Why do MTSOs require weekend coverage for every one of their accounts? I have 2 and have work up the yin yang during the week but come Saturday, I'm watching paint dry. My MTSO requires 1 weekend day, at least 4 hours. I changed my weekend shift TWICE to work during the "busy" dictation times and I'm still NJA. Now that it's getting nicer outside, I've got plans and wanna have a life again. The higher ups get off every weekend, why can't we, or at least rotate? I don't really mind working Saturday b/c the hubby works every Saturday anyway, but at least he's making money. Honestly, most Saturdays I have nothing after 2 p.m. if I'm lucky and while I'm waiting for work during that time, I clean my house. Dishes, laundry, vacuuming, etc...DONE! I just think it's unfair that we have to work weekends when there is no work (and can't ever take a whole weekend off even with using PTO and making up the hours during the week), it's still 4 hours minimum. GRRR.

If you are an employee and are required to be there for the 4 hours, you should be paid at least minimum wage. If you are an IC, why can't you just say, "no work available, I'm out of here", unless you really prefer to just stick around for the 4 hours and be done with it, as it may be the path of least resistance.

The 4 hours mandatory weekend coverage sounds like my former employer that starts with an O? When there was no work, I would give it a couple NJAs and then I was done. I refused to sit and wait for nothing. They never questioned it and I was never penalized for anything. You might want to give that a try. I was IC, so I don't think it really mattered. As long as I attempted, they could see it and if there was NJA, everything was fine.

I am employee status with company name "A". I was told this upon hire that 4 hours minimum a weekend is required. The only way I can have off or take off is to switch hours and work earlier Sat a.m. or switch days and work later Sun p.m. Even if I used 4 hours PTO or "flexed my time and came back later" I would still have to put in 4 hours, even though I could easily work an extra hour everyday during the week instead and then not worry about NJA Saturday. It blows big time. My former MTSO was IC and I did that alot, just sent an IM saying NJA, check back later. Employee status sucks when it comes to that. But on a good note, we are allowed to change our schedule twice a year so I plan on changing my Sat hours again when the time comes back around. I figure working 8 to noon on Sat is my 4 hours, I'm done for the rest of the weekend and if I'm busy then great, if not then I put in my minimum requirements and see ya Monday! :-)

Why are we always expected to work extra and catch up on overdue work on the weekends that builds up because there's not enough coverage? I also was concerned about the statement in the handbook indicating that even as PT we had to put in an 8 hour day on the weekend. I work every weekend, and since Christmas there has been little to no work on the weekends. Perhaps I should know the answer but I do not. What is the deal with the move to EMR? Is it government mandated? I just picked up a good side job transcribing for a cardiology group in my community and it's projected to last only until they go to EMR..the move isn't happening too quickly...are there penalties if they don't move to EMR? Anybody enjoying the mandatory overtime. Yea funny how we are on mandatory overtime and then get an email that states that if you run out of work, you are required to email them and flex your time and can only make it up after 5 p.m. So again, you are required to check for your work throughout the day and if there is no work, sorry for your luck and if you want to be "lucky" enough to be employed w/ Nuance, you will then have to sign in and work on your off shift to make up your hour ...

In my state, they are required by law to pay. I called the labor board to verify. By law, they have to pay if you are a non-exempt employee. I can't file a complaint until the training is completed, but I can do it online the same day as I complete the training. I am curious to know if all this overtime every week is mandatory or not. MY AM asks for overtime on a daily basis and wants commitments for the week. I have been doing it, but am to the point where I just dont want to anymore, I have things in my life that I need to do or want to do instead of spending MY free time always working, working, working. I was told by someone who attended a recent ICD-10 academy (for trainers) that the OIG is requiring all (current) coders to be certified by the October, 2013, ICD-10 implementation date. I am aware of the OIG's compliance guidelines, but nowhere in that document do I find anything about mandatory certification.
