Just wondering. Nuance bought out my old company a while back, and I have always worked Monday through Friday. Now all of a sudden they say we HAVE to work either Saturday or Sunday EVERY WEEK. My question is, if I had said no to the weekend as I was hired Monday-Friday, could they have fired me?

But in my state yes they can. The same thing happened to me recently, but not with Nuance. Maybe try suggesting a rotation for your account grouping.

you would have to abide by the new company's rules. I have been in that situation where I was required to work 1 weekend day. Many of the MTSO's make that a requirement since so many MT's do not want to work weekends. That makes it fair for everyone. But I do not know if the labor board can help, I didn't try, I needed the job.

Yes, they can terminate you if you refuse to work the schedule. That's the problem with MT, people wanted to work Bankers hours! If you wanted to work M-F you should have chosen another profession. The industry standard is Sun-Thu or Tu-Sat.

They wanted to change my schedule after 11 years from Mon-Fri to Mon-Thur and a Saturday. That is not a norm and definitely has nothing to do with banker's hours - has to do with what you were hired to do. Period. Also, they did not call it firing - they called it me "resigning". Didn't happen that way. Full of BS.

If the employment is at-will, they can fire you for just about anything they wish. Some states may have more protections, so it may be worthwhile to check your state. It may also be worthwhile to find something else that has hours more suited to your needs/preferences. There seem to be very few M-F shifts available in the MT world.

Was not "fired". I told them I could work my scheduled shift. They then replied that they accepted my "resignation". Makes no sense in my world.

Unfortunately, at will or right to work, they do have the right to change your schedule.

Only if you have a union to protect you would that come into play.

Re: Not working the new offered schedule and they 'accept your resignation.' I'd see an attorney about that IF you have a signed contract with somebody's name from the company that states your schedule.

What they will do is state that nobody by that name every worked for them.

Is there anything positive about working for Nuance? What's it like working on the eScription and Dictaphone ExText platforms? What are your average line counts on those platforms? I can average 400+ lph working on a clinic account, but I get to use lots of word expanders and templates, it's all straight typing as well. Whoever is even thinking of trying to work for Nuance Transcription, should think again! They are always running out of work and pay sucks big time! They have a new pay system where you are docked for almost everything! You have to meet 99% quality, which is no problem, as you should be meeting that anyway, but then they check your reports, always short ones and if they find an error, especially a major one, that docks your score way down, which in turn docks you pay, plus they then take y ...

25 years ago, I had an hourly wage of $11.50 (before I got into transcription), while the minimum wage was $3.35. So I was making 3x minimum wage. Why do MTSOs require weekend coverage for every one of their accounts? I have 2 and have work up the yin yang during the week but come Saturday, I'm watching paint dry. My MTSO requires 1 weekend day, at least 4 hours. I changed my weekend shift TWICE to work during the "busy" dictation times and I'm still NJA. I work every weekend, and since Christmas there has been little to no work on the weekends.
