TT mandatory training - ttmt

Posted: Jun 10, 2011

In my state, they are required by law to pay.  I called the labor board to verify.  By law, they have to pay if you are a non-exempt employee.  I can't file a complaint until the training is completed, but I can do it online the same day as I complete the training.  They (labor board) also advised that I keep emails and attach them to the complaint.  Unfortunately, it could take up to a year to get the money - my state is sloooow in resolving issues.

Even still, my time is not free.

Shame on you TransTech.

Amen - to that (nm)

Mandatory Training Pay - AnonTTer

[ In Reply To ..]
I called as well and was told the same thing. I was also told if I am already scheduled the day the training is done and it puts me over 8 hours, they will also have to compensate for OT. Keep detailed notes of your time spent on this training. I hope you, and everyone else who reads this, follows through with filing a claim. Who knows what they will "mandate" next without pay if we don't stick up for ourselves this time.

It seems to me that 150 years ago - Old and Tired MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Being forced to work without pay was called "slavery"-- so why is it any different now?

because we never stand up for ourselves - cc

If there's a union for this industry, I don't know what it is. These companies do NOT want us to even know each others' names. Whenever anyone here suggests we get together on something, the board removes it, suits jump on here and tell us we're lying, or something similar happens. When you are working 7 days a week, it's hard to find time to get together on this stuff, anyway. It's an endless cycle, ain't it?

maybe if no-one takes the test they will - get the message

If everyone there just doesn't take it, what will they do, fire everyone?

What training? Email? I never got an email. LOL

Unreal. I like how their 'friend' nuance has a program, again. - another/anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I got the email also about how they are partiacipating in the 'on-going' training? BIG companies pay for training and keeping their people updated. SO, so much time on the job and no pay. No pay for difficult doctors, difficult reports, difficult line counting and now training with maybe 60 minutes and no compensation. Like they advertise 10 dollars an hour for training?!! OH, Nuance makes a program faster for doctors. Why not a VR program for US to read through and then WE get our 4 cents for the lines. Will this break the company? Listen, you have to do it or then they can say insubordinate. How horrible! Make time in your schedule! Can we claim it as charity?

Do you guys still have to do 2 timesheets, too? I also thought it was... - ndmt

[ In Reply To ..]
pretty bold to make MTs beta-test software for someone without any kind of compensation. I had a lot of unpaid time spent each pay period submitting 2 timesheets so they could decide if the new line counting software was accurate. I could see double checking for a couple of pay periods, but this went on for over a year.

It was that kind of thing along with being instructed to read certain e-mails before or after your shift that made those whole "are you actively working" inquiries really annoying. I was always actively working on something but getting paid for it - not so much.

Yes, only now the MTM is higher than the ES.(sm) - Strange

[ In Reply To ..]
If they are switching over to the MTM as promised, it's better. If not, it's worse. Now if there is a "no dictation" on ES, it doesn't count at all on the Alt-X - it is a zero (0)

MT rounds off? What does that mean though? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Makes you wonder about 2 line count programs, and which one would you use if it meant more money for YOU? Of if it did not give YOU a bigger cut and you had to buy the program, then keep figuring out how to balance it so that it finally is in your best interest. And how much trust is in Nuance for their big CEOs who get mega bucks for selling their program? I am sure none of them are MTs are they? OH, mandatory. Can't wait to make time for mandatory. Maybe when there is no work on Sunday at the end of the pay period.
Exactly? Don't know. On the Alt-X count, before, (sm) - Strange
[ In Reply To ..]
if it was a no dictation, it put a 1 there. Now it puts 0. No biggee, of course, but just makes you wonder. I was told that the MTM is the one they are going to eventually, as soon as they get the bugs worked out, but that was a long time ago. I was told that it will keep track of our PTO time as well, which would be a good thing. That info should be at out fingertips, whenever we want it. Sometimes it helps to plan things to know exactly what you have. I keep track of it, but you never know if it jives with their count. Just my opinion, of course, and just for the record, I have always been one of TT's biggest cheerleaders. Not so much lately.
Timesheets - kibbles
[ In Reply To ..]
The new program started testing about 3 years ago. The line counts never matched with present program. I believe that the person who wrote the program and supposed to be working on the "bugs" went onto different projects. Two timesheets is ridiculous. I keep track of PTO....it NEVER jibes with what TT says it should be. Even a canned payroll program would take care of that. If the MTs at TT were as incompetent as the IS people, they would be run out of business.
I have 2-3 shifts a week with no work, so thats when I plan to do mine - Refuse to do this on my personal time
[ In Reply To ..]
I may have to hustle a little faster (when/if there's work) to make my lines, but I read/respond to company emails and will do this training during my designated shift. Granted, I won't get paid, but I refuse to break all labor laws by doing WORK business on PERSONAL time. Don't know what part of that they don't get, but TT is becoming increasingly difficult to work for. If not for the benefits (which I expect to lose any time due to lack of work anyway), I'd walk in a heartbeat and go full-time with my IC position which pays a heck of a lot better and is very low maintenance and no bureaucratic baloney.

I've been doing it for a couple of years now. /nm - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't mean to be snarky, but if I don't do it, I don't get paid. It's not like it's optional for me to submit a timesheet via MT Monitor. It is optional for you? Maybe I don't understand your "why" question. ?
anon - n bits
[ In Reply To ..]
Get as snarky as you wish. I refused to do 2 timesheets as it was ridiculous. I got my pay. I know of another who was threatened with losing her insurance because she wasn't getting the lines....because.... I'm sure you guessed it....THERE WAS NO WORK. She didn't lose her insurance.

Enough is enough. You have to draw the line somewhere. You teach people how to treat you. Asking people to be on conference calls or training sessions for no pay is WRONG. Asking people to take the time to fill out 2 timesheets because they cannot figure out which one to use is WRONG.

Offering incentives to help with TAT and then telling the MT she doesn't qualify for the incentive because line quota not met......again, because of no work.......is WRONG.

As long as people are willing to be walked over, they will do it.

And yes, you do not need to tell me if I am unhappy to move on. I was and I did. Sad to see a good company go so bad.
n bits - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't mean to offend with the "snarky" comment. What I meant to say was that "I hope you don't think I'm being a smart aleck because I don't intend to be." I'm sorry if you took it that I was being testy.

I'm probably not far behind you with my decision to move on. I agree that it's sad to see a good company go so bad. I beginning to wonder if I'm cursed. The last 2 companies I worked for started good and then bad (buyouts, etc.). Number 3 will be TransTech.
I believe some of the issues you mention are not simply WRONG but - are illegal as far as the DOL is concerned
[ In Reply To ..]
When working in-house, our supervisor tried to tell us we had to do the HIPAA training, read and respond to emails, etc., BEFORE or AFTER our shift. We were paid hourly. After telling the department tattle-tale that I believed such a request was illegal, that ALL company business is to be done while clocked in and paid in full, she went straight to the manager. After a few hours, we all suddenly received an email retracting her earlier statement and assuring us we would indeed be paid. These companies (not just TT, I'm sure) will do ANYTHING to save a buck, even when it probably goes against everything the DOL dictates.

So, if we don't take the trianing, will they fire us? - Just asking

[ In Reply To ..]
Because, if they fire MTs for refusing to do something illegal .... well, then, just think of the legal possibilities.

What do you think, TT management?

maybe - ttmt

[ In Reply To ..]
I'll probably be slammed for this, but maybe it's a backwards way of them to determine who is loyal and who is expendable.

Loyal - doesn't complain
Expendable - complains to the labor board and, all of a sudden, "sorry, but you're not a good fit for us anymore."

I guess I'm expendable because I will be filing a formal complaint the day after I take the mandatory training without pay. Their pristine record will be tarnished. That scenario would normally give them seizures, but I'm not so sure anymore. They have changed.

I used to be a huge TT cheerleader. No more.

maybe - anotheranony

[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe to some loyal = doesn't complain, but at some point when does loyal = stupid ?? Remember the squeaky wheel.

If you let them treat you as though your time is worthless, they will.

Sing it, sista...Same here - Former Cheerleader

[ In Reply To ..]
I thought it was me and was starting to take things personally, but I feel much better after reading all of the recent TT threads here recently. I guess I'm not being singled out and we're all in the same (sinking) boat.
Me, too. I thought I was in the boat all alone. - Up a creek without a paddle.

This boat seems to be floating just like the last ship I was on. Let's see??? I think that boat was called the SS Medquist.

I'm former MQ also. I left MQ when all the restructuring was going on and they were talking of pooling all the work for all MTs.

I've been happy at TT until recently. We can sure pick 'em, can't we? LOL
Without divulging too much (sm) - TTer2
[ In Reply To ..]
I can't reveal too much because I know they read these boards but I can honestly say I was perfectly content at TT until 6-9 months ago. That's when the work on my account began to disappear and I received a couple of emails that I don't think were intended for my eyes (like someone hit "reply all", if you know what I mean). I really felt I had found my "home," but lately I'm doing good to part-time lines as a full-time employee. For the past several months, I have practically chained myself to the computer 18 hour day praying to get enough lines to make the minimum AND enough to pay my bills. I finally threw in the towel and found a superb IC position which, working part-time, nets me at least twice what I net from TT working full-time, without any of the hassle and having to "bank" hours 3 days a week to make up for the lines I know won't be available the other 2 days I'm scheduled to work. Communication also hasn't been up to par lately, and, not to go all Chicken Little or anything, I just get the feeling SOMETHING is going on to which we are not privvy. Things have changed too much in the past 6 months or so that have no rhyme nor reason, and no (honest) explanations for the lack of work are forthcoming.

I'm right there with you about being happy until relatively recently; I don't think we've changed, I think TT has changed. I miss the days when there was all the work one could want and incentives were offered and there was actual communication with the account managers/leads.

Anyone know if this is reading, then answering questions? (sm) - Hate tests.

Honestly, how much can you read about confidentiality without being bored to tears. Can there possibly be any questinos at the end?

Mandatory Training Without Pay - Really?
Jun 03, 2010

Just informed that I have to take MANDATORY HIPAA training without pay because I can take it "anytime on my OWN time!"  LOL!!!  The course is 45 minutes long!  It is not enough that we have to learn account specifics "on our own time", read the constant silly e-mails "on our own time", but now we have to do mandatory training "on our own time."  Oh, yeah - and we have to pass the class with a test at the end too!  I feel like I am in a volunteer job!   Hmmmm, I ...

Mandatory Fluency Training

I'm sorry i'm just frustrated.  I don't want to go into detail should it give away my identity but there is just no time in my day TWO DAYS IN A FREAKING ROW for up to 5 hours of training.  I have worked for this company before in different capaciites and have never had to have 10 hours of training over a 2 day span.  Unbelieveable.  /rant    Thanks for letting me vent.  ...

Mandatory HIPAA Training UNPAID
Jun 04, 2010

So I read the below post about the email circulating among some employers (including mine) about this mandatory class and test for HIPAA. This is an excerpt from what I received today in my inbox:  I am getting some questions about the mandatory HIPAA class being unpaid.  Let me clarify why this is the case.  Taking the class is mandatory, but unpaid because it is a legal requirement and can be taken at your own pace, on your own time.  We are actually helping you to protect ...

Anybody enjoying the mandatory overtime.  Yea funny how we are on mandatory overtime and then get an email that states that if you run out of work, you are required to email them and flex your time and can only make it up after 5 p.m.  So again, you are required to check for your work throughout the day and if there is no work, sorry for your luck and if you want to be "lucky" enough to be employed w/ Nuance, you will then have to sign in and work on your off shift to make up your hour ...

How can a company order you to attend mandatory conference calls and mandatory HIPAA training and mandatory platform training sessions and not pay you for your time?  Every time they send an e-mail for something such as this, they refuse to pay, even for an hour of time.  They tell you these meetings and conference calls are a bonus for you, and that they are saving you money by you not having to pay for them someday (do I look like I just fell off of the turnip truck?).  They mus ...

Looks Like Mandatory CMT Credentials Soon.

Mandatory Weekends....why?

Why do MTSOs require weekend coverage for every one of their accounts? I have 2 and have work up the yin yang during the week but come Saturday, I'm watching paint dry. Mandatory Certification?

I was told by someone who attended a recent ICD-10 academy (for trainers) that the OIG is requiring all (current) coders to be certified by the October, 2013, ICD-10 implementation date.  I am aware of the OIG's compliance guidelines, but nowhere in that document do I find anything about mandatory certification. Mandatory Credentialing
Oct 16, 2012

I was thinking... mandatory CMT credentialing might not be a bad thing.  I'd have no problem passing that exam, but would the Indian MTs?  If CMT were a requirement for ANY MT transcribing/editing US-based medical dictation, I think we'd lose our Indian partners pretty quickly. If AHDI could ("would" is probably more appropriate) make this happen, I'd gleefully pay CMT dues and attend all the seminars, etc. ...
