Well, the reason for this is that they made us train the techs in India and we just got a call that most of the US techs have been laid off.

I hope MModal gets BLASTED tomorrow at the town meeting with hard hitting questions. I know they pick and choose, but someone needs to blindside them and tell them how we REALLY feel! This is a disgrace. If they are so eager to give work to India, then maybe they sure just move there too and give us management who cares about the USA!

They should MOVE to - Digusted as well

India if they love using Indian workers so much. It's one of the filthiest countries on Earth.

good time for this reminder - if you lose your job because of foreign trade

[ In Reply To ..]
If you lost your job because of increased foreign imports or shifts in production to foreign countries, you may be eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). You should ask your local Workforce Solutions office staff about eligibility for TAA as soon as possible because there are time limits on eligibility, training, and benefits. TAA benefits may include retraining, Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC), job search and relocation allowances, and weekly benefits called a Trade Readjustment Allowance (TRA). If eligible, you may request TRA benefit payments only after you receive all of your regular unemployment insurance benefits in a benefit year.

And that is the gift they got from MM Santa. - nm

if you look at the current layoffs from all employers, you can see the pattern...Its simply cheaper to ship the work overseas HIPAA be damned.

How is something that has been happening for a decade Obama's fault? Get a grip. NM - anon

Obama tried to stop offshoring - your Republican friends kept it in effect

put the blame where it belongs.

During 2008-2010 Congress when he and the Democrats had control of Congress why didn't he do anything? Apparently, it was not a very high priority.
Funny, looks like he did - tired of politics and blame

Everyone seems to think that the person holding the presidential office position says what will or will not happen. People forget that though they would like to see certain things happen....it doesn't always go their way. For example: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/28/gop-blocks-democrats-jobs-outsourcing-bill/

If you know how businesses and how the gvt works you would understand..Obama has put in MORE gvt regulations to reatrict business, research it...Thus a bunch of companies, probably this one included, were holding on till the election to see what happened..the tax code is not friendly in the United States anymore, and in our case, they can make up the difference by cheap labor overseas. And Obama did not do anything to stop shipping jobs overseas research dont look at his campaign commercials, they are all lies
if they have to offshore - they should pay a penalty
[ In Reply To ..]
what's to stop all American jobs going overseas? This has nothing to do with commercial ads.

Tech Support And The MT
May 12, 2010

Ok I have a question for any of you who have been in the field for a while or even new to the field like myself. I have just finished training recently and I have been searching for a job and I was offered a contract postion at a decent little company(*Name withheld) which I am in the process of considering, however I am hearing that this company is thinking of not offering full time tech support and expecting me to install and configure my own software and if I have a problem with my install th ...

So I Was On The Phone With Tech Support...
Aug 10, 2012

and I mentioned that the ASR in DQS 7 is BAD, much worse than before. He said, "yes, I know - it's because the system has to relearn from scratch all the dictators, and it's going to be a while before it gets as "good" as it was before." He was just matter-of-factly telling me this. No skin off his nose (or his salary). My chaps my hide is that the MTs have to take a pay hit during all of this "relearning" time. And that is not even to mention all the other DQS 7 glitches....A ...

Tech Support International???
Nov 15, 2012

This might be old news, but I don't call tech support much. I called them a couple of days ago, and the automated voice told me it may be international. I am pretty sure the woman was from India. Last year, I used to only get local boys on the phone for that sort of thing. How long has this been going on? I wonder what sort of impact it had on our tech support guys. ...

Call To Tech Support
Dec 16, 2014

I called tech support and was asked for my name and employee number.  I always start with the number, and then tell them my name because I know they already have it up on the screen.  Surprisingly, tech guy didn't sound foreign.   I give him my 6-digit employee number at a regular human speed.  He asks me to give it to him again, so I do, a little slower this time.  He then says, "Could you slow down a little."  Sure, I give it to him a 3rd time.  Ser ...

Companies With Accounts That Use ExText--and Have Decent Tech Support?
Feb 15, 2010

Does anyone have any recommendations on companies with accounts that use ExText--and have decent tech support?  Yeah, I know, I' asking for the moon.  But I've been sitting here screaming for hours now bc the techs and managers for the umpteenth time have left me dead in the water and don't care.  I'm taking out my umpteenth payday loan to get by and it's just not working for me anymore.  (I've also worked on NCH software.) Can't Tech Support "equate" The Sound Volumes?
May 17, 2015

Do you think Tech Support could adjust the volumes so that the whispered jobs are amplified and the loud jobs are toned down, so there is like one set loudness?  I just had the one guy that you have to turn all the way up because he is across the room.  Of course I forgot at the end that I had the volume all the way up, so the next job literally blew me out of my chair.  I jump up about 4 inches every time this happens.  My heart is still pounding and my knees still shaking. ...

Pay For The Indian MTs
Dec 01, 2011

There was a question about MTs pay in India. It is generally dependent on the line count and quality. Direct upload MT transcribing 800 lines per day - Rs. 1.2 (nearly 3 cents)  - 22 working days - Rs. 21,120 (around $600  per month) - greater than 98% accuracy (supposed to be) Only professionals like engineers, doctors, some software guys, etc. get more salary than this. Things are a little different in CBay (Medquist) India.  Irrespective of experience, the MT ...

Indian Vs US QA On ASR
Feb 05, 2012

I just saw a post from last month wondering about what the accuracy level is that Indian MTs have to maintain. On Editscript, expected accuracy is 99% and tolerated accuracy is 98.5%. If your job is marked by QA  as below 98% accuracy, you do not get paid for that job.  Critical/grave/major/minor errors are all assessed per job and factor into accuracy calculations. If you have more than 5 major errors per 2000 lines, you lose the right to work on an account.  Most Indian MTs prod ...

Indian MTs
Jul 03, 2012

Would someone please explain to me exactly why there are so many people in India that can to American transcription? How in the heck are they so proficient in the English language? Something We Workers-at-home Need To Consider...
Jan 21, 2010

when I started telecommuting full time.It finally penetrated my consciousness a couple of weeks ago that every year, when it came time to renew my auto insurance policy, I used to get a call from a local agent, and we'd go over the policy, making sure there were no changes. They Want Third Shift Workers, But....
Dec 12, 2011

So sorry for the rant, but I am so tired of companies wanting us all to cover third shift, but don't want to pay anything extra when we do and if they do it's something like a quarter of a penny, what in the world is that?   I know I shouldn't complain, but this shift is HARD to work, especially when you have little ones.  Just a little frustrated tonight, and I know there are people who have it worse than I do, but I don't have anywhere else to vent.  Thanks ...
