when I started telecommuting full time.
It finally penetrated my consciousness a couple of weeks ago that every year, when it came time to renew my auto insurance policy, I used to get a call from a local agent, and we'd go over the policy, making sure there were no changes. One of the questions was always how many miles did I drive to and from work each day, along with the current odometer reading, and the estimated number of miles driven each year.
I haven't gotten one of those calls in years. And for the last 2 years or so, my commute has been about 20 feet, and does not involve starting the car.
So I called the insurance company yesterday. The guy at the other end of the phone was rather astonished that my 5-year-old car has just under 31,000 miles on it.
He made some changes to my policy to reflect my current driving habits, and now I'm going to be paying over $200 less per year for my car insurance.
As I said... I wish I'd thought of this 2 years ago.
So... if you're working at home, and you haven't talked to your car insurance people lately, you might want to give them a call and see if you can save some money because you're not driving as much as you used to.
