WMX - working outside of normal shift - anon

Posted: Jun 26, 2011

I am thinking for right now I don't really care if I "fudge" on my shift a little here and there.  First they offer OT, then no work.  I almost think it might be better when we are under different management.  HOWEVER, I still have not seen anything on the acquisition other than what we were originally told.  How odd!!

Makes you afraid to go with any of the smaller companies.  Who knows who will be eaten up next.

I will say I was an old YOG employee and when MQ bought us my shfit/pay/work did not change at all for almost 2 years.  Some other things changed, but I could easily live with those.

Let's hope this goes as well, but from what I am reading on here  I am dubious.

Yes, cheat and lie about timekeeping because you are upset with - your employer. Such integrity.

My job is a business arrangement. SM - Another WMXer

The arrangement is to do the work for the pay I signed on for, and I've given this company good value as my part of it. I did not agree to allow myself to be abused and cheated.

Right on! Integrity goes both ways! - sick of the abuse

Everything is always the MT's fault and the MT's loss. Not enough work? Our problem. Lost our primary? Our problem. They want us to (demand that we) flex at their convenience. They want us to take our hard-earned PTO at their convenience. They want to penalize US for their incompetent scheduling by taking away our insurance if we don't get in 40 hours. They deliberately schedule us for times they KNOW there will not be sufficient work to sustain us, refuse to schedule us when the work is there, and expect us to sit in front of the screen 24/7 hoping for work so we can catch a stray stat or two. They don't give a darn if we starve, go bankrupt, get ulcers, ruin our health, never have a life due to "flexing" it away, etc.

We accepted a schedule in good faith that there would be work to do. Any company with integrity would NOT overhire and force us to fight over every line. We are cheated by this daily, and our complaints fall on deaf ears. Sure, management would prefer we suck it up and be quiet and feel GRATEFUL to work harder and harder for less and less. Do they expect the same things of themselves? HAHAHAHAHAH!
MT's fault - so true

What a good summary. This field is so demoralizing and lacking in basic integrity it is amazing. The MTSOs promise the moon to potential clients, we have to jump through all the hoops to fulfill the promises for reduced pay, we have 98% to 99% quality audits hanging over our heads at all times. We are made to feel lucky if an employer offers insurance anymore, or if it will be remotely affordable. Everyone forgets that it is our comprehensive knowledge that makes the whole thing work.

Then leave. Cheating will make you the same as them. - You stay so you allow it and agree to it.

working outside of hours - ex-webbie
[ In Reply To ..]
I have already left (just very recently), but I would like to challenge your statement that working outside of agreed-upon hours is "cheating" and all should leave who do this. We have agreed-upon hours, and I stuck like glue to those hours. I received multiple NSA (no studies available) messages. We were told to check every 10 minutes to look for work. So, I am working my full 8-hour job TRYING to work. Often, I would only get 5 to 6 hours actually logged in typing (due to now work). Then I would be TOLD to FLEX to hours outside of my normal in order to make up those missed hours due to NO WORK and NO fault of mine. As a result, I often "worked" 10-12 hours in order to actually clock 8. And, if we did this and STILL couldn't make our 40 hours required, we either had to use PTO, or if we were out of PTO, then we would be converted to part time and LOSE our benefits! So how exactly is this cheating??? I would say it was the MTSO cheating US, forcing us to give up our life trying to get in enough hours so they don't kick us off benefits!

Yes, I got a clue and I left. But some may not have that option. But, it is certainly NOT cheating to try to maintain your benefit status and following THEIR instructions!
Checking for work every 10 minutes is also supposed to be PAID. - see msg

I'm pretty sure that, according to labor laws, this is called being "engaged to wait," and you are supposed to be compensated for it. See the link at the bottom of this page, especially the paragraph that starts with "According to the regulations interpreting the FLSA." It gives examples that seem to me to clearly put MTs in this situation in the category of being "engaged to wait." If so, can you imagine the wages you've been shorted so far?

PLEASE start reporting companies to the labor board and tax authorities if/when they break laws. They and/or their lawyers certainly know the laws.

Working 2nd Shift With Kids
Apr 29, 2013

I'm considering a FT second shift position with a company, but I would like to get some input from others who work 2nd shift on how they are able to do it with a husband and small children at home.  I am currently working first shift while husband is at work and kids in school but have a lot of days with low or no work.  Just wondering how you are able to stay focused and take care of regular chores/duties around the house in the evenings and still work and maintain a decent line ...

I Wish Shaw Could Be Working My Shift Today.
Aug 29, 2013

I have worked so hard all day, have next to nil inactive time, and still, barely the minimum line count. I would especially like him to do the last report with the horrible scratchy sound with the doctor alternatively blasting out my ears and not talking into the phone, and the horrible output. Ha, ha - spend a day in our shoes. What a challenge :) I doubt he is up for the challenge, though. ...

Normal ROS & PEs
Jan 26, 2013

When a dictator asked that you insert a normal ROS or PE, then dictates "for the respiratory put ..." I often get dictation that contradicts what remains in the normal template but the dictators do not instruct to delete the rest of that heading. Sometimes this is an easy fix, for example if you know they complain of SOB, then you delete that portion. Other times we can't possibly know how the "normal" differs for this particular patient. It's time consuming to keep flagging these for ...

Mistakes In Normal Dictations
Jan 20, 2010

At my company (a smaller one) there are a lot of mistakes in the normal dictations that the doctors request.  The way they are created in the first place is the transcriptionist types up the report and sends it to QA saying the doctor would like to use this in the future for his normal, but I don't think they get reviewed by QA.  I think they just get created the way they are.  So if it was a right eye, the word right is there all the way through it.  If a word is misspe ...

RMT Exam Normal Lab Values ?
Sep 05, 2011

I am preparing for the RMT exam. How much detail of the normal lab values do I need to know? Do I have to memorize all the normal values at the least? I find that impossible. Do I have to know what test will diagnose for which disease or particular study? For example, do I have to know that white blood cells are involved in the CBC test or that PSA stands for prostrate specific antigen and is a cancer marker? How much information about the drugs do I need to know?  What kind of lab valu ...
