We were told to proofread our VR work after finishing... - blondie

Posted: May 23, 2010

because the acct was having more errors than it should.  That really cuts into your lines.  Who all of you proofreads, etc and do you think it is necessary on VR?  It is very hard to make any lines when going back over the document a second time.

Depends - sm

What kind of errors are being made? If they are things like formatting I always do a once over on every report, making sure the text is in the correct spot, making sure I have the correct info necessary (Do OPs or Consults need a DOS with the text, does the provider/surgeon name need to be in the text, etc). Also just to look for any obvious erros such as an expander that didn't expand (Tp instead of the patient) or incorrectly expanded, things that are easy to see without listening again. If it is things like drug names or lab values that are consistently wrong it wouldn't hurt to jump to those sections and listen to them again. All this could take as little as 3-5 minutes per report or less. I think making sure your document is correct is worth that. Better than failing an audit or losing the account because of errors.

This is why - sm

I do not believe those who post upwards of 400 lph consistently could pass an audit at 98% or higher. NO SR program is that good. Those MTs have been instructed by their MTSOs to let a lot of things slide that really should be edited.

I have a friend who works for Etransplus - doing transcription only

on a VA account and she says she doesn't spend any time on figuring out blanks because they never QA anything and nothing ever comes back to her.
What do you mean never QA anything - ??
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you mean they don't do audits on MTs? because I work for eTrans and any blanks I leave are filled in by QA. You can easily go back and check work that you've left blanks in to see what the it was, or if QA could get it. If there is something that is a common blank, the QA team will send out a group-wide e-mail letting people know what those common blanks should be. They have a full QA staff

Unfortunately, I Go Back - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Unfortunately, I have found I need to go back and proof on a full listen, particularly on a really heavily edited VR. I do speed it up that second time around, though. I would say that 99% of the time, I find important errors, like a missed word or a word VR decided was correct but that I found was incorrect on a second listen. VR prejudices the ear big time, like a crazy mind game, and I don't always catch them the first time around. Funny, we're not supposed to put sounds-likes in a note for QA, because it takes the ear longer to get it, but it's okay for VR to do that.

On a really short report where dictator was dictating in a reasonably smooth manner (i.e., not backing up over his/herself ad nausem), I will just let it go after the edit without proofreading against the voice.

I do not proofread when I fully transcribe the report itself. Very few errors there. I can tell by my audits.

at MQ you must - read every word

with a fine toothed comb. It actually takes more time and more knowledge to do VR correctly. Our VR program is horrible and never learns. That is why we do not make any money on VR at MQ.

very true, in the same boat... - nm

When Do You Proofread Your Transcribed Report?
Aug 05, 2011

Hi all, When do you proofread your transcribed report?  Do you wait until you are finished or do you proofread each section when finished?  And, do you ever get faster?  I'm afraid if I wait until I'm finished I will not remember things.  Also, do you re-listen to the dictation or not?  Thanks.  Many questions.    KB.  ...

Thoughts On Taking CMT Right After Finishing RMT?
Apr 16, 2010

Just wanted to hear from some of you more seasoned MTs out there...I am scheduled to sit for the RMT exam on Monday, 4/19 and have been preparing for this since mid-January by taking a review course via M-TEC.  Several folks have advised me that rather than waiting the typical 2 years, I should consider studying to take the CMT exam immediately after passing the RMT.  My book skills are good, and I graduated from M-TEC with a fairly high GPA.  I have only been working for 2 months ...

Finishing Andrews Earlier?
Mar 20, 2015

I see that on the Andrews website, the average time to finish the coding course is 12 months. I have lots of time to devote to the course, and it would be nice to finish it earlier. Has anyone here finished the course earlier? How long did it take you? How many hours a week did you devote to it? ...

How Long From Finishing Training To Start?
Jun 19, 2012

I finished training.  They knew I was going to be working for a couple of weeks.  Still have not heard from supervisor. I was told last week I was now in the hands of my "supervisor" to contact with questions. I received nothing from any supervisor, and today I was told on the live training class to go to my supervisor and begin working immediately. I have sent several e mails to find out when I actually begin working, wondering why I have not heard from this so-called supervisor who ...

Have You Ever Been Told This And If So------
Apr 09, 2010

what would you do about it.  My TL repeatedly tells us to get off the system when the work volume is low because we are taking food out of other MTs mouths because they cannot feed their families or pay their bills because they need to get at least 20,000 lines per pay, but they cannot do that if we stay on the system, and we need to have compassion for them and get off the system so the ones who need it the most can pay their bills.   Even if our line count is not met, they need i ...

That you can't work on any computer besides a Medquist computer?  I don't get along my CCM.  We don't like each other.  I wanted to load my programs on my laptop so I could work when I was away from home, and I was told that was not possible.  I said I had done it in the past.  I was told, not anymore.  Support backed him on it.  But here lately I have heard people talking about working at Starbucks!!!!  That even during training they ...

New To ASR/Told Had To Switch To ME By 07/01
Jun 30, 2010

I am sweating this out, as everyone else has, and it is not working for me.  The rules are too vague, the training insufficient, and I am struggling with doing whatever I can to get through the report and trying to correct "correctly" - whatever way that really is, there is no explanation.  I don't know when to use F11.  I gave ASR a 4-month try 4-5 (?) years ago when it first was implemented, and see similar non-recognition issues, similar heading issues, and probably I am ...

I Have Been Told Nothing About The 15 Minute Pay
Mar 19, 2013

I was not told anything about taking 15 minutes when no work available.  I have read something to the effect of taking 15 minutes pay when no work available.  I'm confused.  Why hasn't my TCM told me about this?  I work on new acct, haven't been with MModal that long, but shouldn't I have been told about this as I ran out of work and was told to just clock out if no work.  ...

Told Dr Complaining
Sep 12, 2013

We were told recently a doctor was complaining about the quality of our reports.  I thought that strange as he has no accent and speaks very clearly.  I just did a report of his and his complaints are....do not use 1, 2, 3, etc., spell out one, two, three, etc.., do not leave off THE patient and just type patient at the beginning  of a sentence..do not leave off LABORATORY IS AS FOLLOWS and just type LABORATORY, type what I said.  I said..right on, doc, my sentiments exactly. ...

Doc Just Told Me To Hold My Water.
Feb 11, 2010

He started dictating an Op note and then got confused.  While trying to figure out what the heck he was doing, he said "hold your water." Maybe I'm just really bored today, or maybe my sense of humor is out of whack, but I started laughing hysterically at that! When the doc actually talks directly to me instead of just dictating (unless they are being a jerk) it's nice because you realize that he or she knows there is someone listening....even if they're telling you to ...

An MT Supervisor Told Me (Regarding MTs Who Aren't Doing Well)
Mar 12, 2010

An MT supervisor told me that when they aren't happy with an MT's work because they aren't following instructions or are getting sloppy, they just take them off the schedule. Sometimes they do it gradually and other times leave them with little or no work. They keep the work for the MTs who are doing the best job with the least fuss. Interesting. ...
