Has Transportal been letting a lot of MTs go? - curious

Posted: Aug 02, 2010

I have heard that Transportal has been letting a lot of MTs go here lately.  Just curious if this is true or not.

Yup - Know of several

[ In Reply To ..]
Some straightforward, some with the passive/aggressive "we have no work" route.

I know of several also, but with deceit, such as - MTLynn

[ In Reply To ..]
putting people on other accounts that are bad or extremely difficult and telling them if they do not like it, they can go back to their original account, but when the time comes refuses to let them go back and thus firing them for not making line count on a horrible account and the list goes on. No big deal, people tried to warn everyone about Transportal about 2 years ago on this very board. You always had mysterious other MTs stating otherwise, now people are coming forward.

The exact same thing happened to me - curious

[ In Reply To ..]
a couple of months ago. Exactly what you described. Running out of work on ER acct, switched to an acct that is impossible to make lines on, told that I couldn't go back to original acct, and then let go for not making line counts.
Transportal has poor management - Former TP Employee
[ In Reply To ..]
Transportal has a very poor management staff, one who likes to take pain killers and work on the job for a prime example.

As a former Team Lead I left because I couldn't tolerate the upper management staff. I was actually called because I walked away from my desk for a lunch one day, something that I never did so yeah it was a bit unexpected but certainly not illegal! LOL

My advice is that it hasn't gotten any better yet and I would avoid the place at all costs, unless you like to make excuses to get up and go to the potty or grab something to eat.
They are all hat and no cattle... - anon

They are letting MTs go by putting them on bad accounts, running out of work, and now have an ad on another site hiring MTs! How cruddy this place is to work for! Glad I left them!
Similar thing happened to me, but they wanted - MTnikki
[ In Reply To ..]
me to stay on permanent QA and produce 1200 lines per day. If my work was so bad, then why would you want me to produce 1200 lines a day? I was put on a horrible account after being moved from my previous account also. I was put on a horrible account and there was no way line count was going to be made. I was told that I had to do 1200 lines within a month because I was an experienced MT,but my work was to be QA'd while I produced 1200 lines per day for them. HA-HA, no way, I quit, and guess what, my work is so bad that I have had 6 job offers since then with only being on Qa for no longer than 3 days. This place is a racket and they should be ashamed of themselves. Once again may I say, if my work was so bad, why did you transfer me to a new account and try to make me produce 1200 lines a day within a month, but try to keep me on full QA. I smelled a fish,a rotten egg, and foul-smelling crap and moved on.
Is there anyone happy with Transportal? - wondering
[ In Reply To ..]
It sounds like they are extremely busy from the ad posted.
Look, MTs on this board are only giving you their - Snookie

experience at this company. I imagine their are some happy MTs at this company, but when the work runs low or similar problems arise, do not be surprised. So in other words, if your number comes up short, don't be caught with your pants down.
but that could happen anywhere - wondering
[ In Reply To ..]
All companies have low volume at some point - if that is the only beef then it seems insignificant because it's across the board everywhere.
Not insignficant at all to be treated less than dirt - MTnikki
[ In Reply To ..]
to have low work volumes is common with some companies, but to deliberately fire MTs for not making line count when the work is low is not fair. Also, there are other problems there. Just a note to you, I have been at my new job for over 7 months now and guess what, swamped with work and always busy. So, it is not the norm to be low on work. Go ahead and take the job and then come back and sing your song.
Happy with TransPortal - TP IC
[ In Reply To ..]
I am happy with TransPortal. I very rarely run low on work and can easily exceed 1200 lines daily if I wish. My only beef is fellow MTs who day in and day out do not meet their line counts which can lead to overstaffing of accounts.
TP IC--that is ridiculous that your beef is with - MTnikki
[ In Reply To ..]
fellow MTs that do not meet line count and thus they have to overhire. That is crap because as you have read on this board, if you do not meet line count with or without work, you get fired? So, if you do not meet line count, you are fired and thus another MT is brought in who can--so why does that affect you and you are an IC?--Everyone a hat/suit is on this board.
Not ridiculous - TP IC
[ In Reply To ..]
I do not believe it is ridiculous that my beef is with other MTs. I would not have to waste my time reading some of the emails I get if people would just do their jobs rather than take advantage of those of us that do show up day in and day out. It affects me as well as my family when I end up working extra that I should not have to when others do not step up to the plate. It affects me when I could be working on ways to make myself more productive rather than doing extra work that once again others should have done.
then maybe your beef should be with mgmt - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
because there are plenty of us who daily received no jobs available messages for I know at least 8 months. So, how do you meet line counts and be productive on a daily basis if there is no work for you to do? How do you explain that some people had work and others didn't? Were they withholding work from some of us for personal reasons? I always had very high QA scores of 99.3% on average. I showed up on the weekends, even though I wasn't scheduled for them, just to try to make money. I also used to receive the messages that people hadn't shown up, but that was only on the weekends. There were no jobs during the week.
to have periods of no work is normal - but for almost a year
[ In Reply To ..]
is the extreme. Literally, this lasted for almost a year on the acct that I was on, which was the ER acct. Then, for them to be on the MT because they didn't meet line counts is ridiculous. I am not kidding when I say daily I was getting the no jobs available message, except on weekends. BUT, I was told that I was the only one who was having problems meeting line counts. I knew it was a bunch of crap, but what can you do?
TransPortal - Tired Hands
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, they have overhired and cut my work load down over half & when I protested they fired me, even though I had last QA at 98.4 with no major errors. Lots of MTs leaving. So BEWARE!!!! No future here.

New to Transportal and run out of work frequently, but - trying to do above 1200 lines a day

[ In Reply To ..]
Never had a problem with not getting the required line count due to no work.

how many hours a day does it take you to do - the 1200 lines or more

[ In Reply To ..]
if you run out of work frequently. I have small kids and can't sit there and babysit a computer all day to try to make my lines. That was the problem. They knew the times I was available to work and the work was never there during those times and it would go on all day long, no jobs available.

Or they used to send out emails telling everyone to stay off of the system until 1:00 and let the work build up. Everyone got on at 1:00 and literally by 1:30 all of the jobs were done. It would be a frenzy to try to get as much knocked out as you could before the work was gone. It was ridiculous!!!!!

Also, the other part of that is if you have to sit at your computer for 10 hours to get 1200 lines a day, then you aren't making crap per hour.

You might possibly be on a different acct than I was and if so and this is your experience, then I am glad for you. But that was my experience and it sucked!!!

or being told - TP-wasbeen

[ In Reply To ..]
that because the manager "J" was willing to dose up and work 5 minutes after surgery that because you had a seriously sick kid it didn't matter, afterall, SHE was working. Or letting her know you are available xx hours and suddenly at the end of those hours, you've got loads of work with a note that she doesn't care there wasn't work all day, you better get this work done before morning.

The blatant disregard for MTs as people, especially for this manager (cause this was my experience), was horrible. A friend of mine referred them to me because she'd been there for a few years and really liked it, then within the last year, it's like they blew up and what's left is not a pretty picture.
I worked for "L" and we were out of work - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
all of the time. You are right, it was within the last year that things blew up and got bad. I think it was because of "J.J." who came on board over the supervisors. That was when I really started noticing a change and it wasn't a pretty picture.

Literally we would be told to get off of the system until 1:00 and then it was a feeding frenzy. By 1:30 the work was gone again, but they were on me for not making line count....really? It was a joke.

You know I worked on ExText and it was a great VR platform. I could do about 400 lines/hour when there was work. It should have only taken me about 3-4 hours to do my work. I wasn't able to sit there for 10 hours a day fighting for work with little kids under foot. We do have lives you know.
I am so sorry, didn't mean to upset anyone, sm - trying to do above 1200 lines a day
[ In Reply To ..]
I usually work 8 hours a day. As stated in my previous note, I am new with this company. I have definitely not had the issues you have had. The only issue I have is not having a secondary account.
are you doing VR or straight typing? - curious
[ In Reply To ..]
Is it taking you 8 hours on voice rec or straight typing to get 1200 lines/day? That would make a big difference. If it is VR then you aren't making minimum wage even. That was the point I was making...I did VR and I'm not going to sit at a computer for 8-10 hours a day to make a line count that if the work was there, it would only take me 3-4 hours to do.

That is the other problem with them. They won't give you a secondary acct. They did give me a secondary for a very short while, but it was with 2 different supervisors and I wasn't allowed to tell the other supervisor that I was doing the other acct for the other supervisor. It was a mess. It put me in a bad situation a couple of times with my supervisor who didn't know I was doing both accounts.

I hope you do have good luck with them. I used to really enjoy my job with them the first year, but after that it went downhill fast!

TransPortal Lines - Tired Hands

[ In Reply To ..]
No way I could begin to get line count after the first of the year. They put me in a queue with 4 other people to do only 5 doctors. I was lucky sometimes to get 200 lines a day! They have overhired and the incredible thing is they are still hiring. Stay away!!!

FYI...Loving Transportal over here!!! - PA MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Just to let you know, I have been with Transportal since October and I absolutely love them. I have NEVER run out of work, never had a problem with my supervisor, QA, or management, and pay is always accurate and on time. I recently had a family situation where full-time was becoming a burden to me, so they let me switch to part-time and still keep my employee status!!

Couldn't ask for a better company to work for!

No, they have not. Its 100% untrue. They are trying to hire something like 50 more MTs for new accounts coming aboard.

Stop Letting These Companies Advertise Their "jobs" Here....sm
Apr 17, 2011

8 cpl is what I started at 6 or 7 years ago, I'm still seeing this number and of course much lower. How are companies getting away with this nonsense of not paying for spaces, paying 5 cpl, etc. In my opinion 8 cpl + typing for large teaching hospitals with 18 pages of specifications = really low pay. The one way I can think to put an end to these companies and their crappy pay, besides no one taking these jobs, is to stop letting them advertise on MT stars and other MT boards unless they ...

Just got hired with them... and I'm on my last day of the first pay period... and let me tell you!!!   If you get an offer... RUN!!
