Transportal is a company you do not want to work for. If you do, you will be sorry. I know you will get some unknown MT see your posts and say the opposite, but if you do a search, you will agree, this is not a good place to work. Reasons:
1. Low work and they will not tell you the truth about it either. They will string you along until you realize 6 months down the line that it is a pattern.
2. Low work--this needs repeating.
2. in-experienced managers/team leads who will not tell you the truth if your sick child's life depended on it.
3. Some people will get good accounts, but the majority who are not the favorites or know the owners, will get the shaft.
4. Run Forest Run.

They do play favorites. They won't tell you the truth about running out of work, which when I was there was almost daily, except on the weekends. Then they ding you and threaten you on the weekends because you haven't made your line count for the week. Eventually they will use that as an excuse to let you go.

Literally, during the week we would be told to stay off of the system until 1:00 p.m. to let the work build up and then everyone log on. It was a mad dash to try to get as many lines done before you ran out of work again, which was usually by 1:30. It was insanity. Then, they write you up because you haven't done your committed lines even though you were told that if work was low it wouldn't count against you...that was a bunch of bu!!c#@p.

I have worked at TransPortal for over two years and have only run out of work a few times around holidays. The dictators are great and I am left alone unless I need support. The line rate is fair and pay is always on time. To me, this is as good as it gets for an MT these days. I do, however, see the emails stressing for people to work their required shifts to meet TAT, so I can only assume that there may be overstaffing on some accounts due to underperformance by some of the MTs.

I didn't think 7 cpl was a "fair" rate at all for someone with experience. Luckily, I got a job elsewhere.

I think there is a huge difference with what your experience is with this company depending on what account you are on and who your supervisor is. I know some people never run out of work, but there are other accounts (like the one that I was on) that ran out daily. I was told that you couldn't work on different accounts that were under different supervisors (don't know why). I ran out of work almost daily for an entire year. Prior to that, I loved the company and yes there were some issues, but for the most part I was happy. Once J came on the scene (at least with the account that I was on) things went down hill fast.

Just got hired with them... and I'm on my last day of the first pay period... and let me tell you!!! If you get an offer... RUN!! It sounds good, but is far from it! Their sound files are horrible, they don't pay you any kind of training pay ( which I mistakenly MISSED on my part!! oops.. won't make that mistake again), and only give you LIMITED WORK while on QA review which amounts to like 200-300 lines a day!, and.... they have no account specifics whatsoever f ...

pay 8 cents a line? This is awfully low for an IC position isn't it? I mean, when you are IC don't you have to pay your own taxes and have no benefits at all? So in essence it's a lot less than 8 cents. Are they out of the their minds or is this how long IC jobs are paying now? Around 10 years ago when I considered an IC job it paid 13-15 cents a line to offset. ???? ...

i had a job interview with Transportal's recruiter this past week and one of the things she mentioned is the fact that they will require ICs to purchase Errors and Omissions insurance. She said that by February 2010 the government would be requiring all IC medical transcriptionists to have this coverage.
