Mandatory Meetings - DSG - Confused

How can a company order you to attend mandatory conference calls and mandatory HIPAA training and mandatory platform training sessions and not pay you for your time?  Every time they send an e-mail for something such as this, they refuse to pay, even for an hour of time.  They tell you these meetings and conference calls are a bonus for you, and that they are saving you money by you not having to pay for them someday (do I look like I just fell off of the turnip truck?).  They must think I am ignorant, but I am just biding my time.  There are many other problems as well where they want to nickle and dime me.  I would think a company would not squabble over an hour's pay, since it is for THEIR benefit.  After a year of this treatment, my positive attitude is gone and there is no love left after all of the lies and manipulation.  This is the first time I have had this attitude in all my years.  Someone will sue one of these days I guess.  I had an interview the other day where the first thing she said was "we pay for training, conference calls, and HIPAA compliance meetings," as well as overtime above a certain "very fair" line rate.  If I work holidays, which is voluntary, I will make a lot more money than standard pay.  I cannot believe how promising the company sounded - I walked around dumfounded for a couple of days.  It was like stepping back 5 years and being treated like an asset again.  Of course, I won't know for a month or so if it is as good as it looks, but so far I see nothing indicating anything negative.  I will be making the line rate I was making 5 years ago when I could afford to have this job.  I will once again want to sit down and work for a living, instead of working 12 hours a day and making less than minimum wage.  If this is as good as it sounds, I will come back on here in a month and post the company name, because every MT should have a job like this AGAIN.  She said MTs are underpaid and they would rather pay more for quality work.  Too good you say????  I am skeptical myself, but they seem sincere and I have seen it all in writing.  If it works out, I will let everyone know.  I am hopeful that these jobs will start popping up again.  When companies pay 5, 6, and 7 cpl, they surely start losing MTs who have made more in the past and find careers elsewhere.  Surely at some point people will pay for quality MTs again.  Will let you know how it goes.

Wishing you much luck with the new job. It's about time we MT's stop settling for the crumbs these nationals are throwing around.

I think eventually someone will report them regarding working (training or whatever) without being compensated and if they do get investigated the company will have to make restitution.

The thing that saddens me is when MT's come to this board and in one breath complain about rotten treatment, pay going down below minimum wage, unreasonable expectations and in the next breath they resolve to work better, try harder in order to meet these unreasonable expectations all the while hoping things will get better. It's like saying "kick me again, I like it."

DSG also does not pay for OT and tells you to make sure you don't record more than 80 hours on your time card.

It's all illegal, folks--the meetings without pay, working over 40 without reporting it, not paying you for HITECH training, the whole mess. And they will continue to get by with it until someone reports them to the DOL. If you're an employee, they have to pay! If you're an IC, they don't pay and they can't require. It's as simple as that.

Not yet, but I guess I need to. Remember when MQ was sued? The attorneys got rich and I got a stupid free class. Should have got paid for overtime and everything else. DSG must not be very legally advised, or they just do not care. I just can't get over their explanations of how they are providing free training so that I do not have to pay for it someday, so they are benefitting me by making it mandatory training at my own expense. They must think I am stupid. Funny because I JUST GOT PAID for my new HIPAA training that actually taught me something and was PAID for training 8 hours a day (a good wage). I feel like an employee once again who cares about my company because they are not nickle and diming me to death. Can't wait to let you all know how it works out - but want to wait a few weeks first to be sure (PTSD). Don't want to eat my words.

I heard through the grapevine that there are mandatory company meetings at DTS America today, but haven't gotten any email regarding this.  Is this bad for me not knowing or bad for the ones that do?  During a company buyout it is always fearful to get an email with a company meeting because, from what I have heard in the past, that is when you get the layoff.  Any info appreciated! ...

Is EMR Mandatory?

Perhaps I should know the answer but I do not.  What is the deal with the move to EMR?  Is it government mandated?  I just picked up a good side job transcribing for a cardiology group in my community and it's projected to last only until they go to EMR..the move isn't happening too quickly...are there penalties if they don't move to EMR?  Who is driving this? ...

Anybody enjoying the mandatory overtime.  Yea funny how we are on mandatory overtime and then get an email that states that if you run out of work, you are required to email them and flex your time and can only make it up after 5 p.m.  So again, you are required to check for your work throughout the day and if there is no work, sorry for your luck and if you want to be "lucky" enough to be employed w/ Nuance, you will then have to sign in and work on your off shift to make up your hour ...

Email received said basically,,,time sheet must be approved, make sure you have the required amount of time or PTO will be added to make up missing and you will need to re-approve it..I dont want to take PTO, I didnt run out of work, THEY DID..I put in my remedy ticket release without pay..How do they get away with that? ...

Just informed that I have to take MANDATORY HIPAA training without pay because I can take it "anytime on my OWN time!"  LOL!!!  The course is 45 minutes long!  It is not enough that we have to learn account specifics "on our own time", read the constant silly e-mails "on our own time", but now we have to do mandatory training "on our own time."  Oh, yeah - and we have to pass the class with a test at the end too!  I feel like I am in a volunteer job!   Hmmmm, I ...

Mandatory Weekends....why?

Why do MTSOs require weekend coverage for every one of their accounts? I have 2 and have work up the yin yang during the week but come Saturday, I'm watching paint dry. My MTSO requires 1 weekend day, at least 4 hours. I changed my weekend shift TWICE to work during the "busy" dictation times and I'm still NJA. Now that it's getting nicer outside, I've got plans and wanna have a life again. The higher ups get off every weekend, why can't we, or at least rotate? I do ...

In my state, they are required by law to pay.  I called the labor board to verify.  By law, they have to pay if you are a non-exempt employee.  I can't file a complaint until the training is completed, but I can do it online the same day as I complete the training.  They (labor board) also advised that I keep emails and attach them to the complaint.  Unfortunately, it could take up to a year to get the money - my state is sloooow in resolving issues. I am curious to know if all this overtime every week is mandatory or not.  MY AM asks for overtime on a daily basis and wants commitments for the week. I have been doing it, but am to the point where I just dont want to anymore, I have things in my life that I need to do or want to do instead of spending MY free time always working, working, working. I was told by someone who attended a recent ICD-10 academy (for trainers) that the OIG is requiring all (current) coders to be certified by the October, 2013, ICD-10 implementation date.  I am aware of the OIG's compliance guidelines, but nowhere in that document do I find anything about mandatory certification. Also, I am not sure if they meant certified in ICD-9 or 10, but it is my understanding that the last ICD-9 CCS/CCS-P exam will be given in March, 2013, and at this point nobod ...

I was thinking... mandatory CMT credentialing might not be a bad thing.  I'd have no problem passing that exam, but would the Indian MTs?  If CMT were a requirement for ANY MT transcribing/editing US-based medical dictation, I think we'd lose our Indian partners pretty quickly. If AHDI could ("would" is probably more appropriate) make this happen, I'd gleefully pay CMT dues and attend all the seminars, etc. ...

I interpret mandatory fields as being those in the upper area that says mandatory plus any fields listed in the CP as mandatory. I interpret the lower fields listed as optional ADT (Alt I) as optional unless stated in the CP as mandatory. There are some accounts having problems with physician names not printing out right and have to be re-researched and entered. These are shown as having a question mark before their name. But, 99% of these have been in the Alt I fields, i.e., optional fields ...
