how many lines per day does your company require? - anon for now

Posted: Jun 08, 2011

I'm curious, as this year my line requirement went way up and I was told what is required is "competitive" with what other companies require. I don't believe it is, and I work constantly to meet it. I wonder if this forum will let this message stay up--seems like anything that smacks of transcriptionists working together for anything like rights gets taken down, but...

When I worked as an employee, my requirement was 1200 lines for full-time or 500 for part-time.

800 lines a day for full time at Spi.

For VR, Straight, and then together... - MR

Straight is 1100 lines a day.
VR is 1650 lines a day.
If you are doing both, there is a pro-rated system which I don't know about as right now I'm only doing straight.

What are your new requirements and how much did they go up?

We're supposed to get 1500 a day for VR and speech combined for 8 hours at TransTech.

My problem is that lately, I've been getting so much garbage that I can't get 1500 in 8 hours. Earlier this week, I transcribed for 3 hours straight and ended up with 375 lines - not even minimum wage.

Since we're not allowed to work over 40 hours, I don't see how they can possibly expect us to get the line counts with the garbage they are giving us. Besides, I don't appreciate the email telling me I'm short lines and have to make up the difference before Sunday midnight when I have, in fact, put in my required hours and technically not supposed to work overtime.

The next time I get that email (and it should be today), I'm tempted to reply with something like, "I have my hours in for the week but short total lines. I'm getting the bottom of the barrel lately - must be the nature of the beast.

thanks y'all - anon for now

Overall, this kinda confirms what I thought, which is that the place I'm working at is asking a bit much out of us. It's obviously not a scientific study, but anybody can average out the numbers given here to come up with what is "competitive" when their company starts handing them a line (pardon the pun). Not that it usually matters. This is the only industry I can think of off the top of my head where the employees are encouraged not to communicate among themselves--I guess they fear we'll get together and demand better treatment. Maybe I'm just a rabble-rouser.

Is It True That FOCUS, Only Counts Half Of Your Lines When Calculating VR Lines?
Jan 30, 2012

if you make 4 cents per line at 1000 lines a day, they really calculate it at 500 lines per day x 4 cents, making it really 2 cents per line for the full 1000.   I heard this, and I am really interested in knowing if it is true. ...

Told Nuance Was Overcharging For Lines, Now Lines Drastically Reduced
May 02, 2012

My main account was a good one, and the lines were very good, mostly ER work. I have been on this account for over a year and a half now. We recently received an e-mail stating that Nuance had discovered that the line count was charging incorrectly, as instituted by them, and they had been crediting us with MORE lines than we were actually doing and overcharging the client. Now get this, they informed us that they would not make US pay it back, for their mistake, but that our new lines would re ...

TransTech Lines - Required Hours But Are Short Lines?
Jun 10, 2011

What do you do when you have the required hours but are short lines? I got an email that I need to "make plans to have my shortage made up." The only problem is that I'm up to date with my hours for the pay period so far. The other problem is that I have plans Saturday night and Sunday (both being my scheduled time off) that don't include TransTech. It's getting harder and harder to defend this company when they can't hold up their end of the agreement and continually ...

Why Would A Co. Require IE 7.0 Instead Of 8.0?
May 12, 2010

I got a call today from HR at Sten-Tel (Springfield) saying that they were getting ready to make me an offer.  (Would consider taking it on only in addition to what I'm already doing due to hearing issues about lack of work.) I was, however, told that having Internet Explorer 8.0 was a problem and that I would need to uninstall this version and downgrade to IE 7.0.  I've never heard of this before and was wondering why the newer, more current version of IE would be a problem ...

Does Command Health Require A Set Schedule?
Jan 19, 2014

I have a friend that worked at MD-IT prior to the Command Health buyout. She is still with the MD-IT division (or whatever they call it now), is employee status but is able to work whenever she wants as long as she meets line requirement and doesn't go over 40 hours a week. Is this the way it is across the board for Command Health? I thought I needed an IC job for flexibility, but if I could have that flexibility as an employee that would be great. Time Outside Production - Isn't It Illegal To Require This?
Feb 13, 2014

New to Nuance, swallowed up when they acquired my employer at the end of 2013.  I see they really expect you to spend a lot of time doing things outside your schedule, training, reading manuals, etc.  Other than a flat rate for installing and learning software (20 minutes, actually took twice that), they don't offer to pay for all this extra time.  Seems excessive.  Has anyone tracked this extra time and filed a complaint with DOL about it?  Or tried to clock into W ...
