Anyone know of a company that doesn't require testing?

Medict did not test me - But...

...I had 16 years of acute care experience, and I think they could tell by talking to me and my resume that theyh didn't need to test me. I'm glad of that, those tests are just nerve-wracking.

curious - why

I'm always curious about people who want hired without testing. I would think if you have the skills, you'd have no issue testing to get a job.

This is why - Ann

When you have 12+ years experience and just need to pick up PT work, taking tests over and over gets extremely tiresome...

Not to mention the innumerable "bugs" in the - testing programs (nm)

Here, here! Testing is SO time-consuming! - MissTrans

I've been in the applying process for over a week now and it's been taking me an average of 5 hours to complete the resume submission, questions, and take the tests! I have almost 10 years of experience and am no dummy when it comes to transcription OR PC knowledge. I even had to purchase a foot pedal JUST to take a test for one company (with whom I'd worked prior)! Hello? I'm unemployed, so where did I find this money? I still have the box to return this foot pedal just in case I don't get this position. As a matter of fact, one MTSO's test audio came up in QuickTime (not ExpressScribe as it was supposed to) so I had to go back and forth from one internet screen to another, transcribing a few words at a time and then listening to the audio in another screen. This simple 5-minute consult test dictation ended up taking me 3 hours to complete! Ridiculous! Glad THAT'S off my chest. Good luck to all you diligent applicants!

Too much nonsense for so little gain - see msg

I used to feel as you do, and in fact, would be suspect of anyone who didn't want to test. I have changed my ways some.

I have realized that if (after my 15 years of acute care experience) I were conducting a phone interview with a potential hiree, I would know within 5 minutes if they truly had the kind of experience and good quality they protrayed on their resume--if they could even pull of a good resume. It would take 3 or 4 questions from me, the interviewer, to know.

Plus, my subject line. I agree with the poster who said too many bugs! What an annoyance, the formatting, the foot pedal issues, etc., etc., the up-in-the-air instructions as to how to handle verbatim grammar issues, discrepancies, etc.

I tested for one place who instructed us to have the physical exam formatted like this:

PHYSICAL EXAM;

HEENT, ...

NECK, ...

Seriously? Do I really type it that way, or they trying to see if I know how to use common sense?

How Many Lines Per Day Does Your Company Require?
Jun 08, 2011

I'm curious, as this year my line requirement went way up and I was told what is required is "competitive" with what other companies require. I don't believe it is, and I work constantly to meet it. I wonder if this forum will let this message stay up--seems like anything that smacks of transcriptionists working together for anything like rights gets taken down, but... ...

Doesn't Company Hiring IC Need SS And 1099 Filled Out?
Sep 26, 2012

Hi, I am new to the independent contractor thing, but shouldn't a company that has "hired" you as an independent contrator have your SS and a 1099 filled out by you?   Just wondering as it seems to me this is necessary and since it is not being done, it makes me wonder about this company that much more, espcially since others have stated they have not been paid by this company.   I guess if they are not planning on paying me they don't need a 1099 or SS# huh?  ...

Company Testing.......
Jan 07, 2010

I tested for a company who stated that my skills were not up to their requirements, which I find very difficult to believe, as I have been in this business for 10 years, nonetheless, I am beginning to wonder if some of these companies are not scamming us.  I was required to transcribe four different files with the shortest one being 6 minutes and the longest 12 minutes, but apparently, they were not good enough.  Again, I am baffled as I kept all the files I did and I did not find one ...

Nuance Testing Compared To Other Company Tests, Ie Softscript.
Mar 21, 2012

I have taken so many tests lately with probably dozens of companies.  I am wondering how you feel about Nuance tests and if it is harder or easier than the other companies.  I personally thought Softscript test was kind of hard, compared with Nuance.  Some of the transcription audio files were a little hard with mumbling and fast talking dictators, but really not bad when compared to others.   Hopefully I might be hired with Nuance, so no more testing, I hope.  I ha ...

Why Would A Co. Require IE 7.0 Instead Of 8.0?
May 12, 2010

I got a call today from HR at Sten-Tel (Springfield) saying that they were getting ready to make me an offer.  (Would consider taking it on only in addition to what I'm already doing due to hearing issues about lack of work.) I was, however, told that having Internet Explorer 8.0 was a problem and that I would need to uninstall this version and downgrade to IE 7.0.  I've never heard of this before and was wondering why the newer, more current version of IE would be a problem ...

Does Command Health Require A Set Schedule?
Jan 19, 2014

She is still with the MD-IT division (or whatever they call it now), is employee status but is able to work whenever she wants as long as she meets line requirement and doesn't go over 40 hours a week. Time Outside Production - Isn't It Illegal To Require This?
Feb 13, 2014

New to Nuance, swallowed up when they acquired my employer at the end of 2013.  I see they really expect you to spend a lot of time doing things outside your schedule, training, reading manuals, etc.  Other than a flat rate for installing and learning software (20 minutes, actually took twice that), they don't offer to pay for all this extra time.  Seems excessive.  Has anyone tracked this extra time and filed a complaint with DOL about it?  Or tried to clock into W ...
