Real time - Streamlining

Posted: Sep 07, 2010

What gives with that ridiculous jargon in the training video?  "Real-time doctor's list."  Gimme a break.  "Streamlining our job."  Hooha.  "Increasing our productivity."  Come on now.  We're not idiots, Q.

If that doctor's list was real time, it would be instantaneous.  I know that they meant that we would get to see a doctor's name as soon as it was updated on their end, but to call it real time is a misnomer.

How are extra keystrokes really streamlining our job?  I'll tell you how to streamline our job.  Just let us type what the doctor says without having to be distracted away from the real meaning of their dictation by concentrating on all the scut work that only helps them improve their program.  Distraction is dangerous to quality.  If they REALLY intended to help us, they'd listen to our feedback, all of it, and make changes to help US.

And by the way, did anyone catch that part in the training that says "heading text is not included in the skip marker"?  I have a hunch that our headings are not counted in the line count.

Lastly, I feel duped in that 6.1 was thrown at me without my knowledge on a new computer I was sent last month.  I was confounded with so many new things but was never warned about them.  I tried to tackle all these new changes for awhile before I contacted tech support, thinking I was doing something wrong making the computer act that way.  Why didn't they tell me before I wasted so much of my time that it was a new program?  That simply angered me.  It also angered me when I mentioned it to my CCM.  She ALSO knew about the new program, but were any of us warned about the new 6.1?  If anything, it was mentioned on the side as one of our routine upgrades.  It's anything but routine.  The whole thing was handled very unprofessionally, IMO.

6.1 upgrade - nan

Um, we got emails for quite awhile regarding the upgrade, at least I did. The only surprise for me was that it will not work with Windows 7 anymore. I have to get a Medquist computer now. What they really need to do is upgrade the program to work with modern equipment. They are really going to have problems at some point due to the program not being able to work with modern equipment. As far as without warning, (not to sound snippy) but maybe you should read your emails, I have been getting them for quite awhile regarding the upgrade.

I got 1 e-mail the day before we could upgrade - some CCMs not on the ball

geez...

Wow - nan

Wow, I was flooded with emails for quite awhile regarding the upgrade. Sorry you did not get more. Some of my emails were from CCM, some from medquist. Strange.
I got the mail on 09/01 at 5:02 pm. - No notice

I was already done with my shift, so I did not read it until 09/02. I knew nothing about the upgrade until then and then was told I had to upgrade over the holiday weekend.
me too... 09/01 from MQ, not ccm - but did get e-mail back in May
[ In Reply To ..]
about the middle of May saying that it would be released by the end of the month...

Strange that it took so long and still can't get the bugs out.
I got mine on 9/3 which is my day off - as well as 9/4
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't see the emails until logging in on 9/5 for my shift (I REFUSE to have anything to do with this place on my days off).

So I did the training and then upgraded on 9/5.

DQS 6.1 will work with Win7 - derp

An ESL Funny -- Or Not -- In Real Time

I'm taking an intermediate algebra class at my local community college.  We have an Indian instructor.  He is not fresh off the plane and is usually understandable.  He was trying to pay the class a compliment yesterday as we were doing cubed something or other and were struggling.  He said, "If you're in this class, you are short."  People in the class tried to clarify:  "We're short?"  Then somebody in the class (not me) finally interpreted wha ...

I'm Currently Doing Nearly Real-time Reports And Not A Single Dictator...

is able to finish a complete sentence without losing their thought or incessantly repeating themselves because they keep losing their place.  It's getting annoying.  I've done about a 1/2 dozen reports so far and NOT ONE has been just a normal dictation.  I'm wondering if all these doctors are unable to focus on the task at hand because of what is going on in Washington right now or if it's just a fluke.  I mean, I have never encountered anything like this ...

Is This For Real?
Apr 15, 2010

I have been on QA for at least 2 months.  The first month my TL went on vacation and when she did, I was still on full QA and all reports monitored.  I have not received any QA good or bad during this time, but when I inquired about it yesterday, I was told of at least 9 things that I keep doing wrong, and I am not good enough to let out into the work pool.  I asked for reports that I messed up and they only came up with one report that was not messed up,but a report in which I left blanks, w ...

Will The Real Sm Please Stand Up?
Sep 09, 2011

I'm getting confused.  I read a post by "sm," and she (?)  comes across as even-tempered in style and conservative in viewpoint.   I read another post by "sm," and she (?) comes across as angry and argumentative with a liberal viewpoint.   Either "sm" has a split personality or there are 2 people using the same name.  Can we clear this up so we know who we're actually speaking to? ...

Real Work?
Feb 04, 2013

Does anyone know of any smaller, family-owned transcription agencies?  I honestly don't think any of these companies who advertise are a placed you would want to call home.  I have been in transcription for many years, have tested for many of these companies and never get a call back.  So not sure what they are looking for, etc.  I guess the smaller companies have been gobbled up by the bigger companies.  ...

Are Any Of You Afraid To Go Out Into The Real World Again?
Feb 04, 2012

After my company recently dropped my account by 1-1/2 cents, I have been considering either a job switch or maybe even an inhouse hospital position but the thought of it puts me in a panic.  Has anyone else experienced that?  I have been doing this job at home for 20 years and one of the reasons I love it is I don't have to deal with the politics of a work place or people in general.  I was a vet tech before an MT so obviously I love animals and prefer being with m ...

Are Names Mentioned On MT Test To Get A Job For Real?
Dec 07, 2010

I took a test the other day to apply for an MT job and the doctor loud and clear gave the patient's name. The dictation was a consult. When the doctor mentioned the name of the hospital, I heard a beep, but when then the patient's name was stated I heard it. I hope those are fake dictations that we test on. If that was real information, I do not want to go there for help.   ...

I have been a transcriptionist for 24 years and the questions they asked for their test were so easy any student fresh out of medical secretarial school could answer. After "failing" the test, I was then routed to another site which offered classes to "enhance" my training.  Is this a real company or a scam to get you take classes? ...
