chance to breathe and look for another position somewhere else or decide to go back to school for management or something else. Good luck to you!

I have 3 accounts and can always find work, which is why I do not work on my days off. I simply hate what MT has become so yes, I wish they'd fire me. Good luck to you - I hope you find a better job !!

Sent to QA for assitance with blanks wsa the following: The patient was consulted by Dr. _____, oncology. They sent me a major alert claiming the dictator said "pulmonology" instead of "oncology." It was a mush mouth ESL and in the old days something like this would have just gotten you an e-mail saying something like "I know you sent this to QA for assistance and as a FYI after the blank for the doctor's name you had the wrong specialty. In this particular patient they did have lung cancer so in reality it could have been either speciality.

There is no consistency in the grading of reports.  And again I say, this is a subjective error...someone heard it, I did not and it does not matter anyway.  Doctors do not dictate complete sentences all the time. This just tops of my bad day.  I get on to check previous reports from yesterday and see 1 correction on 1 report out of all of them.  QA filled in my blank, and the error category is "major" with subcategory "not applicable."  Platform is Cornerstone.  Since when is it a major error to leave a blank for something we aren't sure about?  After listening, again, I still can't tell if it is the word QA put in or the word I thought it "might" be; hence, the blank.& ...

Compare job numbers to those jobs that come back with major errors.  Want to bet that most of those jobs we have a hard time with are the very same jobs that we are getting marked down for?  Most likely the very blank or the very problem we had is what the major error is for. ...

This is a new one to me and laughable honestly. I thought we were to spell phoenetically a doctor's name in the text if we cannot find it or verify it.  So this is what I did as usual and got a MAJOR CRITICAL ERROR for putting the wrong doc name??? WTH. Seems like they are grasping at straws now. What's the deal? I work for a company whose initials are TTS.  I was told that QA works on editing and transcribing too and QA has the ability to assign work to themselves.  In other words not only do they take work away from the MT but they can choose which work/dictators they want to do.  Isn't this a conflict of interest?   I know other companies do not allow double dipping but it was confirmed to me TTS does this and that the QA people have the ability to pick and cho ...
