You don't need a Bachelor's Degree to become a coder. You just need to be able to pass your certification exams. Check and make sure if the AAPC program will also qualify you to take the CCS in addition to the CPC. Having both will make you more employable.

If you want to get your Bachelor's in HIM, do your research, because some of these programs are overly expensive. I've heard really good things about Western Governor's University.

You could look into an HIM systems analyst career as well.
